Question: Teen!America cowboy outfit?

So I don't know if this is allowed, and if not, please delete.

So, I'm sure everyone has seen the pictures of teen!america in the cowboy outfit, right? Ok. then my question is this. The American cowboy did not appear until the late 19th century, long after America gained independence from England. So why is teen!America running around in cowboy gear? Westward expansion hadn't even really started at that time...

Ahh...sorry if this is a dumb question, but it's been bugging me for some time. thanks for any help! :D

A rip in the fabric of space and time itself, courtesy of Brittania Angel.

Actually I have no idea and have wondered this myself.

That would make some warped kind of sense.

I heard somewhere it was just a pic for Children's Day. So...for the cute?

The author drew it for Children's Day last year. There were a few others, so it's not really canon timeline wise? And the Timeline is just really warped. XD

I heard somewhere that the West was where America supposedly grew up. Maybe it has something to do with that?

[identity profile] kakkobean.livejournal.com 2010-05-04 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
When America expanded out into the West, he had a massive fit of childish glee--and that de-aged him for a bit. It was a spectacle of AMAZING, and all of the countries around the world marveled at how it could have possibly occurred. Hungary took pictures. Japan came for World Fairs. England got extremely possessive. Germany wanted to do tests.

...Aaaand then WWI happened and America got older again. >.>

It's just a picture he drew. He drew a bunch of characters as younger versions of themselves in period clothing he found that he liked. So teen!America isn't really running around in it, as much as Hidekaz just thought it would be cute to put him in it. I think the intent was just 'it's children's day, so I'm drawing younger characters in clothes that are well known from their country.'

Teen America is not the only one that's incorrect. Hidekaz notes that France's outfit is from the Napoleonic era. And France was certainly older than he was in that picture at that time.

Am I the only one who doens't find that Alfred much different than the Alfred from the Revolution? out of uniform and not so serious, he doesn't seem different. Maybe it IS about times after that...(but obviously before Texas)

It has been demonstrated in several strips that the Countries aren't bound by time the way we are. America's Laptop anyone? America in particular seems to take advantage of that, using personal items of his that the technology for wouldn't be invented for several decades. It wouldn't surprise me if Teen!America had the same ability and a fondness for the clothes.

[identity profile] zumie-ashlen.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
The countries are actually LARPing Time Lords.

[identity profile] laurama.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps the outfit came first, but England made a fuss. America wore it later in life to spite him.

England: America, you're 14 years old. You're far too young to be wearing leather chaps.
America: You're not the boss of me!!
*War of Independence ensues*

In my head-canon, I don't think America should have been portrayed as an adult when the War of Independence took place. The nations are supposed to be kids for a loooong time, so I think that if anything, America should have still been a young adult, or teenager.
Thus, he would still look young during the 19th century. America is a young country, but he grew up fast! That's why he's so tall. :I
