Hello ~ I've always wanted to cosplay, but I don't have the skills to create my own costume - so I cosplayed with the items I could pull out of my closet! Et voilà!





I was also wondering if people would be interested in creating their own out-of-the-closet cosplays. If you are, bookmark this page and snap a few photos! You're welcome to post them here ^^

LOL All of my (canon) Hetalia cosplays are closet cosplays. I'm amazed by the stuff I had just hiding in there.

Yes! You could be surprised by what's hiding in your closet! xD Although it's sometimes hard to do some characters because of their clothes (Austria's jacket, Belarus' dress, Japan's uniform.) Other countries like Alfred and Canada are easier ^^

Canada was ridiculously easy, and I'm disgusted by the options that I have for him. I'm a big tomboy, so I've got a lot of sports stuff lying around, and I was able to pull out a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey and a Toronto Blue Jays hat (I also like the color blue; putting together a Canada cosplay with NO RED in it amuses me). I have a t-shirt that says "Pancake Motherf^&%ers" (it's a reference to an old webcomic), and another that's got Bret Hart on it (Bret Hart was a WWF wrestler, back before the WWF became the WWE, and he was my favorite, lol. The Harts are a big-name wrestling family from Calgary).

Monaco was also really easy; I just had to buy a couple of new ribbons for her. White shirt, blue A-line skirt, thick white stockings and Mary Janes.

Casual!England was the first one I realized I had sitting in my closet: my beige work pants and black work shoes, (men's!) white dress shirt from marching band, green-striped sweatervest, and my old red tie. It's PERFECT.

And Seychelles, I just found the dress in a store one day, and I really liked it.

That's one of the reasons I like Hetalia cosplays: you've got a bit more leeway to do what you want with the character designs and make them your own. It's a lot easier when it's hard-and-fast, only one way to do it, but sometimes your resources are limited, so the casual versions are great options. :D

My personal little issues with buying official cosplay costumes are that they are usually really expensive D: I also don't have a sewing machine to attempt making one myself xD Thus, the casual cosplay was born! Hehehe.

I'm going to assume you've got a working pair of arms and hands: you can learn to hand-sew! It's a pain in the butt sometimes, and a little wonky, but you have so much more control, and the bragging rights when you're done! There's nothing like saying -- or the feeling! -- you created something with your own two hands. (I like to hand-sew. Is it obvious?)

I do know how to hand-sew ^^ I've just never tried making clothes before. Mainly I've done a few basic 2D plushies and a pillow, which doesn't involve patterns or measurements or anything like that. Patterns and measurement frighten me XD

Start with doll clothes. They're people-clothes but on a smaller scale, so you don't have to scare yourself about the fabric!

Closet cosplay is possibly the best kind of cosplay, speaking as someone who also can't make her own costume. Your Germany looks great!

Sadly, no. What I do for my pictures is I steal my boyfriend's Nintendo DSi, lol. It actually doesn't take half-bad pictures... it's just importing them, re-naming them and re-touching them... agh, my laziness gets the better of me! xD
