Names for Nyotalians?
I thought it'd be fun to share some names each of us may have come up with for the cast of Nyotalia. Thanks to Himaruya, we're free to name them however we want.
For me, I see it as an opportunity to give characters names that are not only politically correct, but also have meaning behind them. Like take North Italy. Feliciano is fine by me, it's Italian and means "happy, fortunate". But his surname is such fail guys. For those of you who don't know, Vargas is a Spanish surname. It's awkward and I think Himaruya used it because of those Vargas Pinups back from WWII. Which is even odder since that was an American thing. That's just my guess. But fandom is too used to Vargas and will most likely keep on using it.
So for his fiercer counterpart, I went through several different names before I decided on Luciana which means "Light" in Italian. As for the surname, Valente comes to mind. Or Vitale. Not very picky, but anything other than Vargas.
And what about the rest of you? What kind of names do you use?

Regarding the question, I usually use the "girl version" for their names, if they have one. If not, I just pick something I like or has a close meaning. For example, I've used Felicja for Fem!Poland because it's the same as Feliks, but Audra for Fem!Lithuania because, well, I liked it.
And I keep their surnames unless they are the kind of surnames that change with gender, such as Slavic ones and the like.

I really like the idea of fem!Sweden being named Ingrid or Elin. They're pretty names. Also, Elin is a lesbian character from the (somewhat famous?) Swedish movie Fucking Åmål.
Aside from my biased OTP.. I really like some of the names I've seen going around in the fandom. Heidi (Switzerland), Marianne (France), Anya (Russia) and Madeleine (Canada) are my favourites. It's always interesting to hear what names people want to give their countries, especially since there seems to be a story behind every name. ♥

Veneziano: Rosa, Felicia
Romano: Chiara, Luisa
Prussia: Maria (I know it's not German, but lots of chars have names that aren't their language, and I like the sound of a religious name for Fem!Gil. If he was a kniht as male, he'd be a nun as female~ XD)
Japan: Sakura
England: Alice, Elizabeth, Rose, Guinevere
France: Marianne (The official personification of France.)
America: Amelia
Canada: Madeline (Both Englishable and Frenchable and the nickname "Maddie" sounds alot like "Mattie".)
