Hetalia Officially Announced by Tokypop!

Even though we knew it was already! http://assets.tokyopop.com/PressReleases/Hetalia_Press_Release.pdf Thoughts about hetalia being licensed? I'm extremely excited! Tokyopop also talks about the whole Korea-Hetalia controversy. Not much of it though!Tokyopop will also be giving away Hetalia merch. They say to stay tuned~

I knew something was up when it said it was licensed by Tokyopop on Amazon. 8|a

Let's hope they don't fuck it up or leave out the FUCK box... don't mind me, I'm just a pessimist.

I don't get why so many people were upset that it was Tokyopop who did the licensing. I mean, I'm aware they do some less then agreeable things now and again, but who doesn't? And someone is usually better then no one.

Maybe it has to do with price? Tokyopop's mangas are quite expensive compared to other publishers. Especially if you live Canada like me. A book that may $9.99 in the US may cost at least $12 or $13.00 dollars. And that's without the taxes. D: That's my main reason for not wanting Tokyopop.

Some others complain of translation errors but I don't enough manga to care.

Seeing as Tokyopop has been ok with their recent manga releases I don't mind them doing it.

I admit I'll always be kind of "hmmmm" about any potential Tokyopop release until it comes out and I can judge for myself, but I'm glad they addressed some of the controversy/touchiness in their press release! and the polish joke killed me

Oooh, neat! I mean, we already knew it, but it is nifty to hear it officially. That little article was funny, it looks like they know what they are getting into. I don't think we should worry too too much.

Oh yay, more reason for non-fans to believe there are no girls and the boys are all straight out of a Yuu Watase manga! Sigh.

I know, that pinged me too. Darnit, there ARE female characters, and they're pretty popular in the fandom too. X(

Still, I'll buy it because I love reading physical books, and I want to support Himaraya. Tokyopop's gotten decent with their translations, so I'm not extremely worried--I remember the days when they changed people's genders around, so censoring won't raise an eyebrow for me nowadays. :D

meh... just as long as I have a physical translated Hetalia in my hands it's all good

I'm pretty delighted that they acknowledged Hetalia Day. Makes it look that much more official lmao.

There's always that part of me that's gonna be nervous about the quality and translations... But heck I'm still so happy we're getting an English release of the manga. At least I'll actually be able to have my own physical copy.

I really hope they don't kill this translation. Tokyopop sometimes does very bad things to manga...

Well, it's finally happening...let's hope for the best.
Still, I'll buy the first volume, because I like reading hard copies of things.
Looking forward to the release!

I have to agree with some of Hetalia-fans here who had been worried about Tokypop translation, they don't really have the best reputation when it comes to it. Anyway as long as the third volume arrives soon and none of these pages censored like in anime, I would be very happy!

My hopes went up when they said they were working closely with FUNimation...maybe Tokyopop won't do such a bad job after all...?

That's what I'm hoping as well. Hopefully a bit of what FUNimation is doing will rub off on them.

It has potential. However potential can go either way. I think I will wait until I see the product until I judge it.

The press release is another story. Although there is nothing in it that is untrue. Some of the information seems strange to use as "selling points'. *Buy this manga: It's a racist, sometimes hard-to-follow political history series* O.k., that might get *me* curious; but I'm a great big weirdo. YMMV.
