summary: my head!canon for Spain discovering Puerto Rico.

The Taino people were a peaceful race that had come from South America and lived in clan-based settlements on the island which they called Boriquen. The island was later named "Puerto Rico" which means "rich port" by the Spaniards. In present day it is a commonwealth of the United States, but it is its own culture so I decided to make a character for it. Also, I am Puerto Rican of mostly Spanish descent so I've been itching to make an OC to represent my heritage for a while now.


It was ridiculously hard to figure out what Spanish people would have worn in the 1490s, too! Oh Spain, your outfit... I don't even...

very cute!! i love the middle spain expression :} and i'm glad you portrayed him so sweetly, i've seen so many comics/fics where spain is just like an evil monster when it comes to his other colonies.

It's my favorite, too! Evil!Spain makes sense in some cases as the conquistadors were pretty ruthless in their search for gold and for the fountain of youth that was rumored to be in the new world, but PR was discovered by Columbus and not Cortes so in my head it was a much more peaceful exchange.

I really like what you did with PR-tan, she's so adorable! *sigh* She's the only part of my heritage I know about with any degree of certainty (LOL AMERICANS) so I wish she were a nation-tan quite often.

(I'm only heritagologically -- yes, I made up a word -- Puerto Rican, but I can trace to Spain. Unfortunately, that was a good five generations ago, so I don't think it counts anymore. XD)

I hope that one day she gets to be one because unlike the states, it is very much like going to a different country. The US really just owns it, but hasn't made it... a true part of it. I mean, they can't vote for President there. I don't think. I can't remember.

Well, no, because only the states (and recently, DC) can. Puerto Rico's not a state so they can't vote BUT they don't have to pay federal income taxes, either. And Puerto Rico's not the only United States territory (I use the word loosely). *&c., other knowledge and learnings go here*

But yeah, it's gorgeous there, and I really need to go back one day. *_*

she's cute,though i would never think PR would be a girl but thats just what i think lol.Also i believe thats what the spanish would wear around that time so i believe you have it right :D.

(Is a fellow puerto rican too,though of french and spaniard descendent,i think the spaniard part comes from the intermarriage that went on with the indians.)

I did as much research as I could, and it's based on bits and pieces. I just didn't think it would have been so hard to look up Spanish Renaissance fashions!

Well in my head!canon she's a girl because then Spain takes her back to his house (Columbus took some Taino to show the king and queen) and then Romano meets her and is really jealous for a while at the attention she's getting so he acts out more than usual. 8D

I was born there but my family moved to the mainland US when I was 18mos old so I don't have a PR accent, but instead a southern one. :B But they did try to keep lots of traditions in our family, anyway.
