Hetalia as a horror series...who would be what?

Hi Hetalia!  I'm sorta embarrassed, asking for help, but I figure a lot of you can help me with my current situation. See, I've been challenged to draw a manga by a friend, a HORROR manga to be precise, but she wants it to be Hetalia-ized!

Unfortunately, I'm having problems fleshing out the characters. I have absolutely no idea what to put characters as! And since she's asked me to draw Hetalia characters as different horror-estque creatures, I assume that she doesn't want to see any NORMAL horror creatures, like vampires and werewolves (and if she does, she probably wants to see them in less numbers). So I want to ask Hetalia members who really know their mythologies, are there any SPECIFIC horror creatures you know that Hetalia characters might be suited for? Let's try to exclude vampires, mummies and all that if it can be helped since I want to get some really good suggestions! It'd be really helpful if you could tell me the name and description of the creature (or a picture, if you have it), but I want some logical reasons why characters are suited for it. Is the creature an iconic beast of that country? Do the character and the creature portray similar characteristics??? Tell me your thoughts, please?

I'm not looking just for the general Hetalia characters but any other nation as well. As soon as I get suggestions, I'm going to continue on the manga. I'll present it when it's done!!!

Thanks for any help received!!

:edit: WOAH!! My inbox got flooded aftyer just a few hours. Thanks for all your suggestions!! I have a pretty good idea as to who should be what, though I'll still be glad to hear anything else!

The pilot chapter should be done (I hope) within a month or so. When it is done, I hope you all will get a chance to read it. Thanks again!!

The Ring--Belarus would make a perfect Sadako, don't you think?

I have seen fanart on PIXIV of that very thing... As well as Hetalia characters in a Battle Royale setting. That would be sooo awesome. XD

(sorry for not being real helpful to the original question. Most of my horror knowledge is Japanese movies...)

most of my knowledge of horror-type genre stuff is Japanese stuff, too, soooo. I can't watch American horror movies *is just like America lol*

Hetalia in the Blair Witch Project. England would be the witch. XD

Hetalia in the Hannah Montana movie. DONE.

American unfortunately will not be playing the hero this time, but instead Hannah Montana.

I will love you forever if you do this.

After reading this i imagined Japan in a Godzilla costume.

Okay so, your not looking for anything like Dracula and all that cheesy stuff.
So, what i think would be pretty cool would be Russia mutated into some kind of monster, caused by the Chernobyl disaster. Belarus would make more sense since 60% of the radioactive fallout landed in Belarus, but i like the idea of her being Sadako.

There's the Pontianak for Malaysia or Indonesia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontianak_(folklore)

There's the strigoi, a kind of vampire in Romanian mythology. There are two types, and the strigoi mort is more like a zombie-ish vampire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strigoi

For Japan, there's Kuchisake-onna, the Slit-Mouth Woman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slit_mouth_woman

Then there's the Krampus in German mythology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus

And there's the Chinese Jiang Shi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiang-shi

It would be cool if, for America, you used something from the Lovecraft Mythos since H. P. Lovecraft was an American and his stories take place in New England. Cthulhu!America would be awesome!

I may post more horror things as I think of them. :)

Finally, reading all those point horror books have come in useful for something.
There are some stories about twins, where one of them is always evil- so any pair of siblings would fit.
A not so serious suggestion- Belarus as the face hugger from Alien.

If you want creative and messy I suggest anyhing from the Saw series. It's just random torment crap but it's got interesting ways to abuse people. Paranormal Activity would be a decent suspence even though the movie made me laugh. There's also The Exorsist, both stories. I could see Italy and those Roman Catholic countries freaking out. I also liked Mirrors, The general plot of your reflection being capable of harming you was what really got me like "Ew it's gross and cool AT THE SAME TIME!", anyone can do that. OMG though if you used Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltics in a story ,like, identical to The Messangers that would be TIGHT! If you never watched it just check out the settings. You'd figure out why I would love to see that. Ooooh! Now I wanna draw that!

I'm confused, are we talking about characters from horror movies or creatures from different mythologies? Or both?

I'm not much for horror movies, but for mythology, maybe America as a Wendigo? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendigo)

[identity profile] inner-wings.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh reasons, I forgot reasons...it's a creature from Algonquian mythology, a spirit that possesses humans and makes them into violent cannibals who can never be satisfied no matter how many people they eat. It would be kind of interesting for America, since it's a myth from one of his native peoples, and that constant need for more and never being satisfied kind of sounds like him, huh? A very twisted him, but yeah.

My first thought was that history itself can be pretty horrific... (Vampires, Mummies, and Werewolves aren't normal! They're classic!)

You actually got me thinking, to be honest... going by Greco-Roman mythology, I think either of the Italy brothers (but more likely Romano) or Greece could be suited for the roll of the minotaur. It's half human and half bull, usually depicted with the head of the animal. In other art it looks like a hybrid, with hooved feet but it is always somewhat buff.

If I think of anymore, I'll add on.

Prussia = zombie, ghoul, or similar undead creature.

(it is worth noting that "zombie" can be a lot more than what we see in Resident Evil and similar games... they can be slow or fast, dumb or smart...)

I am consulting my Age of Mythology game as we speak lol.

[identity profile] firebird-88.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, this is going to be interesting. O.o

The only mythology I'm really familiar with is Norse, Greek and ancient Egyptian, none of which are really helpful unless you want the Nordics to be like, giant wolves or something. ^^; They both have myths about giant, evil snakes that could possibly destroy the world, but that may not help much in terms of a Hetalia character. HMMMMMMMmmmm...

I do think Egypt would be a good Sphinx though, because Sphinxes are clever and mysterious.

Here's a list of creatures from Age of Mythology, if it helps at all. http://aom.heavengames.com/gameinfo/articles/creatures-greek I can't think of specific matches to Hetalia characters, but... I dunno, maybe you can. XD

Oh, and if you don't want England as the dark magic user, you could cast him as a Jack the Ripper/Hannibal Lecter type. (Night in the Lonesome October is a good book for the former). Gentlemanly violence? All over that shit.

Also for some reason I see France as the effete hysterical "random victim chick" that dies first, usually after having sex.

Chibitalia or Chibihon as the creepy "I see dead people" kid

Lovecraftian America should totally make an appearance too.

You're welcome 8333

Belarus would also fit being the Witch in Left 4 Dead.

Poland could be strzyga http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strzyga or rusalka http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusalka. I think role of rusalka fits him betterXD They are both creatures from slavic mythology.

Oh yum :9 I like this!

I would love a Resident-Evil Hetalia universe :DD

Haha, please don't make Russia completely evil |D Or evil at all OTL But it'd be up to you.
