[fanart] Dark History series
Happy Birthday to Switzerland! I would post a Switzerland picture, but through some trial and errors, I have come to realize that Switzerland is someone who falls apart in my hands when I attempt to draw him.
So, here are a couple more Tegaki E pictures. Sorry about how rough and unclean they look. So much yellow.
These are part of the Dark History series, which...well, unfortunately portrays the nations in their darkest light (does that make sense?) or negative things that happened to them.
Please do not be offended by anything that I draw? Sorry?? I'm actually really nervous about putting these up O_O
Title: DARK HISTORY series
Author/Artist:
youkofujima
Character(s) or Pairing(s): A whole mixed bag. Russia (there's a LOT of Russia), Lithuania, Spain, Japan, Taiwan and HK
Rating: PG-13 to R, for violence and blood
Warnings: Dark History. Images of war, violence, blood, insanity, etc. Also, IMAGE HEAVY. Full of sketchiness, because of Tegaki E skills.
Summary: When they were at their darkest.
Lithuania and his scars. In the official art, it looks like one big splotch, with suggests that he might have been bludgeoned? Or burned? I don't know how scars work, but I decided to draw the whipping scars...
Argh, I don't know which I am more ashamed of, me drawing this subject matter, or that Japan's face is totally screwed up. This is Japan, World War II, towards the end--in August when America shoved two bullets into his "left abdomen."
CONQUISTADORS!!! What can I say? I love Spain, even though he's really hard to draw. I actually was a fool and went and looked up the armour and sword of that time period. Not that it showed. Aie.
The original idea behind the "I'll take this one...but only the boy" page in my UK+HK doujinshi. A lot more explosively emotional, and this was when I still thought that Hong Kong emoted.
"Go, Ivan."
A younger (tween?) Russia and General Winter. I just wanted to draw that sort of anguish in Russia's eyes, and someone whispering in his ear and egging him on to follow his orders.
"Stop. Stop! STOP!!" 1905 Revolution (Bloody Sunday), in a way.
1917, after the Royal Family was killed. My mousou has it that Russia watched the royal family grow up, and was almost like family to them (because the nation-tans follow their respective governments around). So after witnessing the shooting of the Romanovs (a small can of worms bunny in my head says he had a hand in it, too. Sorry.), Russia's sanity was compromised completely.
Full-on Soviet Russia. I feel like I just drew some sort of timeline that should be labeled: "The unhinging of Russia." The Russian here says "Little Red Riding Hood."

History is awesome! I'm surprised at how many of my students hate it o_O;;;;

It's really true that some of these characters are so cute you forget what some of them really did. Infamously for me, I kept looking at Spain thinking: "Oh, he's so cute and so nice, he never did anything wrong..."
Two weeks later I was thinking that and suddenly the word "conquistadors" dawned on me. I was so ashamed.
*loves Russia*

I'm really not sure what else I can add that other people haven't already said. It just keeps amusing me how the comic is very happy and fluffy (in general) and the fans are over here with the angst and darkness (and the fluffy cuteness) and I love them both.
Anyway I had more to say, but I think I love your work and keep it up please will work for now. <3 <3 <3

I think there's a good balance of happy and dark in this fandom, and it's just nice to see the actual manga being so cute. I guess this is what they call a "healing type" of manga?
Thank you so much for your support, it really does give me a lot of energy^/////^

obsessedvery close with Fredrick the Great in the comics.Also, these pictures rock. I bow to you in reverence *bowbow*

And Spain is hot. Probably I'm empathizing with my (XD part of the) country too much, but he really is charming, all conquer-y and stuff <3

I sympathize and love Russia too much for it to be healthy TT___TT
XDDD Spain really is charming. I love refreshing guys like him.
Another long comment, but all about ur awesome art!
This series of pictures is GOLD. (The first metaphor that came to mind was "this is beautiful like admiring a storm from afar is beautiful.") I loved them all.
* The Lithuania one is gorgeous (Nice back anatomy!) I wonder if the scars refer to any specific moment in history, or just the general beatings the nation took?
* Japan and the Two Bullets-- don't worry too about the face. It's another great shot (...GAH PUN.) The pose and the general feeling of the picture more than make up for it!
* When I first looked at Spain, I immediately decided it was going to be my favorite picture of the lot (and then I changed my mind immediately after I saw Russia, but I'll get to that in a sec.) The research DOES show. And I do love the rare representations of Spain the Conqueror. I don't know why! I just like seeing his psychotic side. (Does Spain qualify as a Yandere? Genki go lucky until he snaps?)
* Wahh. The poor twins. Not much to say to this one except that, yes, the poor things.
* RUSSIA.
ALL THESE PICTURES. It's like, I can't bring myself to talk. I just keep going 'THIS' and pointing at the screen. You did such an AMAZING job with the expressions of anguish in the first two that they actually made me gape! Poor little Russia (ALSO GENERAL WINTER'S HAND IS EXCELLENT.) But goodness, Bloody Sunday picture is AMAZING. It leaves me speechless. The Romanov killing one is terrific for the expression. I'm wondering how, exactly, he influenced things in that general direction but all I know is that the picture feels right. Finally, I do wonder if Russia dyed his flag with paint, or if he found some other way of dying it red.
When I write the Russia's Descent into Madness thing, I'm probably going to have to use 'Little Red Riding Hood' as the chapter title for Russia's full-on soviet phase. You nailed everything right in the head, and nothing else will feel right.
Another long comment is long. Ahaha--
Anyway! *thumbs up* Really. It was great to wake up today and run across this treasure trove of dark art.

