But seriously I'm addicted to those chips.... At 1st my friend and I were reluctant to try them though hahaha

[identity profile] aduial-peredhel.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I get a 404 error message. Makes me sad. I wanna see Austria. ;A;

They are probably sweet potatoes. I've seen sweet potatoes come in a variety of colors including the typical orange, yellow, red, and purple.

...*pokes blue potatoes* Looks strange yet appetizing.

And heh, seems like Autria and Switzerland's relationship is still awkward.

YOU EAT BLUE POTATO CHIPS, HIMRAUYA?!

No wonder you're insane.

But we love you for that. ♥

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, you guys have never seen or heard of blue potatoes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adirondack_Blue_potato)?

P.S., THEY'RE DELICIOUS

P.P.S., I can't see the first image so I have no idea what's going on. ;A; But now I could really go for some chips.

[identity profile] island-of-myst.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh those blue potatoes o.o (They always looked more purple to me ^^")

[identity profile] lalaluciie.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
jetBlue airways? Is he going somewhere, or did he get that napkin for free with the blue potato chips?

[identity profile] lalaluciie.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Edit: I mean I know they don't go as far as Japan (I'm pretty sure they don't) but still.

Looks like a belated Swiss Foundation Day sketch, with some discussion of the William Tell legend (specifically, the bit about Gessler's hat) and Switzerland's military history. ^_^

They sell those blue potato crisps here in the states. :D. They're tasty but incredibly healthy. They also come in purple, red, and yellow and red stripes....0_0. They use beets, blueberries and other natural products to color them. You can buy them at a Whole Foods Store.

[identity profile] nuitfroide.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Himaruya is asking why they're blue, yet it clearly say that it's all natural blue potatoes. That is not a fair accusation.

And yay! Switzerland and Austria!

[identity profile] dragonsigma.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I see those types of chips in the stores where I am. I think the more important thing is that's clearly a snack-sized bag from JetBlue, and a JetBlue napkin. That's the sort of stuff you can only get on an airplane.

Hima, where are you going?

[identity profile] lalaluciie.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed that too. If he did/was/is traveling somewhere, he could've gone from the AmericanAirlines in/near Tokyo then transferred to a JetBlue plane or something. /probably over thinking this

I have never seen blue potatoes before where I live. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough?

Yay Austria. :D

[identity profile] fullxmetalxgir.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I grew up with that kind of sweet potato, and was pretty freaked out when I found out they came in orange.

[identity profile] ohmypizza.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Smae here. When I found out that sweet potatoes came in othe colors, I was like "WTF is this, sweet potatoes are purple!". I don't think that those are blue. They look purple. I don't even think that there is any naturally blue food.

[identity profile] lethal-bonbon.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)

Those blue potato Terra Chips (http://www.terrachips.com/our-chips/exotic-potato-chips/72822967901) are very good. You can find them sometimes at your supermarket, or Whole Foods may have them.

August 1st, Swiss National Day

I'm a just a little really late for Switzerland's national founding day.

Gessler, the evil Hapsburg bailiff* who wasthe villain in the story of Swiss hero William Tell, telling everyone to bow before his hat was kind of cute.

[Note: A bailiff was sort of like a governor.]

Switzerland was recklessly vigorous until he lost to France, wasn't he?
It's great that he was able to continue to protect his country after that by earning foreign money as a mercenary and taking a position of armed neutrality and such.

I plan to update the replies and volume 4 extras a little today.

Thank you for your thoughts on, "That and America's Volume, This is the Center of the World!"
I'll be most happy if you enjoy the columns and manga!
America is a mysterious and interesting country!

And on another note, I am really, really hungry now.

Mmmmmm, blue potato chips... my favorite! (nom nom nom)

Jet Blue does not fly to Japan as far as I know, but their main hub is in New York. So he could be in NYC right now.

[identity profile] seabirdicat.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to add my 2 cents and clear up any misunderstanding, the blue (purple really) potatoes are not the same as the purple yams. I've only ever had the purple yams in Hawaii but one can find the purple potatoes here in Wash state at farmers markets or co-ops or fruit stands while they are in season if you are lucky.

So I just wanted to point out that there are both purple yams and purple potatoes. ^^ And the purple yams are much more intensely purple than the potatoes (though the potatoes are still pretty purple..)

[identity profile] ohmypizza.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
That might explain why I grew up with them. Now that I thought about it, I've never seen those on the Mainland. Are the purple potatoes savory, or sweet like sweet potatoes? To be honest, when I saw that picture, I thought that they were sweet potato chips because of the color and the shape.

[identity profile] seabirdicat.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the purple potatoes just taste like normal potatoes. Purple potatoes have been around for ages, long before Europe got ahold of them. It's kind of funny because mashed potatoes made out of them are very grey and unappetizing looking (but taste just fine of course).

[identity profile] fma029812.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
This is so weird. I was on a jet blue flight from New York to Boston the other day! I wonder if he was on the same flight?!
