Questions about Austria O___o;
Just found this while skimming Austria's biography here.
1) "It's implied that Gilbert and Roderich are both living in Ludwig's house." Wait... Beyond "for the lulz", why is that? o.o; I understand why Gilbert would be there, but doesn't Roderich have his own house? The wording of that sentence makes it seem like it's modern time... but I suppose it could also refer to when Roderich lived with Ludwig during the two World Wars?
2) "In a character note, it says he spent some time in a wheelchair." WHY?! ;A; The poor baby!
3) It says elsewhere (in N.Italy or Hungary's biography, I think) that Roderich and Elizaveta raised Italy to adulthood together after HRE left the house. Is there actual historical basis for that or is that just a Hetalia quirk to keep the HRE "family" together? O.o; I'm not complaining because I love that little "family", but it's just interesting that N.Italy doesn't really mention how they're his adoptive parents, aside from simply living with Austria in his childhood.
4) Where in the manga does it reveal that Austria is afraid of marine animals? XD;;; I really want to read this, but I'm having a hard time finding it!

1) Yes it would seem to imply the period of the Anschluss during World War 2 between Germany and Austria
2) I'm guessing it maybe refers to the fact that the Austrians were beat up quite alot during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.
3) There are quite a few North Italians who can claim to have some Austrian/Germanic blood in them because for a while some of the Northern Italian states were kinda absorbed as part of the Habsburg Empire or something eg. Tyrol- half of it is now Austrian and half of it is Italian. So in a sense Italy was "part" of Austria for quite some time. Hungary was probably thrown into the mix due to its unofficial marriage to Austria which wasn't official until 1867.
4) It hasn't been stated yet, but I'm sure being a land-locked country he'd be scared of anything marine-related...that or his delicate sensibilities are kicking in :D

2) Ahhh... It's just odd that it'd be shown in such an extreme manner, I guess, considering how many countries are beat up in Hetalia and seem to be fine the next day. ^^; Thanks for clarifying. Or maybe Roderich is just fragile. 8D
3) Ah yes, I remember reading this on the HRE Wiki page way back in the day. That's also why Ludwig says that him and N.Italy share common blood, isn't it? That's cool to know. ^^
4) PHHHHT It's probably a mixture of both. xD; I don't recall seeing other land-locked countries freaking out over crabs (like Switzerland, but I guess he doesn't get freaked out over much).

2. Austria traditionally is seen as being better at diplomatic alliances (and therefore marriages lol) than being a strong military power...that title goes to the Prussians in the Germanic region XD
3. I have an Italian friend who has Austrian blood in him and it always amuses me when I think about it in Hetalia terms!

2) HEHE Of course he would be better with words than with swords. xD Sometimes he WAS quite good at winning wars, but him and Prussia just... yeah. Poor baby!Germany, I always imagined him cowering somewhere as his brother and Austria squabble over him, lol.
3) Hahaha, really? I have a 100% Italian family that I'm good friends with (they're living in the U.S., but almost everything in their house is imported) that has a German-born/bred/trained dog that only understands German commands. It amuses me. 8D Ah, where would we be without Hetalia to make life more entertaining than it already is, hahaha.

No they weren't. Not at all.
(the national German army which is distinguished from the Nazis somewhat)
That's right, because the army constisted of ordinary german (and austrian etc.) men (as in 'everybody who could carry a weapon'), not only of brown shirts.

I'm not sure about more recent history though. <<; I can't say that it interests me.
2) Maybe he got some serious ass-kicking?
3) Uhm, the history of the HRE is a bit complex so... well... There was a time, after Charles the Great had died, where there were three kingdoms that formed the HRE. Just because Charles decided to split the realm into three, because he had three sons (which was kinda stupid). The first kingdom was more or less France, Belgium, the left half of the Netherlands and a tiny bit of Spain. The second kingdom was some kind of... "stripe". It contained the other half of the Netherlands and then went straight down to the Mediterranean Sea, containing Switzerland, Austria and North Italy (It's a bit hard to explain it ^^;). The third Kingdom contained most of the modern day Germany (without Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and a tiny part of Hungary.
But now back to the question. Those three brothers fought against each other because they wanted to conquer each other. Now, the brother of the kingdom in the middle lost the "stripe" part to his brothers and the only thing that was left for him, was Switzerland, Austria, and North Italy. Though this is all very early, about the 8th century, so I don't know if this really answers your question.
And, uhm, later on Austria conquered Hungary, so that she would live with him in the same house. Italy was just already there.

2) That's what everyone's saying, yeah. ^^;
3) O___________________o; Whoa, I didn't know that. That's pretty crazy stuff, thanks for letting me know!

And yeah, the "living in Ludwig's house" thing is a WWII thing. It's probably in present tense because the main storyline is WWII, so, even though we don't get much of the main storyline, it's technically supposed to be the common present time in Hetalia.
A lot of people are confused about the wheelchair thing, myself included. And I hadn't heard the "afraid of marine animals" thing before, but that is kind of hilarious.

