The time was around 22:30pm.

Now more than ever it was clear that it was night time. Only a few people dared to be outside at this hour, mainly young people, who enjoyed partying in Moscow’s night clubs. Songs could be heard from a good distance by passer by’s, as well as people who lived on said streets, where the clubs reside.

Two pair of footsteps tapped the ground. A happy couple was returning from a stroll in the park, their faces full of glee. Smiles etched on their features and pink blushes on their cheeks. Yes, Canada and Ukraine had spent a wonderful evening together. From dinner, to dancing and finally - their kiss in the park. Yes, it was a great time to be alive.

“Look at them, how happy they are. Not a care in the world anymore.” a voice could be heard from behind a corner. Bulgaria and Belarus observed the couple from a distance, still making sure things went right to the very end of it.

“That they are… They did quite a few things today.” Belarus muttered, still feeling depressed over thinking how she wanted Russia to treat her the same. No matter how many times she asked, begged and wanted him to love her back the way she did – he refused.

Bulgaria, having noticed her expression, knew full well what she was thinking of right now. He knew it well, having heard it multiple times in the past, during his Communist days and after that.

“We did the same things as them. We ate dinner together, we danced… Well, we didn’t have a kiss, but we were standing side by side like they were.” Bulgaria said to her, raising a brow.

Belarus closed her eyes. “It’s not the same. I paid for the dinner. You were mainly the one dancing. I was just standing on your shoes. And then… it was still different from them.” She replied.

“Oh Belarus…” Bulgaria shook with his head. Belarus put a hand in front of his mouth, pointing in a direction. Bulgaria followed her gaze and understood why she cut him off.

Canada and Ukraine had almost disappeared from sight.

“Damn, let’s get moving.” And with that, they followed them.

--

Canada and Ukraine walked for a while. The streets they were walking were getting more and more familiar, until the point where they could now see Russia’s house. It was easy to recognize from other houses, due to the weird feeling they got from looking at the building ahead.

“Well…” Matthew started.

“Well?” Ukraine repeated, asking.

“This is it. The final stage of the evening.” Matthew said with a sheepish smile.

Ukraine nodded. “Yes. It’s been a long evening.”

“A long one, but a good one.” Matthew replied, while the two were reaching their destination, getting closer and closer to the door.

“A very good one, Matthew.” Ukraine said with a cheerful tone, holding Matthew’s hand tight in hers. Matthew nodded and returned the grip with his own.

“Yeah, it was, wasn’t it?” he sighed lightly. “And like all good evenings it has to come to an end.” He frowned. He really didn’t want to have the night end just now, but he also didn’t want to impose himself on Ukraine.

“I-I would invite you in, but I don’t think Ivan would be too keen on the idea of having you over at such a late hour.” she frowned as well. “I’m sorry.”

Matthew shook with his head. “No, don’t be. I understand, Katiyusha.” The blond man replied.

The two were now in front of the door. They stopped and turned to look at one another again, for what would be the last time tonight.

“T-this was the best night of my life. Thank you.” Canada said with a happy expression on his face.

“It w-was for me as well, the best night of my life, Matthew. I thank you too.”

There was a silence. A long silence between them as they looked at each other. Matthew swore that he could lose himself in Ukraine’s eyes. So beautiful. So pure. So innocent. And Katiyusha felt the same over his smile. So lively, so honest and caring, trusting and accepting…

Matthew’s hands found their way on the sides of her waist, Katiyusha’s touching his shoulders. The two kissed once more, feeling the warmth of each other’s lips, their hearts beating fast and hard, happily.

After a short while they ended the kiss and Matthew watched Ukraine enter her brother’s house. They shared one final look.

“Goodnight, Matthew.” Ukraine said softly.

“Goodnight, Katiyusha.” Canada replied.
