Funimation Hetalia Postcard Contest

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone else has entered Funimation's Hetalia postcard contest? I've decided to enter very last minute, and I've been busy making postcards.

When I watched Funimation's video, there seemed to be a lot of USUK, and since I'm submitting an Germany/Italy card, it made me kind of nervous. Still, I'm excited.

So what pairing/character cards did you submit? Do you think you'll win? What mediums did you use? I've only made one card so far, and it's in ink and color pencil (everything is hand-drawn.) So I'm curious about everyone else! :)

I haven't sent mine yet, but I made some! I need to finish up writing the messages on them. My handwriting is awful. I can't draw so I had to be creative with my decorating.

I did ones for France, Germany, and Austria/Hungary. For France and Germany I made copies of photos from my trip to Europe (a photo of the Eiffel Tower at night for France and a photo of the ruins of Heidelberg Castle for Germany) and painted watercolor flags, then glued both of those onto the cards I bought. For the Austria/Hungary one I used one of the non-obscene photos I took of my plushies to celebrate their wedding anniversary (June 8th).

I really doubt if I'll win. They don't look too professional because I procrastinated until...two days or so ago? I really don't care if I win or not, though. I just wanted to send support to Himaruya, especially for characters that I don't think will get as much.

Also yes I did make a couple Eric is King cards.

Ah, sorry for confusing you! It's just that I'm meticulous and weird and should have allowed myself more time to get it figured out since I knew I was going to do this since it was announced. Mine also involved running to Wal Mart to make copies of pictures, tracking down a guillotine to get them to size, etc, and any of that could've been a hangup and made it take too long, so I'm lucky things ran smoothly. I'm also known to be quick to panic.

I sent mine today...or yesterday, rather. I made one for Iceland, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and "Eric is King".
They aren't the best, though, chibi-like nations made with crayons. But they were fun to make, anyway!
I don't expect to win anything, since I'm underage and the cards aren't the best out there. I just wanted to send some!

[identity profile] kawaiisyringa.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, Iceland~!! :DD I like your choices of characters~ >w<
I've made a Norway+Iceland one ^-^ Finished it yesterday... but I don't like it anymore.. D:

And I still have to decide what I should write on it.. I don't know! ;__;
...btw.. are you allowed to put 3 characters on 1 card? =|

[identity profile] melloyellopocky.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, hehe. :D I like your choice, too!
I've seen cards with a group of nations, so I guess you could fit as many characters as possible on one card if you wanted to. X3

I don't plan on winning, but they have been fun to make so far! I love brainstorming ideas! I plan on making one for all of my favorite characters and maybe a USxUK one if I have time.

So far, we have used markers, colored pencils, and crayons. We bought some stickers (I bought USA ones to decorate my Eric is King card) at the store and I have some glitter and colored paper at my house, so I'm going to start using those, too.

Mod here

Hi there, please don't forget to tag your post!

[identity profile] aurezai.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I made 3 cards so far, but I haven't sent them. I don't care about winning the contest, so I'm not worried. I find this a great opportunity to send Himaruya my art~

So far: HRE/Chibitalia, America + Mochimerica + Tony, group shot with the Italy brothers, Spain, and Germany. Planning to draw another group shot with Hungary, Prussia, and Austria.

Not coloring them, but I inked them with a craptastic sharpie pen. <_<

[identity profile] kimhana.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... Let's see, I've only really finished one card so far, and it's of Russia in front of St. Basil's cathedral.
I do plan on making a whole bunch more, though. HRExChibitalia, Germany, Italy, Spain, and maybe Gerita and Austria/Hungary cards also if I can find enough materials for them. Oh, and an "Eric is King" card too, obviously~ lol.

[identity profile] kimhana.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
uuuaghgagh I just remembered that I'll be in Florida when the Aug. 6th deadline rolls over ;w;
Do any of you guys know a way that I can mail things from a hotel? orz

[identity profile] haylerzz.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems they are giving out one prize for each of the axis and allies countries, one for all other individual characters, and one for groups and pairings. I bet groups and pairings is definitely getting the most entries!

I sent in one for North Italy with my cosplay pictures and one for both the Italy brothers with paper cut outs. Actually both of mine were featured in the first video (witch made my lol!) but I'm sure a million more have been sent in since so I don't really plan on winning.

I still think the coolest part of this contest is getting to write to Himaruya- and also knowing that Funimation actually cares about us fans!

[identity profile] ichii-lemoncat.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, the deadline is really approaching, isn't it? Yikes! I made an Italy one, a Germany one, a SuFin one, and I'm planning more if I can ever finish them! Contrary to the first response here, I'm no good at designing, so I'm trying to make my cheezy style make up for it. I'm too young to win anyway!

[identity profile] ichii-lemoncat.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
SuFin is just so sweet and almost canon, I had to thank Himaruya for that! And my style, it switches from being more cartoony to being more anime, but it's never really serious or beautiful, and I wish it could be. So therefore I call it cheezy >w>

[identity profile] maikyaera.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm too young to win and I can't really draw, so I'm just doing to do a lame Eric is King one and a SuFin one and Iceland if I have time. I'm focusing a lot more on the letter part than the decorating.. and I can't win anyway so yeah :D

[identity profile] latostadora.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm currently painting a Spain and Romano one, then after I'm going to attempt one with Prussia in it.

