[Discussion] Am I the only one who's noticing this about Prussia?

Is it just me, or is Himaruya starting to draw Prussia with a broader body in each new pic? He's getting to be built like Germany...

Here's a link to a comparison picture. Be warned: It's pretty huge.

If you look at the comparison, you'll notice that Gilbert was still a little on the lean side around the time of the Ore-Sama Blog back in April. However, as early as the CD, he seems to have bulked up a little (his pecs actually have a little definition there). Then, look at the picture drawn earlier this month. His pecs are definitely showing there. Lastly, take a look at the most recent picture. His muscles are showing a bit, even through a suit. Do any of you see what I'm talking about, too?

(I, for one, kind of miss Skinny!Prussia, since I thought his lean yet still muscular build set him apart from the others, but I can't say this new development is really unwelcome. XD)

But, I just say, since nations are in human bodies, he could just have been working out or something. I can't see Germany really letting him laze about the house doing nothing after a while. And he'd get bored pretty quickly, even if he did.

Or maybe Himaruya's planning a comeback for him. He's gonna go get him some vital regions. Or maybe Himaruya's predicting the future and Prussia will rise again. Okay, I'm done being stupid now, continue with the discussion, more serious people.

Good point there, with the difference in viewing angles, but I'm noticing that his shirt is stretching to accomodate his bulking up no matter how he's positioned. X'D

Also Russia's weight seems to be fluctuating, so who knows XD He was chubby, then thinner it seemed, and his newest chibi he's back to chubby.

Yes, both points are true, but then again, since the most recent picture is a chibi, that's not really the best reference for his general body shape (y'know, super-deformed and all). X'D

Perhaps is getting big bones, too... while living at Russia's house he did not get to fight, only doing "useless" work.

And looking at Eastern Germany now they don't get to fight much, too. Only for vacancies and money for everyday life. Much frustration and anger. I would not feel like training, too. More like comfort eating. And when you like pancakes with maple syrup just as much as he does... well.

I haven't really seen anyone complain about Gil's new look; in fact, I'm not sure how many people have even noticed the change. This fandom doesn't seem terribly reactive to changes made to characters, at least in the circles I've been in. Granted, every fandom has its extremists, but this one's one the mellow side, I'd say.

Some people are suggesting out that there's only an art style change, not really any changes with his body, so maybe you're just noticing that. However, I suggest that you take a look at his chest if you want to keep looking (and who doesn't? *SHOT*). In the first picture, he seems kind of skinny, and his shirt doesn't really seem to "cling" to anywhere. Then look at the third picture. To be fair, it might just be the way he's twisted, but it looks like his shirt is stretching around his pecs in one place (for comparison/reference, Germany's does this in at least one picture too), or that there's at least some lines defining it that weren't present in earlier versions.

Actually, I don't know if Himaruya drew the illustration for the Gilbird plush (the third one). Judging from the coloring, I think it was drawn by the anime artists. And in the blog, there's a close-up picture of the bird that also has it fluffy. I think the first bird is just plain because it's not a close-up and the focus is supposed to be on Prussia. X'D Long story short, I'm not sure the third example belongs. ^^;

Well, if I remember correctly, there was a caption by Himaruya with that drawing you have listed as "early December" about how no matter what he draws Prussia wearing, everyone tells Himaruya he looks like an 8th grader. Maybe Prussia's pride was hurt by those comments and he decided to bulk up in hopes that would remedy the problem?
