1866: Prussia and Italy formed an alliance against the Austrian Empire. This was called "Third war of Independence" for the Italian Kingdom, but it's better known as Austro-Prussian War.
The Italian army and fleet lost badly against the Austrian (a part from Garibaldi and his men who were slowly going on on their path through the Alps, conquering Bezzecca but then having to go back because the war ended), but then the Austrian Empire was beaten up badly by the Prussian army.
However, Italy managed to earn Venice from Austria - actually, Austria gave Venice to France, which then donated it to Italy.

I know these facts aren't exactly the most honorable to draw a picture about, our Risorgimento has many moments which are less embarrassing xD but I liked the idea of drawing all those characters together.
And still, for as many sad events happened through our history, and embarrassing characters we have had and still have in our country, we can deal with it as long as we remember all the many good moments and brave people and artists who still make this the best place in the world~

I find this part of history extremely interesting and amazing, with all the sides and the parts that contributed into the Italian unification process - and an important role was definitely played by the other European powers, both as allies and as opponents.

The uniforms and outfits in the drawing were meant to look like the ones worn by Napoleon III, Bismarck, Franz Joseph and Garibaldi, but, uhm, I didn't reallt try that hard, so please don't get offended by the scarce resemblance.

A volte mi sento l'unica tra le persone che conosco a sentirmi fiera del mio essere italiana, e sono felicissima per questa festa~ quando ho sentito che alcuni parlamentari della Lega hanno abbandonato l'aula durante l'inno, sono rimasta sconcertata. Purtroppo le diffirenze culturali tra nord e sud sono sempre state pressanti, e l'Italia è una nazione relativamente recente, che ha sempre avuto una gestione statale profondamente sbajata, e ci stiamo tirando dietro ancora adesso problemi che fino ad oggi nessuno è riuscito a risolvere (spesso nemmeno prendendoli in considerazione)...

I've always loved Italy, it's history and it's culture. :)
I'm attempting to learn Italian, but the grammar part always gets me. .__.
I keep confusing many things with Spanish. >.

Ti dirò solo che io sono Trentina, le differenze culturali tra nord e sud esistono ma sono queste che rendono l'Italia splendida (intendo ovviamente le differenze culturali buone, non le disparità economiche eccetera... quelle sono un'eredità triste che chissà se riusciremo mai ad eliminare). Non commento quello che ha fatto la Lega perché oggi è un giorno di festa e non mi va di farmi venire il mal di stomaco ^^'

I problemi sono tantissimi, io spero solo che questo 150° anniversario, con tutte le sue polemiche e le sue riflessione, sia un'occasione per spingere tutti noi a cercare di migliorare il paese con rinnovata energia. (e possibilmente non quella nucleare... <<''')

Di carta ho la Canson, 24x32 cm! In realtà questo è ancora il mio primo blocco di carta per acquerelli,, perché non li ho usati molto fin'ora ma mi trovo bene perché si imbarca poco anche se la bagni molto.
Di acquerelli ho un piccolo set Windsor & Newton.
