 Does anyone know why Israel and Ireland are on the drop-down character menus on fanfiction.net? Also, why is there an "unknown" and "unknown2" category as well?

Because I would have expected an explosion if Ireland and Israel became officially canon.

I'm assuming that Ireland and Isreal appear as OCs often enough that either the folks in charge of FF.net mistook them for canon characters or just decided to put them up there to make finding those two OCs easier.

I think the two unknowns are basically the same thing, placeholders for OCs and/or fandom/peripheral characters that don't get their own slots – so, if your fic stars Indonesia and Mexico or Workbitch Bartholomew and Allen, for instance, you can put unknown and unknown 2 in the character slots to make finding it easier.

A lot of time, FF.net will respond to peoples requests for a certain character to be added. I guess they appear as OC's enough that some people wanted them to be added.
