Hello! /o/ I've just recently got into Hetalia about three to four days ago, but it's been invading my head constantly. It really doesn't help that I have world history (west and the world, yay) and we'll be learning about Europe + Russia. I had to fight to keep this stupid grin off my face in class when my teacher mentioned the countries we'd be learning about since my head was all "IVAAAAAAAN KEKEKE YES" 8D;; A-and I know that this is kind of bad for a first post, but I have a few questions regarding two of the countries and characters, colonial!Canada (or just Canada in general) and Latvia.

Regarding Canada/Matthew, I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about (or take a guess at, whichever works!) his personality. I've just looked the pictures of some of the strips involving Matty, and I've assumed that (I-I can't think in sentences at the moment, I apologize):

- he's prone to being panicky/uneasy overall
- he's easily forgotten by Kuma-chan too, no less & not very recognized
- speaking of Kuma-chan, he seems to be able to talk D8? or at least to Matthew.
- Al seems to have taken no interest in him when they first met why does no one love Matthew ;_;
- he seems to want to be recognized more and get along with everyone :'D
- according to the little profile, Matty's said to be "optimistic, kind and honest"

There was also this phailure of a translation that said "from European countries 'becoming the grandfather when, label of the country which lives' is pasted" .. if anyone wants to try to figure out what that means.

I've lived in Canada for about half of my life I'm still a citizen of Korea, though 8D, so I've learned about Canada in its colonial days and I'm a maaaajor history obsessed freak, I'm planning to go into history in uni 8D 8D 8D 8D and hetalia is certainly helping. But I can only guess that as a character, colonial!Matty would be attached to Arthur, a little ignored/outshadowed by Al, and I don't really know what with Francis -- the problem is that I don't exactly know how to take older!Matty's personality and transfer it to colonial!Matty. Would he be more of a crybaby? D8 When he's scared, would he run to Arthur and/or Al? And what he'd call Arthur, Al and Francis, for that matter. D8 S-SOMEONE THROW ME SOME IDEAS, PLEASE. ;_; ... And if you've possibly, maybe guessed that I might be looking for this info for a certain.. dressing room, you may or may not be right. gasp.

As for Latvia (Raivis, if I remember correctly!), I'd be extremely happy to know anything about him, since I can't find much information on him anywhere aside from the translated profile of him! D8 I've heard that he has a bit of a dark side to him, and I was wondering about that and what would trigger it (and why he has it). He's so cute, though, I want to just pinch his cheeks or something butI'dprobablygetkilledbyIvanorsomethingsoI'llpassfornow.

I think there's a ton of Canadians on here....

It makes me so sad that he's been cut out of the World War stuffs.... (overshadowed by UK and US... T_T But he played some important roles too! Just because he's not a nuclear power doesn't make him useless in the least~! T_T)

...the idea of Matthew running to Francis scares me a bit. XD (...and suddenly I imagine Francis sending chibi!Matt a bunch of pretty girls....... (filles de rois anyone? XD) that's not what I meant by scared!!!!)

I have to agree with you on that one, Canadians did pretty darn important things in WW battles D:! I mean, that's why the Netherlands sends us tulips every year, right?! And we won a lot of battles, too.. Canada needs more recognition. Dx

Technically, we were a dominion of the UK still, but we were also our own nation, and joined the war separately from them... and the battle that was the "coming of age" for Canada was during WWII, was it not?

Ah, Canadians helped liberate the Netherlands during WWII, so when the soldiers were walking through the streets, they threw tulips and things at them i-in a good way, of course. And they've been sending us tulips every year sometime in the spring, I think. XD

As for matt.. Honestly i have been into hetalia for half year (yet my fangirlizm took over when i found this place which is not long ago XD) But like week ago i realised there IS canada character there Dx
so yeah he definately needs more love XD
I think photobucket has sum photos of him (the coal mine of illegal FANARTZ! )also you might be able to figure things out by this.
I often see him paired up with US (while arthur is jelous lololol sucks to be u ARthur!) and they KINDA look like "brothers" to me. I mean they are VERY alike D:

