Cosplay Question

So, uhm, wig problems! I figure if anyone knows how to style a wig, it's you guys. See, I need to straighten a wig, but not like THE WHOLE WIG.

My boyfriend recently got the wig he's using for his Prussia cosplay for Anime Expo cut, but we are encountering 2 problems.

1. If he cuts it any shorter, the mesh shows.

2. Parts of the wig stick out funny.

As you can see in this crappy phone picture (I edited his face out because he wasn't too keen about being plastered on the internet. Too bad. He's got some bitchin' red contacts we bought from a Mexican lady for 20 dollars. But I digress) there are bits on the side of the wig that stick out funny. My original idea was "they're sort long anyway, cut the f*ckers off," but according to him and the hairdresser who cut the wig, any shorter and the mesh would start showing/ the hair fibers wouldn't weigh enough to lay down properly and would stick up even MORE.

I'm like 5 states away right now on vacation, so I'm taking his word for it, but the sides can't be cut, so our next option is to style them down/straighten them, whatever. Every site I've been to either shows you how to style the whole wig or just touch up the existing style, and in this case we don't want either. Every site also has about 500 bolded things that you Must Not Do to your wig, so I've been a little wary telling him to do anything, and I figure the good people of the Hetalia community would know better than anybody how to fix problem areas. (:

tl;dr: How do we get those sticky-outy bits to behave on a synthetic wig?

OH P.S. Which looks better for graying his eyebrows: temporary color spray or baby powder? Which lasts longer? How do we make them last longer, etc.

God I'm long-winded.

P.P.S. He let me post a picture of him with his contacts. Idk why, but I find them amazing just because I've never seen party colored contacts in person before >> /RAMBLERAMBLE. A LINK FOR GREAT JUSTICE