Re: Another long comment, but all about ur awesome art!
He probably should show it when he's around someone he can bully. Spain was a good fighter, historically, but it was only at its darkest when it had something to conquer. And usually in those cases it had an ABSURD advantage.
Re: Another long comment, but all about ur awesome art!
But seriously, a nation whose national past time seems to be running headfirst at a bull? Gotta be at least somewhat badass. O_O;

Re: Another long comment, but all about ur awesome art!
-I practiced back anatomy for a bit in my previous fandom (BASARA, an example here. (http://www.unowen.net/tegaki/dblog.php?u=2197&e=19155)) for all the wrong reasons XD; It almost appears as though it's something like beatings that the nation took on, since we do see Russia go at Lithuania with a whip.
-Thanks^^; I wanted to make it look like he's really going "OMG WTF just happened!" mid-battle.
-Spain is just so LET'S POSITIVE THINKING in the manga that I wanted to show that he was a conquistador at ONE POINT in his life and kicked ass in his own right (as long as it wasn't...British ass? XD) Spain is probably the kind of guy who is all genki go lucky until things get really terrible and then he just throws down.
-I love the twins. TT__TT
-AND I LOVE RUSSIA. Just tons of fun drawing those pictures right there because ...Russia makes me inspired? XD; I love drawing him crying while laughing, or wrenching his hands in anguish and frustration over situations he just can't seem to fix or change.
(General Winter's hand was a real PAIN but I'm glad you think it turned out well!)
I say that the flag was dyed by blood, but that's just me... XD;;;;;
Aaah, thank you ^////////^ Would be honoured if you used the Little Red Riding Hood reference.

Also, Spain is love. Creepy love. Makes me wonder if there's going to be any Latin American nations in the comics, besides Cuba. We do have pretty interesting (hi)stories, but none of us have reached the status of Powers.
no subject
We might get a Mexico? We hope? Not sure... But Spain was really creepy at one point in the canon, during the Great Depression where he started yelling: "Cuba! CUBA. DIE, AMERICA."

but as a lot, all of these are splendid. :o a nice set of studies for important times in their histories. :3 i love it!

Thank you^^/ I guess a lot of times, important times in their history involves really dark stuff...
no subject
it does...the juicier bits tend to involve dark stuff too. :x

Actually, my mother used to complain that my characters aren't expressive enough. Every one of these is a practice to get away from that XD;
no subject
And history is dark. Every country has a skeleton in its closet. I believe that there is nothing wrong in talking about it (and it's bound to happen in fandom like Hetalia, it's cute and funny, but they are COUNTRIES that FOUGHT in a WAR) as it's history and not an attempt to insult anyone but I had exactly the same problem in the morning..
no subject
Yah, in fact, if these nations weren't dark in their wars, they wouldn't be here, existing now, right? In fact, even my own nation, as young as she is, was pretty terrible during WWII.
no subject
History is all "better to eat than to find you've been eaten" and it was always like that. Well, maybe there should be a poll in the comm to clarify if people are okay with dark stuff being posted? Personally I'm all for it and I know that many other people think so as well, but I can't speak for everyone.
no subject
Actually, a while ago I did a poll similar to that which I asked if we should go to using the human names as a rule instead of the nation's names, the general consensus was: "If you want to, do it, but don't make it a rule. Besides, if you take things too seriously, you shouldn't be reading Hetalia." So I guess it can also go as a general saying for the dark history.
no subject
and I especially love the Russia ones, and that you based some off historical events.
I like that you're doing a darker side of hetalia kind of thing.
While I love how fun and light Hetalia is, I like to see a serious approach to them.
Excellent work!

Hetalia provokes serious thought! Or laughter O_o;

I do love them all, especially Japan's and Russia's. I like the way that you put the history into Russia's pics (It makes me feel like I am watching him growing up. :D)
Good job!! ^^b
