I actually learned all (or almost all) about how ASEAN began today by watching these animations done by the Thai government (it was actually pretty cute, with english subs too) and it taught a little about how ASEAN began. So this was what I got.

WW2
Communism begins to spread which becomes a threat to many countries and is a threat to the stability of many nations. During this time there were also many changes in leadership such as in Indonesia and Philippines. It brought about much turbulence in the political situations of countries in the Asia Pacific for ex. Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. Thus we (SE Asia) saw the necessity for closer cooperation among the nations in the area.

August 8th, 1967
The Bangkok Accord was signed at the Sararom Palace with these signers:
Indonesia: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adam Malik
Malaysia:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Tun Abdul Razak
Philippines:Minister of Foreign Affairs, Narciso R. Ramos.
Singapore: Minister of Foreign Affairs, S. Rajaratnam
Thailand: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Special Colonel Dr. Thanat Khonan.

And so the main ASEAN quarters was created and settled in the capital city of Indonesia--Jakarta!
and the five original members are: Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia


On January 7th of 1984, Brunei Darussalam joined.
July 8th of 1995. Viet Nam joined
July 23rd of 1997, Laos and Myanmar joined
April 30th 1999, Cambodia, being the newest member.

The middle is a picture of 10 sheaves of rice stalks tied together like the 10 ASEAN members that are united as one mind.
The logo contains 4 colors, which are colors taken from the main colors of flags of the member nations. The colors are
Red: for Courage, dynamism
Yellow: Prosperity
Blue: Peace, stability
White: Purity

Oh Singapore, so tiny yet so strong eh?

I don't really know if I want S'pore to be a boy or a girl. See, if it were a girl, then we can stick her in the SIA uniform which is fun!
But then I wanna be able to slash boy!Singapore with other countries because I'm a rabid yaoi fangirl.
