Noob Wanting Help -About FanFics
Just let me know if I'm breaking any rules or something but I thought I'd ask my new community I joined for some assistance. :0
Yah see, I've been inspired quite recently to write some sort of short fanfic (the terms for genres confuse me, too) but have just gotten into Hetalia. I only have the anime series and the first vol of the manga under my belt and I know for sure that doesn't begin to cover everything.
Having sad that much, my experience with fan fics is zero. Although I've written other things before I've never finished a full-fledged story before. Sad I know, but I won't emo about it here. In short, I need some guidance and ideas. I'll try taking some advice that's already been given to me but if all else is too much to handle or not to my abilities I'd like to have another option.
In order to help with forming feedback I've made a to-the-point poll you can access here: http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=1649390 . The poll itself expires Dec 4th,tenatively, just to get a certain amount of votes.
Any and all help is appreciated!

PRETENDOUS WALLOTEXT WARNING
Hetalia fan fiction can go in a lot of directions, compounded by all the historical stuff that can inspire them. Different genres have slightly different rules. My few Hetalia stories are all comedies, one more of a love-comedy.
For inspiration, I often start with a question that occurred to me at some point, many of which start with "what if?"
"What if England lost his virginity and couldn't see unicorns anymore?"
"What would happen if Holy Roman Empire and Germany fought over who loves Italy best?"
"What would Chibitalia be like if everyone was genderswitched?"
"What if groping Germany's chest triggered childhood flashbacks?"
All of these are things that popped into my head while reading Hetalia and wound up turning into silly stories. So next time you wonder something about Hetalia, hold onto that thought and see if the answer would be interesting to write.
My biggest piece of advice, really, is to follow your gut instinct with a story. If you're trying to include a specific line or an action (or even a pairing), but it doesn't quite feel right, don't force it. Trying to write something that doesn't make sense can be a great challenge, but starting out, you should write what seems natural. Just try to think what the characters are actually feeling and doing and what they're most likely to do next. There are so many times I'll be reading someone's story and I stop cold wondering "Why the hell'd Russia just do that?" or "Since when does Poland call everyone a bitch?"
YMMV with this one, but if you can, try reading what you write aloud to yourself. Listening to someone speak is so natural to your brain that it's easy to hear errors; I'm very good at reading, but I notice different aspects of a piece when I hear it out loud.
Those are the most basic things I remember when I'm writing. I have other kinds of good advice for specific types of stories, if you decide to go with historic or romantic or lemon or what have you.
Oh, and...the poll's a neat idea, but don't feel pressured to write something to fit the results. An idea picked because you love it is the best seed for a story!
...Hope that wasn't too lengthy.
WOAH!! ...awesome. 0n0
I work great with specitivity and those are most of the questions I was looking to be answered and more! This info is great so I'll try my best to keep all the pointers in mind when I get started!
Thanks for your hospitality!

Re: I'MTOOLAZYTOPUTUPATITLE
To me, you're like the older more reasonable sibling and I just repremanded (in a nice way). :) I have to think about what I'm able do and how it all fits the characters and scenarios I want to portray, I understand now.
Thanks for your advice and detailed explainations!
Grateful ^w^
