[Official Site] Ukraine(?) and Italys!

Ukraine(?) preview for the preview. I like the colors!

Blog title: It's crazy how much Europe depends on Germany

I'm planning on updating the TOP and the sidebar icons.
This time they're going to be country style.

A survey reveals the Japanese imagine their country to be a person in their 50s
Thanks for the info!

It's interesting that when asked to imagine how old Japan would be, Japan ended up being the oldest.

44 year olds...?

Link to the entry! Translation by [livejournal.com profile] maddred

What font should I use for typesetting. . . ? Is that even the word for it?

Didn't we have a "North Italy" tag. . . ?

Romano: From here you look like a moustached old man. Take that, stupid brother!
Italy: But from here you look like the one who's got the moustache, brother-

44 year olds...?(referring to article above)

Dear Romano... when your brother is being smarter and more sensible than you... just stop it.

I would really like to know why Himaruya think south Italy is obsessed with this thing... and deems moustaches a bad thing... during Italian unity mustaches were even considered really fashionable (look at Vittorio Emanuele II)... -_- and there's who considered them fashionable even during the 2 World Wars. They didn't make you look old... they made you look important (or so peopid back then... I personally don't like them but that's another matter).

[identity profile] nodokaotonashi.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Because "IT'S A-MEEEEEE ! MARIOOOOOO ! WOHOO !"

I don't know personally. We've seen him only twice with this moustache. Maybe because the two Italies are young ? I don't recall 20-year old people in the old times bearing moustaches. But yeah, a beard would have been better.

[identity profile] jjblue1.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been watching the photos of the house of Savoy when they were the kings of Italy. Men without them are a rarity.

Considering it wasa sign of distinction and importance and boys were trying to get them as soon as possible I say that, even if at 20 it was unlikely they had managed to already have them, they would have probably be pleased to have them if they could.
(also, it's kind of stereotypical here that teenager boys spends hours in front of the mirror searching for traces of facial hair... that now they'll shave, of course [in the case they'll manage to find them] because moustaches and facial hair aren't fashionable anymore but, if they were fashionable, I think they would be happy to keep them...)

[identity profile] jjblue1.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, not a sign of obsession. Still a thing that comes out randomly and that doesn't really make much sense in the contest in which he placed it, especially the first time he used it (and I doubt the first time it was due to a request).

No, it wouldn't be taken as such. It would be mocking if they had moustaches and he found a way to make them look without them, not viceversa.
Now it could be mocking because they aren't fashionable anymore, not back then, prior/during WW2.

But I guess the joke isn't meant to be amusing for Italians of that time but for Japanese of present time and for them (or people of other cultures) it could be funny.

[identity profile] tuulensisko.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be just a Japanese thing; Japanese people, especially the young people nowadays, seem to have a thing against facial hair. (At Pixiv, favourite insults against France and England respectively are hige and mayuge: beard and eyebrows. It's weird because neither of those sounds particularly offensive to Europeans... I do get it why it's so in Japan, though, since they have rather little facial hair or body hair in general so it's natural to find it a bit weird. (Also, my guess is that historically it might have something to do with being associated with the Ainu people who have a lot more facial hair.))

[identity profile] jjblue1.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You might be up on something here. I've heard about Japanese people's disliking for facial hair so maybe Romano's joke is meant for Japanese people's only.
^________^ Thank you for your suggestion!

I figure I'd post this here since this is the original post regarding the pic. Humaruya put the whole pic up!
It's Ukraine, Latvia and Liechtenstein!

Just a note. If you link the picture directly they usually won't appear for people. FC2 doesn't allow direct linking.

H-Himaruya I swear that survey was a CAPTALIA post of 2 weeks ago or so.
maybe he watches us... no way It must be just a big coincidence. Or not

[identity profile] kecen.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Friend sent me a link to that survey XD

Maybe a new strip about character ages? Buhyoo.

[identity profile] arfarfyum.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right Romano, you show Italy. Yup. That'll tell him.

[identity profile] hotaru13.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, those ages. Japan is ancient, China is perennially young, America is aged beyond its years... XD In the side bar next to the survey is an article titled "China 'paranoid', Philippines 'basket-case'". This is according to Australia.

It seems like Romano would have learned not to trust that traitorous mustache by now...

[identity profile] limalimalima.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! Romano never learns. He looks awfully cool with that moustache.
