So...

I'm just wondering. Am I the only one who's a little miffed that the other Germanics have gotten a Nyotalia form and Switzerland has yet to get one? I mean, I figured that when Liechtenstein got a Nyotalia form that Switzerland's surely wouldn't be far behind. But that wasn't the case.

Eh, Himaruya will do things when he wants to. He's under no obligation whatsoever to give us new strips, holiday updates, sketches, new characters, new Nyotalia characters, etc. He'll draw a fem!Switzerland when he feels like it. I do want to see a fem!Swiss, but I can wait.

Well, there's a lot of character's I'd like to see Nyotalia-fied (e.g. Latvia, Estonia), but it's just a matter of beign patient and waiting.

He does have a life outside of Hetalia and, you know, a family.I just hope he doesn't get burnt out on this eventually.

Well, Himaruya just picked up Chibisan-date again and I think he also has a life outside his work.
I'd love to see Nyotalia's Poland, Lithuania, Cuba... but I think we can't make him work. We are in no position to do this.

(btw., male!Liechtenstein has been made back when his first Nyotalia set was out. Long before fem!Austria or fem!Prussia. You know, an artists mind doesn't always work like "omg I have to draw this because I have to complete this set" but more like "I'd love to draw this or that now". That's when their heart is in their drawings.)

I know what you mean, but it's his series. It's not a fandom that you can judge, it's just that he has more fun drawing them.

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Um, what? He hasn't "abandoned" any of those characters. Macau only just got designed and put in volume four. Another volume hasn't even been announced yet. He hasn't drawn Macau since then, yes, but...so? He has a massive cast to deal with here. New Zealand, Wy, Monaco, etc will get their turns again. Monaco's gotten a few strips, as has Wy. New Zealand's gotten recent sketches and a few strips. But he has so many characters to balance here. Yes, the series has a main cast. That's just...how this works. Sometimes he'll design a character and set them aside for a while before coming back to them. Remember how long Vietnam and Taiwan just sat there before finally appearing in a strip in volume 4? That obviously didn't mean Taiwan and Vietnam were "abandoned" all that time, just that he was only now ready to do something with them.

Also lmao he gives other characters besides Axis/Allies/Prussia/Spain/Romano/Nordics attention. Have you not noticed how often he draws Hungary, for instance? Austria, too. We got some bursts of Liechtenstein on occasion. Estonia's been getting a lot lately. The list goes on and on.

And uh, re; the 2P designs, ....he just wanted to draw those? He doesn't have to draw extras on his blog like that, so personally I think it's a bit rude to complain because you'd rather have a different character. He doesn't draw any of the Nyotalia characters that often.

Look, I get it, you like Switzerland and wish he got drawn more often, had a Nyotalia design, etc. But Himaruya isn't obligated to do it, he doesn't have to put anything on his blog, not even updates with his main cast, etc. This complaint is really pretty entitled and rude IMO.

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You're angry that Himaruya isn't doing exactly what you want with his comic. I consider that rude and entitled.

Of course Romania got more attention than Macau. Fans have been curious about Romania for over two years now; he was mentioned in Hungary's very first bio, and people have wanted to know more about him ever since. Obviously that's going to earn him more attention than Macau, who was a total surprise that came out of nowhere, and doesn't represent a particularly well-known nation. Himaruya's drawn Romania a few times since volume 4 and not Macau, yeah, but it's way too early to say he's "abandoned" him. Himaruya hasn't "abandoned" anyone, he just draws his characters when he feels like it, because it's his comic.

Yes, the characters that the fans are attracted to often get more attention than the ones that go by the wayside, but there's a reason for that which IMO is perfectly valid; he wants to make his fans happy. He intros a new character like Romania that we've been curious about for years, the fanbase explodes, and he draws some more Romania for us because we like him. This isn't some malicious attack on Macau, who didn't get as much notice. He'll draw more with Macau later. Cameroon was in a similar situation up against Netherlands, after all (right down to people having been curious about him already because of that strip where he was a shadow), and he finally got his debut in Christmas 2010. Himaruya's working with a massive cast, here, so it makes sense that he'd want to make his fans happy by giving the minor characters that people like more attention first, I don't get why you're taking it as malicious.

They didn't "need" 2P designs. Himaruya did it because he wanted to. Which is his right, since it's his damn comic. He probably liked the idea of 2P designs like in fighting games in general and wanted to play with the concept. Yeah, sure, he could've designed other characters instead, but he wanted to draw nice, full color 2P chibis in his free time to share with his fans instead, so he did. He could've easily spent that time on something entirely for himself. He doesn't get paid for things like that. He does it because he cares about his fanbase. So it really rubs me the wrong way when people throw a tantrum over Himaruya doing something for the fans because it's not exactly what they want.

Uhm. All of the recent mochi strips? Most of those also feature Estonia pretty heavily. He was a total badass in Christmas 2010, too. Himaruya's done some Estonia sketches recently. He's gotten a ton of new canon in the past year. And on what planet is Hungary popular? For a female character she's relatively well-liked in that more people are alright with her than vehemently hate her, but I wouldn't call her popular.

Just. You're whining because Himaruya's things that he does in his spare time for his fans that he's not earning a cent for aren't what you want to see, so you're ~miffed~ by it. That's incredibly obnoxious. I'm not offended, but I'm annoyed by your entitlement. He doesn't have to give you jack shit, let alone a fem!Switzerland. Get over it.

Don't act like such a bitch. She wasn't raging about how 'WHY DOESN'T HIMA DO WHAT I WANT!!!1!!11!', she simply said 'anybody else kinda wish he would draw other stuff like [example]?'.
Personally, I think Himaruya could stand to do something with the other thirty characters he just designed for kicks. They could be every bit as interesting as the ones made earlier. I ain't telling him how to write or draw, but he sure does seem to take a lot of request from fans during 'events' and the like... Isn't that telling him what to do? Do you condemn those, or is it just because this is a request a lot of people don't care about?