My opinion is really influenced by being English, but the impression that I get from the few strips that I've seen him in he seemed to run to Arthur and seemed kind of kicked-in-the-balls when Arthur got him confused with Al (LOL. Bad!daddy)
Also there's that strip of him as baby!Canada walking side-by-side with England.
Up until the Suez crisis too, Canada has always firmly supported the UK's foreign policy. Their blind dedication (which was appreciated by the way ;--; ♥) kind of waned a bit by WWII, but as you know, Canada still came in to back up the UK once again and gave us aid.
Since Hetalia is drawn by a history nerd, I'm sure that he knows all of this, so I'd imagine that Matt will be a lot more supportive, and dedicated towards England than America is.

As for Francis, I'm sure that he has some sort of love towards him too, since a part of him (namely Quebec) firmly sees France as his daddy. I guess maybe he's a bit like a child of a divorce, and spends time with both parents, though England effectively got custody of him, so he leans more towards him.


I'm sure someone would disagree of course. Like I said, I'm English, and we have a huge love-affair with Canadians. I just think that that makes the most sense if you look into history.

XDD I think so too, but if Arthur mistakes him for Al, I'm guessing that's more of a one sided dedication? XDDD But I hope not, because I'm sure Matty really likes Arthur :'D Or rather.. daddy/older brother, whichever he's referred to in Hetalia. XD

Don't worry! I'm not sure if the author knows it, but the English love Canadians. We feel close to them, so I hope that can be reflected in Hetalia.
Because realistically the situation is like; we look at America as a wayward child- we love it, but we kind of wish that it wouldn't act like such a prat so much; whereas Canada is like the one we respect a hell of a lot.
I'm not speaking for all English, but that's definitely the environment that I've grown up with.

Arthur's a bad father, but at least he can blame it on old age. LOL.

Because, I mean, we did it right with Canada. After all the wars with France and everyone, we let Canada go bit by bit until they were ready to stand on their own, and look how much they've succeeded. Canada didn't shout the odds and strike it out alone when it was far too young and inexperienced, like some children I could mention. >:[

XDDD Canada respects England hell of a lot, too! /o/ I was hoping they'd be more daddy-child-like in Hetalia, but with some of those strips I've seen so far, they seem to be more comical than anything else.. XDD

We don't mind Americans generally/most of the time, but some of the Americans think of Canada as their 51st state 8D;;; There was this talk show in Korea when I was there and one girl who's from the US said that she thought Canada was the 51st state, too. LOL

LOL That's true, Arthur's really old by now.. But at least he doesn't look as old as Francis. *gets shot*

oh god, having taking more Canadian history than I probably should be allowed to (and I'm a science major, WTH?) I totally agree with you about the whole reading history as Hetalia characters now.

I also imagine these little attacks of consciousness that Canada has about who he REALLY is that have to be sorted out, whether by Britain (Lord Elgin and responsible government) or France (Charles De Gaulle, what?) and yet still manages to be friendly to both.

Also, I always imagine him doing these little things to piss of America (without being dickish about it) like becoming friends with Cuba, Russia, and China, and not turning on his defense system when he was supposed to, and not automatically joining Al in everything he does and so forth. (He's just being friendly that's all.)

HAHA, you cannot deny the luuure of history, that's all! I'm more of an ancient civilizations freak I admit that I want to go into archaeology, but history is fine too but I still love Canadian history more than I should.

That's really true D:! Since France and Britain both fought over him, I guess he feels like he's a bit of both countries but since Britain has custody of him and France's out of the picture of raising him.. IDENTITY CRISIS ZOMGZ. *shot* But because of Quebec-kun, we have to love both Britain and France like you said 8D!

XDDD Just being 'slow' to follow Al and things, I suppose, and being reluctant sometimes when Al tries to push him into his little devious schemes plans and things like that? Since Matty's kinda naive so he won't be doing that much in purpose but I suppose he'll just piss off Al without realizing it 8D?
