Opinions on Preferred Subs?

I'm curious as to what you all think.

In my upcoming sub, I'm debating on keeping Catalia, Germouser, and Itabby.  My question is to you all, would you rather have that or Nekotalia, Neko-Germany, Neko-Italy, etc?  This will affect episodes to come I imagine.\

Your opinions!

EDIT: How about Nekotalia, Germouser and Itabby, but above put a translators note saying it is supposed to be neko-country? See jammerlea's comment for reason behind catalia not working well with me.

EDIT AGAIN: People... I already chose when I released the episode. I'm doing half and half, keeping Nekotalia (because it sounds better than Catalia) and Germouser/Itabby because it's cuter. I'm sorry for all those who prefer one or the other, but I posted the episode almost a week ago and people are still putting in opinions.
I'm putting this topic on lock, because I'm not changing my mind. I hate to go against some people, and I know some people would prefer I stuck with one extreme, but it is what it is.

I'm already used to calling them by the silly fandom names, so Itabby, Germouser, Japaneko etc. are good for me.

Can't WAIT for the rest of Nekotalia. I have the same weakness for kitties Himaruya has *7*

[identity profile] joatamon.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Also, "Nekotalia" rolls of the tongue so much better than "Catalia". We already use "Hetalia" and "Chibitalia", and for the few viewers who neither know the word "neko" or couldn't figure it out from listening to the dialogue, it wouldn't change their understanding of the content anyway.

I think the translator's note is a good idea, just to clear things up. :3

I have to say Caustria's the only name I don't like. Not cute enough!

[identity profile] adele-1.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I think maybe Catalia, Germouser, and Itabby?

Just curious, but what are the names in the original Japanese (in Romanji, please)?

[identity profile] fivedayslater.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure it's just neko-country.

[identity profile] vurmie.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Or country-neko.

[identity profile] fivedayslater.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I liked the Catalia, Germouser, Itabby ness going on.

[identity profile] sdeegan.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's really cute the way the way they are.

Itabby~

[identity profile] vurmie.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I do believe I agree with the majority of people here.

I enjoy the fandom names.

[identity profile] flamefox324.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Keep those names as they are. They sounded adorable~ :3

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Catalia, Germouser and Itabby were pretty clever, and Neko[nation] was pretty boring.

I'm kind of someone who'd rather it be a direct translation. Catalia is fine. So Italy-cat and Germany-cat, etc would be best, IMO. Some people who don't understand tend to think that Himaruya literally gave them the names "Germouser" and "Itabby". They don't understand that it's a little portmanteau that [livejournal.com profile] spaceinvaderdud came up with.
jammerlea: (LoviSigh)

[personal profile] jammerlea 2010-09-22 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Already said this, but just for reasoning, I like the portmanteau of Nekotalia better. I think it fits better with Chibitalia and of course Hetalia itself. I know they can be directly translated, but Catalia, Minitalia and Uselesstalia (not that anyone would ever use that one) don't really flow for me. Keep it consistent.

I think the fandom kitty names are cute, but I also worry people may think those are the names Himaruya gave them. Otherwise I don't have a problem with them.

[identity profile] gohstar.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
As others have stated, I also prefer Nekotalia because it goes along better with Chibitalia and Hetalia itself. I also think I prefer just Italy-cat, Germany-cat, and Japan-cat better than the fandom names in subtitles, but that's probably because I understand enough Japanese to feel kind of weird when I hear ドイツ猫 and then see "Germouser" at the same time. I also think the point should be made that those aren't canon names, but something made up by the fandom.

Keep the names as they are!

It's cute. ♥

[identity profile] cattiechaos.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind either way, I'm not real nitpicky about these things :3 I like 'Nekotalia' also, it's cuter and I don't think anyone would not understand :3 Or if they do, they'll figure it out XD; OTL"

Question though...where does Germouser came from? Because I know Itabby = Italy + tabby, but Germouser has me stumped :>

[identity profile] adele-1.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
A mouser refers to a cat who catches mice, so you have Ger + Mouser.

[identity profile] nanonaneko.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I actually prefer country-cat names to the fandom ones. Nothing I'd scream over but the fandom names distract me a little XD But I'm just glad it's subbed :3

[identity profile] suiten-sakamake.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I like the Itabby names better because Italy-cat sounds kinda...meh to me
But it's Nekotalia > Catalia for me, because it fits the theme naming better. and Catalia always makes me think of Captalia, hehe

[identity profile] aeld.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so completely lost :O
Nekotalia?! Whut?
*is slow* T_____________T

[identity profile] aeld.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
:o I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO WATCH IT
too much time drawing >^

[identity profile] pixelmicrocat.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I vote for the Nekotalia, Itabby & Germouser + translator notes combo :P

[identity profile] awww-applesauce.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in different to Catalia or Nekotalia. But I like the names Itabby and Germouser and Japaneko. Its just cuter to me. C:

[identity profile] nupinoop296.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I say keep Itabby, Germouser, and such. Kitty name puns are cute! lD;; But Nekotalia does sound better.
Edited 2010-09-22 22:18 (UTC)

[identity profile] lonym82.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the punny kitty names: They are cute ^^
I also like the above reasoning if we're gonna translate Nekotalia, then why not Minitalia and Weaktalia? Not that there's anything wrong with Catalia. Cat-tail-lia heeee

[identity profile] pinoycruger.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What about the trivia parts previously in Rumbel fansubs? Because I wanted to see it.

[identity profile] pinoycruger.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Rumbel has the trivia bits on these episode of HWS. Or should I say references.

For example:

Episode 2: The Cat Festival in Ypres, Belgium
Episode 3: The GDP and trade deficits of Greece
Episode 4: The 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and Sakotis
Episode 8: The Battle of Waterloo reference.

That is all for now.

[identity profile] pinoycruger.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much.

[identity profile] kinsugi.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I apologize, but I dislike use of English; I do think using japanese phrasing such as "neko" is cute.

[identity profile] kinsugi.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But I have often been outnumbered in English-speaking fandoms! *haha*

[identity profile] atenias.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Please keep the nicknames you use (Itabby, Germouser). It is cute.

[identity profile] jedijenchan.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty picky when it comes to American based fandom names, as in, I don't like them, and in a way I feel it disrespects the original creator.

I clearly hear them saying "Italia-Neko" and "Doitsu-neko", so I'd use those as is. The argument could be made that you could use(for total cuteness factor) "Italia-kitty" or "Doitsu-kitty", but that stretching it for me.

What does the actual title in Japanese translate to? Does it translate to Neko-Hetalia? If so, use that.

If so, I'd be consistent is using either "cat", "kitty" or "neko" in these translation. For example, if your to name it Neko-Hetalia, then go with the "Italia-Neko" and "Doitsu-neko" subs.

English ;)

[identity profile] li-vox-il.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I love those names! I hate when people leave some things in japanese, it doesn't work for me. You should see this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoJ_BWQ9Kow (Rise and Fall of fansubs) He's right in most of the things he says

So it's Germouse, Itabby and Catalia for me ;)