I'm annoyed by the fact that you're just shitting on her rational question on opinion by insisting her wish for one little thing that she's been anticipating and hasn't happened yet is 'entitled' and 'rude'. She did not carry a 'whiny' tone in the least.

You, however, are being such a staunch defender I wonder if you fall in to the line of people who nearly worship the creators or comics or media.

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2011-09-15 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"She did not carry a 'whiny' tone in the least."

She said she was "miffed" that the creator of the series hasn't done exactly what she wants yet, and worded her statement like he was somehow obligated to "complete the set" of nyo!Germanics. Preeeeeetty whiny imo.

"You, however, are being such a staunch defender I wonder if you fall in to the line of people who nearly worship the creators or comics or media."

No, I'm simply appalled with the way this fandom as a whole treats Himaruya. No, he's not perfect, and no creator of a work of fiction is. However, they are still the creators of the series that you love so much. Your series wouldn't exist for you to enjoy without them. So the way people call Himaruya stupid, throw tantrums when he doesn't update with what they want to see/update fast enough/etc is really entitled, bratty, and gross. Then when anyone points out how absurd this is, we get accused of "worshiping" creators? Respect =/= worship, and these people do deserve respect. Creators often don't get the respect they deserve, but the Hetalia fandom is by far the worst I've ever seen about it.

[identity profile] roderich amadeus edelstein (from livejournal.com) 2011-09-15 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And suddenly 'A small argument or small feeling of offence' translates to 'Preeeeeetty whiny'. I don't think so. She was not insisting it was an 'obligation' anywhere at all. It is a logical conclusion to want a genderbend of Switzerland to fill it out, as Switzerland is a German-speaking country. She wasn't frothing at the bloody mouth, she was using a community used to express opinions to -- Whoa, express her opinion!

And you bring up the people who have temper tantrums so easily to compare, because, of course, for her to WANT ANYTHING for the creator to make is a GRIEVOUS OFFENCE in your world, is it not?
To be perfectly frank, you haven't seen Homestuck fandom, or possibly a few others. They waffle between 'Hussie is perfect!!!111!1!' to treating him like utter shit.
I believe creators can warrant respect. However, that is up for them to prove, not their fans to do so.
There are some people who worship the creators of media, and nearly everyone knows this to be true. Respecting them does not mean you worship them, but jumping on her perfectly reasonable query like that isn't what a reasonable person does.
Come on, there are more insane fans out there for you to jump on instead of a girl who simply seems to want a little thing a great deal and was wondering if others felt the same.

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I do. There's a big difference between "gee, I really like Switzerland and I think it'd be cool if we got a fem!Switzerland design soon. After all, we have genderbends for most of the other Germans, so why not finish it out?" and "I'm ~miffed~ that Himaruya hasn't made a fem!Switzerland yet because OMG all the other Germans have genderbends so why doesn't Switzerland?" Sure, OP could've been more obnoxious, but OP is still being obnoxious. And whiny and entitled.

Wanting something is fine. I have plenty of things that I want Himaruya to do sometime myself, which includes--gasp!--a fem!Switzerland. But I know he doesn't have to, and that's okay with me, because ultimately it's his comic to do what he wants with, and I'm a fan of his comic because I like what he's done with it so far. Being upset with him for not making the new characters I want, drawing specific interactions, events, etc that I want to see, and such would just be asinine. Himaruya isn't tailoring Hetalia specifically for my wants.

Yes, there are other fandoms where the creators are treated like shit. I didn't say there weren't. For example, the Kuroshitsuji manga-ka got bashed left and right for having the nerve to condemn scanlations. But what I have personally seen of the Hetalia fandom's behavior towards Himaruya is the worst I personally have seen, and I've been in quite a few fandoms.

No. The creators don't have to "earn" respect, that's bullshit. If you are enjoying their work, then they have provided you with something you enjoy, and without them you wouldn't have it. They don't owe you jack shit. It's one thing to get upset if a series' writing starts seriously going downhill, but that is very different from "bawww why haven't you drawn this yet, I want this".

I do not consider it reasonable to be angry with a creator for not drawing exactly what you want. I do not consider it reasonable, either, to complain about drawings that he's done on his own time to please his fans (see; the 2P Nyotalia) because you would've rather had him draw something else. OP is being whiny and entitled. I find that behavior in this fandom annoying.

You're acting like I told her that she was a horrible sinner who was destined for Hell or something. No, I just think she needs to think about this and realize that it's absurd to get angry with Himaruya for something like this =/.

Meh. My favorite characters don't appear all the time, but I don't get upset about it. It's Himaruya's series. Be glad he bothers with the series at all? Especially now that he'll be working on APH and resuming Chibi-san Date in Comic Birz and Comic Spica respectively.
Getting upset over it seems like a waste of energy.

[identity profile] realityhelix.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Given that Nyo!Liechtensein looks pretty much exactly like Switzerland, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if you look at a picture of Liech in her military outfit, you are basically looking at a picture of Nyo! Switzerland.

[identity profile] esmereina.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Granted this isn't exactly Nyo!Switzerland, but wouldn't the Switzerland that Japan imagined in his mind in that comic strip be a good example of what Nyo!Switzerland might look like?

I cosplay that Switzerland all the time. I even re-made the dress when the comic was put into the anime in the Hetalia world series. This is probably the reason why I am not upset about not having a Nyo!Switzerland. And this is probably the reason why Himaruya hasn't thought to do it yet.
