[Official Update] HRE, S. Korea, and more!

http://www.geocities.jp/himaruya/4kakone.html

It looks like this page was updated with lots more text and a doodle of chibis. (HRE, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, S. Korea, Cyprus)

Ooh how interesting. The two new ones look adorable. Maybe they're all in the same time period?

[identity profile] disneyotaku.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
The only new one is Cyprus. TNRC had been shown before, just letting you know! :)

I just mixed up left and right herpderp.

[identity profile] tarafishes.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The one on the far right is Cyprus and the second to the left is the Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus I think. That or Egypt.

[identity profile] hetaliafaerie.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The one between HRE and South Korea is Egypt, I think. IDK who the other one is.

[identity profile] 5-meter-zombie.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's Cyprus (he appeared with Greece in vol 4 if I'm not mistaken)

He isn't egypt. He is TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) and the other one is Cyprus ^^

[identity profile] vysnia-cerasus.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The hat's a little different, looks like it's indeed TRNC (though missing a curl that Himaruya drew in a hatless chibi draft a while back). Other boy is Cyprus.

[identity profile] hetaliafaerie.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hey look, people responded! I feel so loved xD

[identity profile] yukihiro826.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's Egypt on the second line... But the last guy is idk

If he is Cyprus he is kinda different from what i imagine though... I think he has a much more friendlier or understanding face

[identity profile] mg-emji.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Himaruya write about characters who are missing on the cover.
Then that guys are Cyprus and Northern Cyprus.

[identity profile] cinziamattia.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
somebody knows what they are saying?

Random bits and pieces from vol.4

On p. 94 is written that "Ita-chan was like a devil", why was that?

The Italo-Turkish war, (Veneziano-Turkey as he says) in which the two countries continued to repeatedly beat the shit out of each other.

As Veneziano was on the height of his power, he led his fleets, knocked down Turkey and beat him off, and Turkey reluctantly set the first freedom messenger in a Christian country. (my history knowledge about these parts of Europe are very limited, could someone explain what he's talking about?)

But later Veneziano's situation got worse too, reinforcements didn't come either and it is said that he acted really demon-like in the hard struggle.

Yet he becomes clumsier (hetare) as he grows older...

> What's the mysterious dance that America dances to in the "With Americans" strip?

It's 5, 6, 7, 8 dance from Steps. It's very catchy!

(thank [livejournal.com profile] taleness, she was the first one who found this jewel yesterday)

> About the Mont Saint-Michel strip

There is a statue of Jeanne on Mont Saint-Michel, but I only found out as I read the pamphlet later. I definitely want to go there again to see her.

By the way, they sell omelets next to Mont Saint-Michel made with lots of meringue, they are quite extraordinary.

(proof Himaruya is co-working on the lyrics for MKC?)

> Uneme onsen (hot springs in Fukushima)
Do you know it???

> Were you able to defeat the zombies, Mr. Himaruya?

After that I took my pen and transformed into an undead while I wrote, so right now the zombies are my quite nice drinking buddies. (I can't get to the scans for vol.4, does this even make sense?)

Quick translation 4

>Romania
Hungary has finally her partner for arguing. His strong points are good luck charms and magic. An eccentric and cheerful fellow.

> The asymmetrical guy that talked to Greece?

Cyprus.

Quite busy thanks to the arguments between Turkey and Greece. Cool and composed, he takes things easy.

> I was overwhelmed by the number of characters on the cover! But there were only 47, I would like to see the remaining three.

I want to upload the remaining three as soon as they are ready. I think 5 or 6 characters are missing from the back page. Super-tsunderela Korea too!

> The bit about anko hate (sweet bean paste)

I was quite surprised as I found out that anko scores very highly on the list of Japanese meals that are not very popular with foreigners, about the same level as natto (fermented beans) and narezushi (fermented sushi).

Lots of people start eating it without knowing and end up being all "blergh". I saw with my own eyes someone return a Monaka (dry waffle filled with bean paste) being all "blergh". Even Chinese anko is problematic.

Even people who watched anime Doraemon and saw him eating dorayaki (little pancakes filled with bean paste), and were excited to try them out, ended up being "blergh" when they finally bit into them.

And by the way, there is always a troll who just saw reaction of someone else and whines about how he dislikes it for the sake of whining.

>The lovely island nations meeting

Meeting of people living on islands and fans of those islands. Lately they want to add sea fortresses too.

t/n I just saw a whole discussion on a Japanese forum in reaction to this about How on Earth can someone dislike anko?

Btw I would give many many internets to the person who would tell me the exact meaning of モッハ!

I...don't get why people would hate the filling in dorayaki either. It's always tasted alright to me.

It's strange with anko, I personally wouldn't mind eating it with a spoon like nutella, but every time I brought home any Japanese sweets, most of my friends were "ew, sorry but no."

A little late, but I put your translations up here: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/vol4omake/4kakone.html

Could I ask you to translate the page title? どうでも良い4巻小ネタ
Thanks for all your work. ;w;

(Side note, bean paste makes me feel like throwing up. Sorry, Japan, I wish I could like it. I tried it at least. ;w; )

The page title is the "Random bits and pieces from vol.4" line.

Thank you for putting the translations together!

I would be happier if someone with actual historical knowledge approved of this, translation is never 100% correct :)

Naw, basically Italy (Venice) was a Worthy Opponent to Turkey (who already had plenty of enemies during that time).

And here is their series of wars

Ah, I see. That's still pretty awesome, considering that this is Veneziano we're talking about.

Plus, the mental image of Feli pimp-slapping Sadiq is far too funny to pass up.

TRNC and Cyprus. I'm glad to see that Cyprus finally has a face! Not sure how to feel about his asymmetrical hair though, it looks cute with the chibi but looked stranger in his full appearance. I wonder about their eye colors now too; TRNC had golden-brown eyes on his first card appearance, but you know how Himaruya is with color consistency for some of these guys. They do look to have dark or dull eyes though, if the shading's to go by.

I'd like to see both of them do something in a strip one day. It'd be nice to get more females though, the brand-new nations in volume 4 were all guys ;;

[identity profile] alexvan5.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it just me or does HRE look more and more like a little Germany every time we see him? Like, his mannerisms and expressions.

Yup, that's definitely Holy Roman Empire, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, South Korea, and Cyprus /desperately wishes he could add the tags to this post because he's OCD like that/. Seems he's highlighting the characters that didn't get chibis on the back cover, and says that he'll post them soon or something. (I wonder if Romania and Macau will get ones too? :/)

I hope this means that we'll be getting non-overlapping color versions of the existing ones on the blog at some point too. :D

So that's how TRNC more composed older brother looks like! I want to hug Cyprus!!!!
