[Hetalia skit]

So i just got back from Genki 2010 yesterday, and would like to share this AWESOME awesome act made by my friends.

They cosplayed Russia, Germany, Prussia and Poland, and their act was not one of those "haha lol" acts, but actually one that was more serious and deep. Heck, some ( a few i know ) cried. It in my opinion seriously is epic, and i'm really annoyed that their act didn't win >_<

So i would really just like to show you guys the act, and hope you will leave them a comment or fav it if you like it =)

EDIT: For those wondering about the flag ripping.

They had cut the flag in 2, and tapped it together if i'm not wrong, so it could be "torn" apart.

I know some might find this extreme, but wasn't the WW2 extreme? This act is meant to show the darker and more serious side of Hetalia. I have seen alot of Hetalia acts, and most of the time i've only seen some that go from "haha lol" to war themed without much depth or deeper meaning.

Hope people won't get too offended by their act.

I teared up myself while watching this. Very well made. I wish I was there to see it first hand. ;_;

Very well done . . . but did they really rip that flag? ._.

Oh . . . still, they cut it? -flails- I get why, but I still can't condone it.

God, that was so amazing, all the flag waving and body movements and fighting and Prussia and just everything. Seriously made me tear up, you guys are awesome. <33

This was undeniably very well choreographed, and I appreciate the fact that this was a serious skit which obviously had a lot of effort and thought put into it. It reminds me of a doujin I read, "1939", that deals exactly with this subject matter. Although Hetalia is presented in an amusing light obviously it deals with very serious subject matter.

Of course I am a little concerned over the tearing of the Polish flag in itself (I know you must be getting very tired of hearing this.) While it's obvious that your intention was not to disrespect the flag nor the country, each country has very strict rules governing the way a flag may be treated. I did a little research here (http://www.flags-flags-flags.org.uk/polish-flag.htm) which states that "The Polish flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit the Flag to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way".

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, just wanted to make sure that you were aware ^^. I hope I didn't offend you in any way.

Thank you very much for the praise.

We knew about the flag and that was probably our biggest concern, but we simply didn't know how to symbolize the partition of Poland in any other way that would give the same effect. Those rules goes for almost all countries, including our own, and I hope people from Poland and the rest of the world can bear with us and realize that none of us mean it in a disrespectful way. It's easy to say such things I know, but I really hope no one will get too offended by it and for those who does get offended, I'll apologize on everyone's behalf. It's always a dangerous thing to use flags in a show.

I am actually afraid to watch this.

The ripping of a flag is bad enough. Not because of the whole "Hetalia isn't a pink screen of fluffiness"...but because it is considered an act of disrespect for that country, regardless of your intentions.

Now, after reading these comments and understanding this was a Polish flag?....Did anyone in this group know about the current events of Poland? Ok, this is a very very touchy subject for me. This actually is making me cry alot. And I really don't want to put blame on anyone because I fully understand this was a....serious type of skit. However, this is too much. Poland has been through alot, also in the recent years. It is like doing the same thing to an American Flag two years after 9/11. (And actually even if someone were to do this now to an American flag, not only I, but a multitude of Americans would be enraged by this. Do you know how many people in other countries rip, burn, cut American flags to prove a statement?...No one in America condones that...what makes you think a Polish person would condone this?..And I am not talking about those who live in US...I am talking about the ones who actually live in their country!)

I am saying this in defense of my dear friends who live in Poland and are going through alot of shyt. Regardless of the reason behind it, it was still an act of disrespect. I cannot condone this either.

I'm from Poland, and although of course I can't speak for everyone, the act of ripping Polish flag in two was used in several Polish movies (most recently in Wajda's "Katyn") as a symbol of Partitions and Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, so I think it's one instance when it's not counted as a disrespect for the flag.

So as long as it isn't in disrespect, it is more or less okay?
I really hope it is, because it really, really wasn't for offending people, especially not polish people.

I am glad you are responding, eventhough it's pretty much against what I am saying. lol

But yeah, I understand the movies in a sense, although I probably wouldn't watch that movie ether for the very same reason.

I am highly patriotic/nationistic by nature. The irony of this is that I am a bit more tolerable when it comes to my own nation's flag. But for other flags, I get very nervous about. And it's a sad thing for me to see a flag being cut...regardless of the circumstance.

Even if Poland as a whole is ok with such a thing, I still wouldn't be ok with it. And it's totally alright that you feel differently. I just know that my friends in Poland share the opposite point of view. Maybe I should ask them what they think of the movie you stated.

But still, I am very weary of things like this. Especially if it's done on foreign soil.

Hetalia fandom as a whole has done some pretty awful things in the past few months. I wish people would just think before they do is all.

I understand your nervousness, I would probably feel the same if it was any other country, but I think it would be more offensive for your friends if you refused to watch "Katyn", because of the importance that this movie holds for Poles. I do agree with you that you should discuss it with them.

To tell you the truth, I'm personally opposed to doing any sort of Hetalified historical acts and, if circumstances have been different, I would also rage on the flag-ripping. It's only because of the symbolism involved that I decided to defend it.
