[Cosplay] USUK at A-Kon 22!

Hello, Hetalia community!

Recently, a friend and I attended A-Kon 22 where we debuted are recently completed America and England costumes! This was a feat considering there were finished amidst my recovery from surgery, and I did all the construction on both of them, wig styling included!

The details you see on [livejournal.com profile] bexara's Royal Air Force uniform (seen in the Arte Stella book!) are all vintage WWII RAF items, from the hat and insignia to all the little buttons and the ribbon bar. She did all that research herself, and I was personally very impressed.

By the way, it was about 100 degrees in Dallas the day these were taken. How we survived, I''ll never know. Also, Westboro Baptist Church was apparently right across the street! XD Pretty unheroic of me to not notice, I suppose, but oh well.

Anyway, without further ado, the costumes!

I saw the gathering there. Those are some nice pictures. Yeah Dallas gets hot around summer but at least it wasn't the next weekend. Temperatures reached 103! Anyway I am glad the cosplayers did this project, it was dun to observe. I wish I had a camera at the time to capture it. I was walking towards the Marriott Hotel by that yogurt shop. Hope you and your friend had at good time at Akon 22 and I give props to bexara on the uniform. It is really well done. I also like the detail placed on your cosplay as well.

P.S. Did you see a America cosplayer with a giant hamburger accessory? I saw her go to the group but then I lost her. Just wanting to know.

Aw that is neat. I saw many cosplayers that day and that hamburger just caught my eye. I wanted to ask for a picture but then me and my sister realized we did not have a camera with us. We brought money for food and stuff, that was it, but still it would have been nice to bring one. Anyway I am glad the temperature did not burden you and the rest of the cosplayers while you were outside. I am just glad I got to see Hetalia cosplayers in my hometown. I missed last year due to funding issues but this year my sis and I knew we had to come and make up for lost time.

Just one question: Is America your favorite character that you wanted to cosplay as him or did his design make for a cosplay that you felt comfortable achieving? Meaning you felt you could pull off a convincing America. I have heard both sides of reasoning for cosplaying a character and so if it's not a issue I would just like to know.

That's a good reason. Playing characters that have different sides to them is difficult but rewarding when you do them right. I haven't cosplayed yet but I have written papers where I had to portray both sides of a argument or theme and be fair on both which is difficult if one side has more positive or negative evidence depending on the subject. I like America and Austria as well and they do make good contrasts with each other. One thing I know they share is their patriotism as Austrians are known to wave their nation's flag with pride as well and good for them. For me Germany is my favorite character due to his patience with Italy and his stern yet kind nature. I like the approach Himaruya did with his character as watching Germany's interactions turns attention for a moment away from the war and focuses on presenting the character as a person.