[identity profile] xjaden-yuki.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I was thinking too. .-.
-is only 15-

If they ask for like a picture or something everyone will just grab a random pic of someone who looks 18+. :V

[identity profile] xjaden-yuki.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Funimation: *stares* You don't look 18.

Me: Oh ho ho~ Thank you.

Funimation: That's not what I meant.

[identity profile] wakalakaosaka.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't even started mine :D

Planning to send in one FrUK card, one RoChu card made by my sister, and one card featuring the North American brothers. As for mediums, most likely with markers or colored pencils

[identity profile] xjaden-yuki.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only made two cards so far, but I'm totally trying to get three more done. OTL

So far I have an England, America, Canada card colored in with markers and colored pencils along with a Japan card in a poorly imitated ink and wash paint style. ;;>.>

[identity profile] kagekitsunea.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm working on mine I've got a pack of 25 5"x8" index cards and they will all be decorated. so far i've got 4/25 done

[identity profile] kagekitsunea.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
oh as far as medium printer and sharpies, mine are collages

[identity profile] laurama.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I just sent mine in the post the other day~ I did three, all CGed in photoshop and then printed on glossy photo paper.

I did one Canada-centric one with Matthew in a mountie uniform and as much Canadiana around in the background as possible, one NA Bros and one with Holland and Canada. They're online here:

http://laurama.deviantart.com/art/True-North-170934575
http://laurama.deviantart.com/art/Fast-Food-Nation-165049448
http://laurama.deviantart.com/art/Trans-Atlantic-Tulips-171848598

I had the fleeting hope that Himaruya-san would receive mine and maybe some other mountie Canadas and draw one of his own, and then he posts his incredible mountie Canada CG the other day. So happy!

I highly doubt they'll win anything, but I don't care about the prizes, I just wanted to send Himaruya-san love <3

I'm going to send maybe two in...But I haven't really gotten to it ><. Will be doing that today! I want to make one of Japan and then maybe one with S. Italy and Spain.

[identity profile] alaine-bonnefoy.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
My Friend and I both made France cards...
I used cutout stickers, and screencaps from google. I also put a picture of my self in my Traditional!France costume on the back.

And winning would be fun (is over 18) but I really just want to express my love for the series

[identity profile] antoinettedoggy.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I sent in like, five Dx I have too much time...
FACE, Japan, Italy, Britannia Angel, and an ERIC IS KING card. Hand drew them all because I hate using glue 8D

[identity profile] renaika56.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I made 2, tried to send them in today but my evil non-Anime loving sister lied to me about what time the mail comes.
So I'm gonna have to send them tomorrow.

Would you believe I'm going to be 18 on Aug. 18th too? Not that I'll win because mine are half-assed crap, but still. Day's before I turn 18.
It's just, so wrong to me.

Anyway mine's of America.
It's nothing special really, so I won't bother describing it.
I told my mom to go out and please buy me little postcards and she bought me 4 x 6 notecards... so at least I was able to write straight on the back.
*sloppy hand writing*

Blah, yeah.

And the other says "ERIC IS KING" on it.

[identity profile] inastr8jacket.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm making eight cards: North Italy, America, Japan, France, Spain, Prussia, China, and Finland. I'm using pencils entirely, entirely handdrawn. Mine are really tiny compared to everyone else's. They're like... 3"x5". All the ones I've seen are the max size XD

Don't think I'll win, but I don't mind. The real point I'm doing this is to send something to Himaruya ;___;
Gonna give them in at Otakon, which is a week away. Thankfully, I'm almost done.

Don't want to derail this post, and I'm not sure if it's still active, but can anyone uh... give me an example of what they wrote on the back? You don't need to give me a word-for-word, just a general idea.

[identity profile] soraryuu.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm making a few. One is a hand drawn LietPol, another is a collage of all my APH cosplays, and after that I want to do one with pics of some APH crafts I've done. I think I also want to send one with a drawing of Wy and tell Himaruya to put her in the comic more!

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda like how I mentioned Nyotalia on my Germany card? ='D

[identity profile] walking-nose.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I sent in three cards~ England, China, and my OC India (since they said OC's were allowed...I believe). I know I won't win since I just did the England one in crayon, and for China I just made a collage of pictures and stuck a picture of him in there. But it's neat knowing Himaruya will get them, even though he'll probably spend about 1.3 seconds looking at each since he'll get a whole boxload of them |D

[identity profile] narwhal123.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I made a UsxUk card~
And I also made an Eric Is King card, complete with flowers and rainbows and hamburgers.

[identity profile] narwhal123.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
The video where Funi told us how to make the cards and where to send them and stuff, Eric Whats-his-face, the VA for America, was there, and when they asked him to make a sample card, he wrote "ERIC IS KING" in big letters. Then they told everyone not to send those, because they wouldn't ship them to Himaruya.

[identity profile] caitlinneko.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm doing some Hetalia events this weekend at a con, so I bought a pack of 5x8 cards, to give to people to write on, and promote the contest. :D I plan on doing one Dambolis, one 'Eric is King', and maybe one or two others, but I haven't decided yet. I'm a god awful artist, so.

[identity profile] caitlinneko.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
From the Sealand joke comic, where Sweden puts Sealand in a box! It's easier to draw than anyone else, haha. (Plus, I was inspired by Vale's comments about putting all the fans in a box. :B)