Roderich was indeed a jerk about the pasta thing, but maybe he had this whole "must remain slim and fit" thing going on...Ah yeah, I do remember Ludwig vaaaguely thinking something like that. ^^;Ah, true true.
Hahaha according to other people that just commented on this entry, the marine animals thing is from one of the first drama CD's where Austria admitted that he didn't like going outside (and hated marine animals at the same time). Hence why there are random drawings of people (usually Prussia) chasing after Austria with a crab.

Plus, Boun San Valentino. . .well, I always thought that was in present and he lived and slept in his house in that. Then again, he also told Prussia he'd send things he didn't want to his house, implying that he doesn't. . . .
And in the strip with Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Prussia, Prussia made it sound like Roderich was responsible for making breakfast/dinner and such when he told him to stop serving leftovers for breakfast--serving implying Roderich wasn't the only one eating.
Basically it is as it says--it's implied. Gilbert has pretty much been confirmed to live with Germany. Austria, however, seems to switch from living with him and not present day--then again, we don't have timestamp things for a lot of the strips, so it could just be the Anschluß making them live together.
2) It was never stated, although, like
The other two are pretty much the same as what

Yeah, the implication was mentioned when I looked around. Apparently Prussia's blogs from the manga also mention that he was living together with his brother and Roderich. Frankly, I'm surprised Ludwig's house didn't get burned down somehow. :/

"I'd rather stay here. I'm hungry, can you get me some cake?"
"Go ho--"
"/gets phone, like he's going to call Italy"
"/Grumbles, goes off to get the cake"
They do. He said to clean his room and stop leaving his things in the living room, he told him to come home and help him clean the house, when Switzerland came over to discuss business in the CD Germany was also there, he said in the blog that Germany went to sleep and that he'd go to sleep soon, too. . . . Plus when he spilt ice cream on his laptop there was a pic at the end with Germany staring at it like "You have got to be kidding me, Bruder. . . .".
It probably has. Either it regenerated because nations' houses seem to be special and dependent on certain factors of the country itself(size, wealth, etc) or Germany and Prussia fixed it again.

I do hope Italy says or remember something about them ^^.
I'm sorry I didn't really answer any of your questions ;^;.

1) Roderich was living in Ludwigs house after the Anschluss in 1938. But they're not living together anymore.
2) Probably because after WWI the mighty empire collapsed and turned Austria in a tiny country. That was actually a very traumatic event and a lot of people lost their trust in their country back then and said that Austria will not be able to keep living and will die >_<
3) Uhh...pretty much that what everybody else said here 8D''
4) Uhh...I don't know XD But probably because Austria is a landlocked country without sea. Also what Kayu_Blossom said is true :)
Meat is very popular, you usually eat fish only on Friday (well, at least we do that xD)

2) Oh geez. DDD: Yeah, I've definitely noticed that even while skimming through maps. Austria and its empire used to be HUGE, and now it's one of the smaller countries in Europe. Poor Austria. D:
4) Hahaha that's cute. xD; I guess it does cost more to import it from the seas and stuff.
no subject
But I'm pretty sure the wheelchair story refers to that what happened after WWI, since Austria was really close to die at that time ;°;
4) Uh, I dunno, but I guess so :D
I think we mostly get our fish from Canada or from the Nordic countries (like Norway), but we also have pisci culture here :)

4.) It's not in the manga, only in the audio drama. They're stuck on an island, and Austria complains that he prefers to view nature through a window, not personally experience it (or something to that effect). Then Italy shows him a crab (I think? maybe something else?) and Austria literally runs away screaming. Because it's an audio-drama-only incident, people have speculated how "canon" it really is. (To be honest, I always found it, at least the screaming in terror, a bit...OOC, even by Austria's posh standards. <_< It's much too undignified. XD) Hope the response isn't too late and hope that helps! :D

2. When I first read the wheelchair thing, I automatically assumed "OMG WWI OMG Treaty of St. Germain OMG OMG INTERWAR TRAUMA." The collapse of Austria-Hungary/the Austrian Revolution was...intense. And the Republic of Austria was pretty unpopular because it was financially and economically destitute, very few people had any hope that it would survive for long; the fact that the Republic lasted as long as 15 years (before Dollfuss took over and went pseudo-fascist) is kind of surprising. I mean it was called "the state no one wanted" among other degrading names. :(
3. Italian history is fairly confusing, since back in the day it was a bunch of individual states, some of which spent a while under Austrian control. Since Austria's had bits and pieces of Italy from the 1500's through WWI, it kind of makes sense to have the family setting. Most rebelled from Austria in the Italian Independence Wars from 1848-1866 and united (I think Himaruya briefly mentioned this somewhere). Finally Austria lost the bits he still had control of after WWI.
4. Maybe it's because Austria doesn't have an ocean? XD I dunno, he doesn't seem like a "hang out at the beach" kind of guy. Or anything that could be out of his comfort zone.
The last Question
