I've been trying to figure this out as well. xD

From what I can tell, the closest resemblance is with WW1 or pre-WW1 Prussian navy uniforms, which is a very interesting thought.

Well, an earlier profile described Switzerland as having a "hedgehog-like personality" so maybe that's what it means? Switzerland being called "the hedgehog" like Spain is called "Boss Spain" in the Boss Spain strips.
