I was inspired by some illustrations recently and wanted to try more shading techniques, and so then I had to draw something first. The shading part didn't succeed quite as well as I'd hoped I'll have to print the lineart out and try again when I figure out what to do better but I am glad for the excuse to play with this conceit:

Somewhere along the line someone will have taught N. Italy about pulling petals off flowers and playing "he loves me, he loves me not." And I imagine that Italy would fail horribly at this game, because he isn't tsundere enough to worry in secret about whether people like him--he'd just bluntly and unashamedly ask. So instead he'd be sitting around plucking petals while saying "He loves me, he loves me, he loves me..."

Holy Roman Empire, on the other hand, would be hiding at the other end of the garden, agonizing over it and trying to figure out how to beat the system without actually resorting to such blatant cheating as counting the petals before picking his flower...

Also I am 90% sure I recognize you from scanlation comments (something along the lines of please keep scanning HRE/Chibitalia), so here is some potentially relevant to your interests TL;DR!
I'd completely forgotten that I had raws for this HRE/Chibitalia doujin by COLOR (http://rubysp720scans.livejournal.com/26581.html) (post is locked in another comm so I am not sure if you can actually see it...), but then I stumbled across them and realized I'd meant to translate it and also remembered how much I loved the art. In an ideal world, where I would have a consistent style, that's how I'd love to draw, shading things in like that. So that is what I tried to achieve...! It didn't turn out quite how I wanted, so I'll just keep practicing...
