a note: if you are not a fan of the dub or do not watch the dubs because of any reason or preference, please do not comment and bash the voice actors, translations, whathaveyou. it's perfectly fine for not everyone to like the dub, but if you don't like it, simply ignore this discussion. the dub isn't doing you any harm if you don't watch it, so please please do not do any harm to it or those who do watch it.

I have not stated any spoilers for the plot of the movie in this post, but seeing as discussion of the movie could very easily delve into specific points in the plot, be aware for potential spoilers in the comments!

I was at animeUSA over the weekend and managed to snag the special edition of the movie early (and only for $24!). for anyone who has seen it also (since it does come out in stores today), what are your thoughts? was it what you expected, even better, or did it fall flat in some spots? 

I'll kick things off by saying I thought it was a wonderful dub; for the segments that were pulled from the seasons, it sounds as if they kept the original voice-work the actors did at the time. if you listen to the difference, you can tell that all of the actors have settled into their roles amazingly well, getting really comfortable with the characters and enjoying them. I absolutely adore iceland's voice; it's not really how I imagined him sounding before, but I like the voice they gave him even better than what I had thought of myself. the historical notes feature is great, explaining in scene order all the history packed into the movie, and watching the outtakes will be the best decision you've ever made. TRUST ME, they are awesome. I watched them at least three or four times the first time I watched through the movie.

the only problem I had with the dub is that sometimes the characters' accents make their words hard to understand, and the english subtitles for the movie are only translations of the japanese, not transcriptions of what the dub actors are saying. italy seems to be the biggest offender in this category with his half-yell habit of talking, but I had to rewind prussia's bit once or twice to catch all of his stuff too. all in all, I thought it was super awesome and have watched it twice already, with many more times to come!

on a final note, why is the world ondo song so damn catchy?

I got the first copy from my local Best Buy (and it was the limited edition!! \o/)~!

I love this movie!!! :D I wasn't the only one to hear the Star Trek referance during the Pict video, was I~?

My only problem with the Outtakes is that there weren't enough XD Eric/America saying that he sounded like a hooker was hilarious!

I loved every minute of it. I think the commentary may have out-shined the actual movie in my opinion, but that's because it had more Ian Sinclair (and that doesn't mean it has to be a bad thing). I love that man with a passion.

Also, Tatum talking about Doctor Who and Harry Potter. and Prussia's VA is the perfect human being.

I think they all should have sang the ending song. Just sayin'...

I absolutely LOVED it. The pop culture references (Dr. Who, Michael Bay, STAR FUCKING TREK) had me rolling around in my chair in giggle fits!

The only problem I had was a micro one in retrospect, and that's that Russia's kolkolkol is always... something else. *sobbu* Though having China say "SUCK BALL!" instead of "Aiya!" WAS pretty funny!

I got it in the mail today and since I stayed home to take care of my kid, who has the flu, we watched it immediately. Not having seen it before, I really wasn't expecting the bits from the show, but it was OK. I loved America's Vegas thing and the computer saying, regarding England and France: "...they love each other. Sexually." Even though I ship USUK, I couldn't stop laughing. My daughter thought the Baltics' ballet was too short. She loved the ending song.

I... was not impressed. The clips from the show felt gratuitous, like they were just padding the length, and I've had dreams that made more sense than this movie. I was looking forward to something with a little more plot than we usually get in the mega-short episodes of the series, and didn't get it.

We also didn't get the sweaty workout session the back cover suggested. ;_;

Maybe I just set my sights too high; hopefully a rewatch will bump up my opinion.

I got mine I believe around the beginning of November from Rightstuf. My favorite line was Prussia's line about Belarus and Ukraine " WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE, THE WHITE STRIPES?!" And yes, Eric's outtake asking if he was a hooker was awesome.

I feel torn about the dub. On the one hand I like the actual voice actors themselves and felt they were wonderfully cast. On the other hand when I watched the series I really disliked some of the script changes and that it felt like characterization was different from the dub and the original. So I do feel some trepidation about the dub when I get my copy. I will watch it at least once of course. But when it comes to the Hetalia dub the changes I like I really like and the changes I dislike I really hate.

I absolutely loved the dub version! <333 And I love FUNi for putting FrUK out there even more than the original did! <3333 (Those who've already watched it know what I'm talking about~ XD) My only complaint is that they used the theatrical version of the movie, rather than the actual movie without the extra scenes, but it's just a small complaint. ^^;; (And the outtakes. Oh god, the outtakes. XDDDDDD)

I would assume so; the idea of the limited edition was the green bandana that came with it, but the special features should be standard on all copies of the movie.
