well, i don't think I have a lick of German in me, but I like the cultural aspects of hetalia and when I saw Obama and Merkel, I thought this would be fun to do ^^ Plus, a german/canadian (I think) had suggested drawing Merkel with Germany to me before. And I knew the German infantries in the Civil War were kinda a big deal for the Union. Where I'm from, Missouri, the state probably would have succeeded to the Confederacy without the huge influx of German and Irish around that time.

When I learned that William Penn sent brochures over to Germany telling everyone to get their butts over to America, I could have died laughing. And that, of course, is why the Pennsylvania Dutch exist.

That's hilarious. I thought William Penn only wrote people in England, I didn't know he had such a crucial role as all that. *feels stupid* But just further proof the Germans had a big role in America. I mean, I know it sounds corny, but America in many ways is so awesome because it doesn't have any real culture except this amalgam of other cultures. Yeah, yeah, I know the ways we suck, too, but I like being positive :)

haha, I guess =D might be more appropriate. I don't really know much about economics, but I enjoy reading the news and for awhile now Germany's name has been popping up. Plus, I kinda think Obama gave Merkel the medal as a way to suck up a little to Germany. I mean, I adore Obama, but I think it's pretty obvious he would like Germany's support with our whole budget dilemma.

Oh, and thanks! I decided to make her look a little younger, but Merkel really is not a bad looking woman!

Well, the economy is doing well, not perfect, but well. Still means that the east is poorer than the west and the south is richer than both, but at least we're way over the crisis =D

I thought it would be fun to share some of this info as kind of an homage to Germany <3

It would be weird, but there is really such an influence. I almost see the American Civil War as the time Germany shows support to America and gets them really affiliated. Ah, headcanon.

weeeell, the civil war was way later than the revolutionary war (by way later, only a hundred years). If America left England for anyone in the Revolutionary war it wold be France, only to betray him during the Quasi War with France. Hmm, America can be mean :P

But the Civil War had German immigrants help out a lot in preserving the Union, while France and England sided with the Confederacy. I think Russia officially sided with the Union, so it was like Germany and Russia vs. France and England with America on both sides.

It's good to see that the americans seem to like us since we germans are pretty interested in everything that comes from the states. Except for cars. We can built those ourselves.^^

Yeah, I think most Americans are pretty respective of German culture. Just kind of passed over with the people, and I think modernly Germany is viewed very highly in a political sense. I've always wanted to go.

I didn't know how to go about drawing Ms. Merkel, so I ended up deciding to do what I did with Obama; omit the less than perfect parts and just make her a nice looking anime version.

Ah, yes. The car; invented in Germany and mass-produced in America by Henry Ford, so most Americans think it was created here, haha. I think I'm the only person I know who drives a manual Ford anymore. Gets great gas mileage; but most people I know bought cars from Japan or Germany. The nice ones came from Germany. I guess in Heaven, they would all be the engineers. I guess Americans would be the assembly line workers (wait, that's a horrible job!)
