[Cosplay] 17th Century Seychelles

It's been a while since I posted anything here, but I felt I needed to share this newest cosplay with the community. 17th Century France (Children's Day France) Has inspired a new version to go with it. Many months, hours and painstakingly long sew sessions have created a Seychelles 17th Century French design to go with it~

Alright, so I don't often make a post for a new cosplay, but I felt this one really needed one, So I am sharing this here.

This was something that we had planned for quite a few months. My cosplay partner (France here) made his Children's Day France outfit back in November in time for Hetalia Day. After spending months working on it and studying French Fashion from the correct time period (He's in school for Fashion Design), he came out with this beautiful costume, as accurate as he could make it. We decided we wanted to do more, since we both loved the design that was come up with for France. We wanted to design a matching dress for Seychelles.

The dress was designed and drawn by Hyuu-Fai though it has changed quite a bit since the original drawing when we both added input and ideas throughout the process. The skirt and bodice were surged and fit by the amazing Hyuu-Fai and then I had a fun time to sit there and sew meters and meters of trim to it, and hand embroider the beads, and jewelry.

It was designed to match France's in colour and style, and was based off the dresses worn by female adolescences in the same time period. We went for more of a child's look then a full woman's gown, because she would have been a colony, not a full country and we saw her more of a child then a full grown woman, it also kept that innocence we were aiming for in her costume.

This dress costs $500 dollars roughly in material to make, 75 meters of trim, 24 meters in skirt, 5 layers of petticoats, 12 pounds of material, 5 months of sewing and a lot of patience and luck.

The material was a drapery fabric, so it was tough and strong and would hold up the weight of the skit. It was surged together for the most part, though some places were hand sewn. The bodice has beads and sea shells hand embroidered into the fabric. The skirt has 3 layers of fabric, and then trimmed. The trim is made of 4 different trims that were then sewn together and added to the different layers.

The jewelry was where we added the island girl touch. The dress was designed to match the French style, but the jewelry was where we added the Seychelles touch. I made the necklace in the /style/ of the time period, but was created from rocks and sea shells. The strings of beads were also added to the gold ribbons in the hair.

Pictures, debuted at Fanime 2011, San Jose, California:

Do not use this design for Seychelles without direct permission. It took a lot of design and time to make, and design, and create, and it was to much work to just be taken so easily. I am only adding this because it's already happened

We hope you liked our creation, and interpretation of what Seychelles might have been dressed in <3 .

Such a beautiful dress! It's obvious how much time and effort you put into it.

Still, with the recent theft of an original pirate Switzerland cosplay design b one of those HK based cosplay shops, I'd consider slapping a watermark or something on these guys.

Very pretty! I love the gold and jade (or light green) tones you used, it looks very elegant and fun all at the same time. And nice touch with the seashell jewlery. ;)
