haha that's awesome XD I found out from my sister (who found out from her friend) but I learned about Hetalia too late in order to make it useful in history class :( *sigh* haha
I got found out though Gaia Online anime/manga discussion forums.
Hetalia is amusing for history, even in college Western Civ class. (I tend to text my Hetalia-fan best friend when I'm in class. We decided Grandpa Rome was lonely and just randomly stole kiddlets...thus the Roman Empire.)
i heard it from an old online friend who i've lost touch with rant about how cute it is. and then weeks/months later i started watching it and fell in love
A girl in one of my computer classes had to do a project about the Axis Powers, so she typed "Axis Powers" into Google Images in hopes of finding some historical images or whatever. Guess what she got a ton of? >> Too bad she didn't look into it more. :C
A bunch of my favorite artists on Deviant Art started drawing it and the characters were cute so I decided to give it a go. I loved it after reading just a few strips and immediately converted my roommate :)
*probably wrote this elsewhere before* I found it via some fanart when browsing through deviantART. I found the idea interesting but was put off at first 'cause I was wary over the whole WWII thing (misinformation's a betch). Found more fanart about a year later, decided to give the online manga a chance and lo' I've not been sane since 8D
Looking back I really wish I'd set aside my reservations a year earlier and got into it when Hetalia was all new and sparkly, cos it would have been cool to be part of something from the very beginning :3
I ran into it because it was all over at an anime con, I thought to myself, "What's this Hetalia all about?" A good friend of mine explained it and I decided to check it out. Fell in love immediately and the rest has become history. :)
I heard about it through the whole "South Korea hates Hetalia" thing. I read a message board filled with both people who DIDN'T watch it, saying it must be wildly offensive/cruel/biased, and people who DID watch it, and defend it as harmless and good natured (and heard a number of comments about cute boy characters).
Curious like I always am about cute boys anything causing that kind of upset, I decided to investigate to see the truth.
I thought I was watching the wrong show at first because it was SO mild and I soon forgot about it.
Only to come back on a bored day in late August of 2010 to start watching it again.
And now here I am, hopelessly in love with the the show, and all the before mentioned cute boys a fangirl. Couldn't be happier.
I was doing a project for an elective a couple of years ago. And I decided to do it on Sealand. When googling images, I got a few images in the bunch that looked like a character from an anime. Then the hell started when I began to google things that were not relative to the project.
I was watching German WWII movies when I suddenly felt completely disgusted and unable to watch any more. Then I remembered the little comic my friends had been spazzing about 3-4 years ago, googled it, and archive-binged EVERYTHING in one night.
Before that, though, I remember a little bit of curiosity due to a personality quiz which everyone took, which is probably why it stuck in my head. At first, I got Hungary... but now, Greece?! What a bizarre turnaround.
Almost like you (recommended by a friend) ,but at first I didnt interested all (First impression : Hetalia was stupid series judging from anime ORZ forgive me Himaruya sensei >_>) Pixiv made interested again (LOLWUT THOSE GORGEROUS BISHOUNEN ARTS AND BL hints) . then I try read the manga ............ got hooked and I love history now
First I found some fanart in DeviantART and checked the series out (because I love history) but didn't think too much of it. A few years later I went to a con and saw this really good cosplay show, took a look at the comics again and now it's me that tries to get other people to read Hetalia.
I knew about the premise of the show from a friend, but I was initially put off (WWII made CUTE? Really?) Curiosity got the better of me and I started to look into it once deviantart had exploded and there was a sudden influx of APH fanart.
8D first time I heard about Hetalia was when an artist on deviantArt I used to be fond of updated her journal about how much she hated Hetalia, and how it was utterly stupid and how the History told in the manga was wrong. I decided to watch some episodes so I'd be able to talk about it too. And I just fell in love? >.>
(first ep I watched was when France asks England to become his husband~! XD)
The first time I heard of Hetalia I became annoyed with all the people fangirling everywhere so I decided I wouldn't watch it, then I found a video in youtube (SOS or something about Germany being a maiden, anyway...) a friend of mine started downloading the chapters and told me they were very short so she passed me the chaps and I went WTH?! cuz it didn't made sense at the beginning so "watch to the end" and in some part I got hooked up, and well here I am...My name is Miya and I've got a year fangirling about hetalia, thank you for your support...
I got into Hetalia cause my sister was crazy about the anime. I read the manga first, fell in love with Himaruya's small explanations and comments written below the strips. Then fell even deeper when I heard "MARU KAITE CHIKYUU." Srsly, that song is addicting xD
Heh, I found out about it after an Otakon two or so years back. I saw people carrying flags, got curious, and looked it up. Unfortunately, I had only the webcomics to go off of, and they're a bit rough without anything else, so I wandered off.
This year, I randomly decided to look into it again since my current fandom was making me want to cry damn you, DC Comics; I love fandom, but canon is breaking me, so I did. And I found the anime subs on youtube. Watched it all in two to three days. XD I've been hooked ever since. And I haven't been wanting for fic for over a month. Thank you, kink meme. <3
EDIT: It helps that I already loved history before this (all you need is a good teacher!), and I'm a total language nerd (an Italian major with half her family in Italy). Sooo. XD I fell in love with Romano's characterization (my character type AND where my family originates all in one angry package of adorable), and I haven't looked back, lol. <3
I found out about Hetalia because I was hearing about it EVERYWHERE. At first I wasn't interested, but then people started pairing up country names and I was like "what o.O" so I watched the anime to see what it was about. Then I read the webcomics and manga. THEN I got into the fandom.
I already liked history before this but now I can't write papers without thinking about Hetalia and giggling LIKE A FOOL each time I see a country's name.
