APH Volume 3 still to be sold in the UK?

I just received an email from Amazon telling me that "customers who have purchased or rated books by Hidekaz Himaruya might like to know that Hetalia Axis Powers Volume 3 will be released on 7 June 2011". Having looked at the website, there is the option to pre-order Vol 3 from the UK website, but not the American one. Is it possible that Tokyopop will still be releasing Volume 3 in the UK, or am I just getting my hopes up for nothing?

(Mods, I wasn't sure which tags to use. Apologies in advance.)

I live in the UK and pre-ordered vol 3 in febuary, and I've yet to receive an cancellation email. Even weirder than that, amazon have actually continued to UPDATE it's listing, addding a cover image and product description over the last couple of weeks. But then again, amazon are pretty lazy when it comes to removing/editing cancelled or postponed releases. I ordered vol 1 of Wandering Son back in march, and it was about a week after the release date that I received an email telling me that the release was being put back till june. So it probably is just false hope :( It would be nice to think it was more though.

Everywhere I've seen just says that only the North American rights are being given back to the owners (so Hetalia will probably get picked up by another publisher in the US and Canada) and European and UK publishing operations are going to be unaffected by the closure. I'm sure Amazon wouldn't have put out an email, even if they were lazy about taking down cancelled titles. They must be sure about it to send out the email as well, otherwise they wouldn't update the page at all.

I just got my order cancellation email from Amazon for the US release like ten minutes ago, actually. So it looks like no Hetalia volume 3 for us North Americans. ;__;

when Tokyopop had announced they were closing, they'd said it was only the North American publishing branches that were being closed down. That being largely affected by the bankruptcy announcements of Borders (a purely American bookstore chain and one of their largest sellers in the states).
They'd mentioned in the same announcement that their video licensing would stay in business in North America and that their publishing houses outside of North America would remain open

Strangely, I've only read about Tokyopop America to shut down - and in Europe, they say Tokyopop Germany will still publish manga.
So well, the situation in the UK is very unclear to me. Is the version sold in the UK the same as in the US? If so, I don't have much hope for you guys. Because I don't think they'd produce it on their own and leaving out the big market in the States.

(Unfortunately, Tokyopop Germany still kind of refuses to publish Hetalia. Not suited for the German market, hm.)

Looks like I'll probably be ordering it via the UK website then. 6:
At least there may be still a way to get an english edition. Good news, for once. For those of us in North America, with both TokyoPop AND Borders closing it was a large blow. Since since Borders provided a larger selection (and some may argue a better selection, since they also updated faster) than B&N.
I live right by Borders Headquarters and they've even closed the stores around here. I don't believe they'll bounce back from this, but I haven't given up my spark of hope. As koosei said, Borders was very important to Tokyopop and its business, very vital, but even with a Borders comeback I do not believe Tokyopop will follow with opening N.A. publishing again. I look forward to APH getting picked up by someone else...really soon, hopefully.
But hey, then not all hope is lost for readers who only speak english. (': I'm happy to hear this.

Sorry, Amazon is trolling you.

Considering that the UK is simply getting the US/Canada imports of the Hetalia manga I find this rather strange. Contrary to the posts above, there isn't a separate publishing house in Europe that will be distributing Hetalia volume 3. The only branch of Tokyopop that is still in publishing operation is the German branch, and they don't even have the rights to Hetalia (only the NA branch did).

It took the US and Canadian amazon websites forever to remove the release date info for Tokyopop's books, so I imagine that they haven't gotten to updating the UK site to reflect the company shutting down yet.

The best we can hope for is that the manga will be relicensed soon or it'll get licensed in Australia or Singapore.

Amazon actually has an automated email system that sends release info like this to account holders, usually stuff on their wish list or similar stuff. Just today I got an automated email telling me about a Tsubasa volume that came out in 2008.

The site I usually buy books from Book Depository (www.bookdepository.co.uk) has all the Hetalia volumes listed as 'unavailable' now, which makes me think that it's Amazon being slow to change the information on their website and we won't be getting it :(

Ah well we can only hope it'll actually turn out well this time *prays*

its false hope girl ;(

amazon is just being lazy ._.

lest just hope Hetalia gets licence by another publisher soon x(

I went to Chapters today with a friend today. No volume 3, and none coming according to the website.
Why did Tokyopop go out of business anyways? It's like the top manga company.

[identity profile] nuitfroide.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
BTW, does anyone have a link to the scanlations?

Now my question is if it's not false hopes, I wonder if the American audience could buy from the UK. They would make money off of us if we could.

There are a number of reasons. One is that Borders, one of the biggest suppliers of TP books in the UK and America, went bust in the recession. And besides from those economic elements, TP was just a prime example of a once great company that went in to downfall as a result of a great series of mistakes. One of these was the fact that while previously TP would have always been the one to liscense big titles, they began to let the licensing rights for big mangas slip to other publishers. So when Del Rey arrived, they quickly began to snap up big series like Negima, XXXHolic and Tsubasa. They also let a lot of popular CLAMP mangas like CCS, Chobits and Clover go out of print, whose rights were then snapped up by Darkhorse and Yen Press.

And the part that played the largest role in their downfall was their stupid decision to shift their focus from the publishing of big titles to the promotion of 'new 'talent'' - i.e. the painfully bad original English language 'manga' market. Or, rather than actual 'manga', the works of American cartoon artists tokenistically trying to get a bite in to the current fad by adding big eyes to their normal designs. On a whole this, unsurprisingly, went down like a lead baloon. It probably was about the worse business decision that TP ever made, and I cringe on their behalf.

They are in this group. Look in the blue box on the right hand side for 'HETALIA SCANALATIONS'.

You could order from amazon UK. You'd just have to pay the shipping, is all.

[identity profile] randamonian.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I preordered some stuff on Amazonco.uk that gets released on the same day. I've gotten the shipping notice for those items, and all they say is that Hetalia is not yet released, even though I have them listed as going out all together. I have little hope here.

Says volume 3 is available now, and from the looks of things people have already bought it. Guess it was true then~ :)
