[Discussion] Question for some of you guys

Hi there dear community!

I've been wondering this and the idea wouldn't let me so I have to ask... (I hope I'm not breaking any rule by doing this)

This question is for the people who have their country appearing in Hetalia (may it be like a sketch or in the strips, etc)....

So you guys, how do you felt when you first saw your country appearing in Hetalia? What were you first thoughts about him/her? did you dislike them? Did you love them?... and how did the perception of the character changed for you as you continue watching the series or reading the strip? (has it changed at all?)

Just in case, don't start any character bashing please >>U

I'm sorry if this question may discrimante people whose country doesnt appear in Hetalia yet (but mine hasnt so I dont see why it's a problem)

if this is not allowed please delete it!

I laughed at America.

His personification is perfect.

I was a bit angry at first for how they made russia. If I owned hetalia, Russia would be a thin, white haired man with a cold attitude.

Russia's "cruel childishness" was America's propaganda of the Red Scare, when in fact, Russia was scared of America as well. I'm used to it now, though.

Basically, they made Russia too evil than he would have been.

I absolutley love America. He's hilariously spot-on. [:

Well, when I first saw it, every episode was like a giant facepalm. Like, "Omg, he's such an idiot, and what a fatass." (America btw, lol) But as I got more into the fandom, I've totally fallen in love with him. I think it was probably the fanart and fanfiction that made me love him, even his canon self. He's an adorable idiot.

sometimes I find Feliciano Insulting to me. (Especially my mother). Its strange. Especially his stupidity, that's what pisses me off the most.

Yes! Russia isn't evil! XD Yay someone who agrees! I can't wait to visit there eventually.

Spanish fan here.
I have to say I'm very, VERY happy about the lack of bullfighting references (besides that drawing of Spain in a matador outfit, but I don't really mind that one... ahem). People from other countries seem to think all Spaniards love bullfighting, but that is a huge lie. Ah, but I digress...
I think it's SO fitting how cheery and sunshine-y he is. I don't know how to explain it, it just... fits. Although we're not THAT dense xD.

fff, why do i always end up rambling?

The only problem I had with Poland was "why is he blonde?" My mother and grandparents and sister all asked the same thing because we - and our entire family back in Poland - all have very dark hair.

I actually always liked his personality though, valspeak and all, mostly cos it's a lot how I act. My mother was mad though. She hates the "Polish people=idiots" stereotype as do I, but I don't think Poland is idiotic so much as just ditzy.

At first I disliked France. Because... why isn't he complaining all the time? why isn't he on strike? and why is he all whiny? we're not all pervert! and what the hell with his surname, France isn't a religious country? *French rant*

But then he grew up on me. I don't know how. There's really more in him than the perverted side - he is serious and wise, whatever he makes people believe. And even though, I think he embodies well the way France likes to shine and attracts attention.
But sometimes, he's still a bit too 50's to my taste :p.

I found America as spot on stereotype wise.

And I don't know if this counts (because it was just a map) but when Mexico was mentioned my initial thought was "What the fuck? That's not how you spell Mexico! *slightly peeved*"

I liked America from the start. He's just...America. Just everything I like about America in human form I suppose.

Hello, there~! :D
Or, should I say "Ciao~!" because I'm Italian? XD
Ve~
When I first saw Hetalia, I thought that North Italy represented all of Italy. I thought he was absolutely adorable! And he acts just like me!!! (I love Pasta!!! And I can cook all different kinds because it is my favorite thing to cook!!!) XD
[[My great-grandfather also served in World War II, on the Axis Powers. But, he didn't want to fight, so he surrendered. He then got placed in an English camp. He said the food was really bad! XD Oh, Iggy...]]
But then I saw Romano, representing South Italy, and I'm South Italian (1/4 Calabrese, 1/6 Napoletano, and the rest is Sicilian. lol.) And I thought he was amazing, as well! I cracked up laughing when he told Spain that he was going to pee on his house, because Italians do that. Yeah, we're odd people... I also love tomatoes, and I grow a lot of them in my garden every year. So, whenever I go out and pick my tomatoes, I will think of Romano!
However, I guess I'm considered "Italian-American" as well, since my family moved to America before I was born. I was still raised as an Italian in my house. Because of this, my friends and neighbors think we're odd. Haha!! But that is normal in America since there are a whole bunch of different cultures mixed together. (I was almost Italian-Canadian, since they lived in Québec for a few years before moving to upstate New York. NOT the city; I live in the rural mountainous region of New York state that no one pays much attention to unless they want to go pick apples... But I have relatives that used to live in New York city.)
While some find Americans rude and violent, I like America's nice-guy, clueless hero character. He makes me smile! :D
And, while I've lived in the United States my whole life, I've never eaten a Hamburger. (I don't eat meat. I'm a vegetarian. But, when I was little, I used to eat meatballs and chicken parmigiana.)
I like America's HERO personality because that's how Americas are. Americans are also really funny! Seriously, we have ENTIRE TELEVISION CHANNELS dedicated to comedy. All Americans have a sense of humor. And we're more peace-loving than violent. The government just has a bad reputation... I blame George Bush!
Also, a few months ago, my grandmother and I did some research and found that we had ancestors from Spain, Germany, and Africa! It was a reeeeeally long time ago, though; like 1700s and 1800s. But it's still cool!
(I also think it's funny that I'm Italian and have ancestors from Spain and Germany. lol. MY HERITAGE IS CANON! *shot*)

I appreciate America's characterization for what it's supposed to be, but I still can't freakin' stand him. I wanted to. I tried. If anything was going to get me to like him, I thought it would be the Storage Cleaning arc, but it didn't. I've tried looking for the good, too, and I can't find one thing I like about him.

I feel like this makes me a terrible person. ._.

[identity profile] maikyaera.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind America, but it's kind of annoying how he is because that's how /everyone/ would stereotype America. I dunno.. it just seems kind of not creative.

[identity profile] mistakentrekkie.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it doesn't. I don't like him at all either.

[identity profile] hollyftw.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
First thought of my country: WTFEYEBROWS.

[identity profile] mogumogu.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
America is a walking punchline sometimes, so we deserve all we can get sometimes. Hetalia's America is still lovable, though.

It struck me as a little odd that America would have glasses, because they tend to mean "intellectual," and that isn't the vibe the country is letting off right now (on the contrary, we're proud of being the exact opposite), but maybe he needs glasses because he's so short sighted?

[identity profile] mystofthestars.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I feel the Italies are just... too much, even for italians. (even if the initial "pastaaaaaa" is just epic)
I mean some things and stereotypes can be true, but some others aren't at all. Like, what's with him being naked half of the time?!
But a part from that, I grew to love them both.

Anyway, I would say that sometimes it's north italians are more bitchy to southern than viceversa. But, uhm, I guess it depends.

I laughed until I cried when I first saw America in the strips. He is amazing and all the horrible stereotypes of what a terrible American is all rolled into one burger-eating fool. It's not what the U.S. is, but it's a recognized stereotype with certain elements of truth.

The colonial ones make me squee at his cute little self (partly in an effort to overcome the general "WTF?" reaction I have to the historical inaccuracies of those strips).

My love for the character continues to grow because I don't take it seriously.

I do wish there wasn't such a big deal made about England and the American Revolution---they don't even really teach children about it over there because it was not something like the beginning of the end. England's poor heart was not shattered back then with the loss of just one cranky colony.

I did quite like Norway the first time I saw him, but I didn't really like that he doesn't show much expressions and has a kinda "cold" attitude, 'cause I don't think all of we norwegians are like that (mostly norwegians I knew aren't really like that)
But after some time I didn't really care about it so much anymore x)
