[DISCUSSION] Biggest fears/worst memories

So I was reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban earlier (yes, I know :P) and during the parts involving boggarts and dementors, I started thinking about Hetalia and what each nation would see if they encountered either of those creatures. What would their boggarts turn into and what would the dementors force them to relive? I feel so nerdy for even thinking of this

Basically the question is: What are each nation's biggest fears? What about their worst memories? And alternatively, what are their best memories?

No clue what those Potter creatures are but I got the gist of it.

After reading the doujin Risorgimento I can't help but think Germany would be made to relive the fall of the HRE. As for boggarts, perhaps into Hitler...

In Germany's case: the boggarts would turn into Hitler and the dementors would make him relive WWII, but more specifically what the Nazis did in the concentration camps.

His best memories... would be when his nation became peaceful once more and, of course, all his time spent with Italy. Or, perhaps when/if he regains his memories, his memories with Chibitalia when he was HRE.

Canon Hetalia-wise, cockroach for Japan LOL

I think Prussia's would turn into death somehow, or seeing himself dead. He's obviously quite attached to the idea of being alive given that he survived his original country not even existing anymore. As for his worst memory...I'm one of the people who thinks he found HRE/baby Germany when he was in a pretty bad state, so maybe seeing his little brother all bloodied up like than and not knowing if he'd ever recover.

For Estonia, his worst memory could be having to become part of the Soviet Union, and his biggest fear could be seeing one of his brothers as they'd be if they had to keep living with Russia. Or potentially an especially nasty computer virus, but I'd assume he uses Linux so it's not so much of a worry XD

Finland's boggart would very likely be Russia. As for his worst memories, I think the civil war is that.

Russia would totally make 'em turn into Belarus. 8)

My only thought is this:

In Soviet Russia, Dementors and Boggarts are afraid of IVAN.

Biggest fear for France : Bismarck ! Not a very serious answer but I remember what my family told me. After 1870, the parents used to say to their children "If you don't eat your soup, the Spiked Helmet will get you !". The Prussian was the new bogeyman and when they were out, the children were scared to meet a spiked helmet.

LOL
Yeah, it's true Francis was parono about getting invaded once again by those "barbaric germans" (and just here my movie says "40 ans que la France et la Prusse rêve de s'écharper". Perfect timing. )
I mean Jeanne d'Arc is too cliché, so I was hesitating between occupation during WW2 or the Saint Barthélémy or events like that for Francis' bad memories...
But... just LOL

Ah, if parents had known what really happened when you were taken by the Spiked Helmet hahahaha

Belarus orgy Y/Y?

World War Two for Poland. The thought of being on the run from nazis and basically staying alive would have been a nightmare - I thought "The Pianist" was a perfect example of it. As for his best memories, the time spent with Liet as a commonwealth would have been golden.

I thought of French Revolution and the reign of Terror, French against French is more scary in my mind when your people are fighting/slaughtering each other.

Yeah, but the Franco/Prussian war was also a real trauma, so I understand her point of view, so it's not the first even that had popped up in my minde.

The Terror isn't the only civil war France had (and it's not only about guilloting people...) Religion wars were worse in their own way. The occupation isn't funny either. So which one can would I choose? Don't know.

TOTALLY THIS.

[identity profile] lai-choi-san.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as the French people have the control of their destiny, an event like the French Revolution can't be seen as the worst thing ever. After all, they were fighting for democracy. The worst is when a war and a civil war happen in the same time. That was the case of the Franco-Prussian war. During the Commune (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Commune), the Prussians were at the doors of Paris looking peacefully at the French slaughtering each other.

The problem with the Terror, it's that even if the idea of the government weren't that bad (no more slavery for example, democracy...), the motto was "we're in deep shit, we suspend your right, the time we get everything back in control. BRB". Unfortunately, the methods are just... bloody *euphemism,, we would consider them as war crimes nowadays* I know there was a civil war, but sending lads out of their mum's arms to tell Kellermann how to wage a war isn't the best solution ever. Opening the coffin of the dead kings either wasn't necessary at all...
... Hm by the way, we had a war and a civil war at the same time. Vendée and fuck yeah, 1st coalition (out of too many) vs Soldats de l'an II.

But I agree the Franco-Prussian war was a real trauma. Beside the Commune is all about "let do the Revolution once again", and Thiers wasn't known for his clemency. The Sacré Coeur was built to expiate it after all, if it's not a proof.

"Eat your soup or else Red-Eyes Gilbo will come and catch you at night !"

WW1 is not bad neither. Bad memories, we are spoilt for choices.

[identity profile] reyechan.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... lemme think...

For Ivan, the boggart would turn into Belarus holding a baby and wearing a wedding dress. xD And as for the dementors... his entire life would flash before his eyes. xDD Russian history is just so depressing as a whole, I simply couldn't pick just one incident.

[identity profile] epicfail1211.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Civil War would be a bad memory for America.

[identity profile] letthemhavepie.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Second this. He would probably see two versions of himself: One in Union blues and the other in Confederate grey.
After all the civil war had more deaths then any other war the U.S had combined.

[identity profile] quasiarti.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the best memories for Germany and Prussia was the fall of the wall and they can be reunited again.

[identity profile] stalkerbunny.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I couldn't tempt a certain person to answer this themself... *cough* That is, I had some help from [livejournal.com profile] taiyou_to_tsuki, thanks.

A boggart for Sweden would probably appear as himself, circa Thirty Years War to Great Northern War. In short, his empire days. Both because those were times with much external and internal conflict and horrible warfare in general, but also because (at least) in hindsight he abhors having been that militaristic nation.

The very worst memory, though, might be 1809, and losing Finland to Russia. Sweden lost hope of regaining his superpower status, and a large area that had been part of him for centuries in one blow. Furthermore, after that Finland started becoming more independent, and, to quote my source: "A worse thing than giving up the person you love the most to someone you can't stand is knowing that that person is better off without you."
