Help with writing a history-based Lithuania fanfic?

Hi, I was wondering if there were any folks here interested in helping me write a fanfic I have in mind. It is very Lithuania-centered, but there is also a large focus on the relationship between Russia and Lithuania. Poland, America, Estonia, and Latvia may also make brief appearances. It takes place when Lithuania declares it's renewed independence in 1990, and his difficulties becoming independent after being under Russian control for so long. It reads sort of like a break-up between Russia and Lithuania, with Lithuania having some serious co-dependency and coping issues, as well as reclaiming his own life and culture.

I want there to be a strong emphasis on Lithuanian culture. Unfortunately, I'm not the best with history. I love it to death, but I have a difficulty understanding it and retaining information. I read through the wikipedia pages and did a little research on my own, but I was wondering if anyone could point me to a good website or help provide me with easy-to-read information regarding the Russian control of Lithuania, as well as information on Lithuania's culture (past and present.) I need information that isn't too dense and difficult to understand.

If anyone has any links to information, documentaries, or history and culture broken down for the dummies like me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Maybe there is a history buff around here willing to friend me on skype or yahoo, and help educate me on the whole thing? I figured I'd at least give it a shot. I'm willing to help you out with anything that I can as well.

Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I assume you mean Lithuania, right?

If so, hey there ^_^~
I'm a leetle but of a history nut myself, mostly focused on European, south african and Australian history (what Mina person would I be if I weren't interested in my own countries history?!?)

Anyway, I lOVE historical accuracy in my fics too, so here's some links that might help you :3

http://www.balticsworldwide.com/tourist/lithuania/history.htm
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/lithuania/history

These sites have pretty much the same info, but sometimes reading it from a different angle makes it easier to understand?

Ah,also, if you wanted a basic timeline, try this

There aren't many documentaries focused on Lithuania alone that I've seen (Australia, why you no like docs about Europe that DON'T focus on the Great wars?), but I'm sure there ARE some out there :/

I just thought it would be nice to thank you for the info even if I'm not the person who asked for it.

Because... I'm pretty sure I'll end up using it myself ;u;

Oh me me I'd love to help. I wanted to do a very cultural and historical fanfic for a very long time, but I suck at writing. I'm a genuine Lithuanian and a huge history buff, so if you have questions on certain events you could ask me. (I may not have all the sources cause there all in my Lithuanian history books)

If you can find the movie 'Singing Revolution' on the net somewhere I would watch it. I know the movie centers around Estonia and how it got its independence however all three Baltic states went through pretty much the same thing under Russia rule such as people being hauled off to work camps in Russia. This movie will give you a really good feel on how it was for Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia under Russian occupation. Also it does mention Lithuania, like when all three Baltic countries made a human chain. There are a lot of mentions of the the other countries, but you get to see the Soviet Union dissolve through Estonian eyes. But this movie should help you with your story a lot.

Sadly, I think you will only be able to find this on a torrent site.

But Good luck! I am looking forward to reading this!
