This was supposed to be a scene from a doujin I'm working on, but then I realized that the only thing it would lead to (in context) was massive fluffy angsty backstory ~~and then sex~~, so now it's just a sketch. I actually like the original lineart better than the colored version, which means I need to learn how to color D:

I'm the type to notice the little details, and I really love the light flush on Switzerland's cheeks. Is that a blush I see on Austria as well? XD I like the way you did Austria's hair, too.

I swear, trying to find anything for AusSwitz is like trying to find water in the desert. It's strangely unsupported. D| I do next to nothing but lurk everywhere on LJ, but I couldn't help but feel the need to comment on this.

Geez, I'm wishing that they'll be shown interacting in canon again eventually. For my inner fangirl and for the purpose of shedding a little light on that pairing. For the amount of shipping evidence it has, it's sad how obscure it is. Half the time when I browse around different sites I feel like the only one who ships it orz

Yeah, I am~ Funny you should mention it, I've been practicing drawing and writing (mainly drawing) so I can develop my own style that I'm happy with, and contributing to the comm is probably my biggest source of inspiration. It's sad that I have little to no time to sit down and draw or write. /also, inferior complex

The lack of fan interest in general might even be somewhat inspiring, if you could call it that. It's like a "if you want something, make it up yourself" open invitation for ~~random angsty sex plotbunnies~~ interpretations, and since there's no real set fanon, whatever you come up with that seems logical/plausible enough goes. I've actually been trying to interpret the pairing my own way through writing, but..."what is this free time you speak of?" otl

And about the contributing: I'm honestly not too happy with my style, since coloring still escapes me and I occasionally screw up proportions dramatically. But people are generally nice about whatever shows some talent, so ah...don't take the inferiority thing too far? I know the feeling, tho D:

I know, I'm internally rejoicing (read: hdfgisd;klf 8D) that there's someone else who wants to bother discussing it from a similar point of view as me. Which means I could probably discuss this forever like woah.

I think the lack of fan interest is not so much from the "it's not plausible" point so much as it's from the "there are more canon pairings out there involving them", but personally (and maybe I'm biased) I've always found AusSwitz more canon than, say, PrusAus or SwitzLiech -- I see Gilbert as an annoying sibling who likes to harass Rod for the lulz and Liechtenstein as a little sibling who really idolizes Vash.

...I-if that doesn't work, it's at least got to be one-sided, right? ;~; It's practically undeniable that Vash has some sort of crush on Roderich.

I think the fact that I'm way younger than much of the fandom would be repelling me from trying to post, but I'll keep that in mind! *rushes off to school*

I'd have to agree that Austria definitely has more popular other-pairings, since you'd be hard-pressed to find any real interaction between him and Switzerland around WWII (and then the Austro-Prussian wars were more historically famous than any Swiss independence movements...). Which is why I've been working on trying to analyze Austria's motivations for being interested in Swiss and not have it be completely one-sided. There's an austro_swiss thread with a bit of pertinent discussion in it, I think :o

But yeah, I personally can't see SwissLiech as romantic at all either. Liech, besides the whole "is a country" thing, is like eleven, and I think of Swiss as an overprotective brother figure who'd shoot himself before he thought anything like that about Liech, because that's...well, what I'd do with my siblings D:

I think I remember reading that thread, and the way I think about it is if you're going to be SRS BSNS about a pairing, you need to choose a fitting blend of country history and that character's personality (I've read tons of wonderful fics with historical accuracy, but sometimes I feel like the writer loses the character's personality if they're not careful).

I suppose you'd have to take the setting (time/era-wise), the country relations at that time, and then apply their own character traits? _{I honestly know absolutely nothing about current events (living in Canada doesn't help), but I'm under the impression that Austro-Swiss relations have been good in recent times?}

Yeah, I've always thought Liech was a lot younger than Switz and he'd probably do more than put a bucket over his head and punch it if his thoughts started getting more than platonic xD

Yup, Austro-Swiss relations seem pretty good right now, especially in terms of the EU, although there's not much angst (or stuff happening) there. So, it often seems as if there's nothing to write besides fluff and reminiscing, which doesn't really get you anywhere with character development. That might be one reason why this pairing hasn't really taken off.

And agreed on the character interpretation thing. D: That's one of the difficult things about Hetalia, because while the author *does* have fairly recognizable/identifiable-with-country characters, it's not like you can apply that to every situation (MussoliniFascist!Italy? I'm honestly kinda scared thinking about *Italy* being a cheerful hardcore fascist, although that seems like a fic worth writing).

So AustSwiss...we still need more character interpretations. You've lurked a bit; have you found any good fics for this pairing? ^^;

Other causes of unpopularity could be that they're not shown reacting outside of that one series of strips (if memory recalls correctly?) and Switzerland is a pretty minor character in comparison to... well, some of the other minor characters. And the majority of dynamic pairing!fics I've seen are based off of major historical interactions between the main countries (that being said, I've read maybe two fics featuring Swiss independence themes).

...My own paragraph confuses me but maybe my brain is just tired orz

I'd find a fic featuring the darkest sides of every character interesting, but that would be riding the ragged edge of disaster due to offensive stuff and... stuff.

As for fics, I don't think I've found any dealing with present-day Aus and Switz, but I found a couple of cute little fluffy ones on the kink meme a while back that theorized that Austria hurt himself/let himself get hurt as a kid so Switzerland could fix him up. I'm considering dusting off my French literacy and looking around the French fandom to see if I can find anything there 8D on a side note, I have noticed over the past few months that people are becoming increasingly aware or acknowledging that Aus and Switz ~~had something going on~~ were friends at one point ~~unless it's been like that all along and I'm just being me, usually it takes me a while to get things~~
