cosplay helpness?

 hello all! 
so my friend and I are preparing for Otakon 2011. He will be Imperial Russia, and I Imperial China. I would like to take suggestions on what colors China's outfit would be, and any other suggestions if you have them. C:

China the choice is between yellow ( a royals-only color) or red (a more traditional color associated with happiness/ china). I am not sure since China the entiety isn't really royalty so if i were imperial times he would not be wearing yellow... ( even nobles were not allowed yellow)...however red is more used during marriage ceremonies and well... tis imperial china and not marriage china...D: /end historyand clothing rant... 

Mostly, I think I will be making Russia based off DreamlessxPassion's fanart: browse.deviantart.com/ and China's off of Hidekaz's drawing: himaruya.blog61.fc2.com/blog-entry-774.html. 

also, does anyone have some good pictures of RomaHeta Russia's Scythe? i looked around but can't seem to find much. if all else fails i can go screencap the video.

Red is a color that is commonly associated with China's character so I would suggest having red probably as the main body. I would also suggest yellow being somewhere in the outfit as well since it holds great meaning in Chinese tradition, actually more so than red contrary to popular belief.

And I might have a reference of Russia's scythe, but that's on my laptop, and I don't have it with me at the moment, so when I get back home I'll go through my laptop and see if I can find anything.
