[fanfic] Class Four [1/11]

Still unemployed, but I did manage to use up the last of a gift card and get myself a copy of "The Zombie Survival Guide", which is my key point of reference for this fic anyway. Still have to give the speech on the importance of the zombie survival plans, so cross your fingers that people don't glare me out of the room. (Hoping I can wrangle my way to being either first or last so as not to make a joke of some of the other topics)

Title: Class Four [1/11]
Chapter Title: Prologue
Author: me
Characters/Pairings: Pretty much all of them. I stopped counting, really
Rating: Overall, somewhere between an R and an NC-17, for violence and a bit of sex. This chapter, eh, a T.
Warnings: Gore, violence, kinda depressing but overall pretty awesome. Involves zombies, as anyone familiar with the survival guide should be able to tell by the title.
Summary: It had always been there--that unexplainable scourge--but never like this. Never so widespread, and never ever this severe. [An APH/WWZ crossover]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had always been there, really. Heracles remembered stories from his mother about the walking dead; a scourge from the gods to punish the wicked men who went against them. Heracles could recall his mother swaddling him and whispering prayers as she kissed his head, warding against them ever approaching the small boy.

Aaquila's stories are much the same. She remembers following behind Macedonia, her small hands buried in her skirts. There are legions of men so eager to fight, and yet stories keep coming in of the dead who live once more. She doesn't believe, at first. Then they come upon a group of the ghouls, and it is the Macedonian's sword that cleaves the creature's head from its decomposing body. The head crashes to the ground, breaking open on the helmet that has fallen first.

Aaquila must turn away, for the brain that threatens to ooze out of the creature's skull is only partly there.

Almost every nation has a similar story--some bury it deeper into their memory, file it back to times where they were governed by another. In time, they come to believe that the walking dead are simply a myth.

When it begins, it starts in China. It is a poor village, and no one is quite sure if it has a name. Some are ill, and some are approaching death. There are bite wounds--from a human--on many of them. Word begins to leak out to the more educated of those Chinese doctors who come to investigate.

Yao's troops sweep in and try to supress it, but it is too late. It chases the heels of the soldiers and the refugees from country to country until the world is swarthed in the menace.

Some of the Nations turn to their leaders and ask, "What now?" and their leaders respond. Others are left in silence as their elite dive underground, fearful for their own safety.

No one knows this war will last for a decade. No one knows that it will be worse than anything they've encountered before.

"Do you think you've stopped it, I think, is the greater question?"

Yao sets his tea on the table with a gentle 'clink'.  Ivan is smiling, but there is a concern in his voice that Yao has not heard since Russia stood knee-high to him. Yao knows of the outbreak years and years before--and how the cold of Siberia kept some of these ghouls at bay.

"No. I fear this is something we may not be able to control."

"Surely, though, Alfred will wonder why you are having your military so active, yes?"

Ah. Alfred. Not America. Clearly Ivan's mind is elsewhere. Yao bites his tongue and continues the conversation. The Chinese man gestures a slim hand vaguely in the direction of Taiwan.

"There is a crisis there---they want independence," he explains. Ivan's smile curls the corners of his lips. It's slightly disturbing, but Yao has seen worse.

"Ah, but they have always wanted that, have they not? What would change their mind?"

"If this spreads, Ivan, I fear it will not matter."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Aaquila is an Afgan name meaning intelligence. Going with the concept of Afghanistan being a girl as seen in the gag comic "Afghanis-tan". Going off of the mention of images of a zombie mentioned in "Zombie Survival Guide", under the heading "329 B.C. Afghanistan".
-The virus that causes zombification, Solanum, literally destroys part of the brain.
-In "World War Z", the outbreak that will eventually spread worldwide starts in a small, unnamed Chinese village. I'm going vaguely off of WWZ, as I can't seem to find a copy of it in the library. I'm going mainly off of the plot summary, but expanding upon it greatly.
-Taiwan (the island itself) is governed by the
Republic of China. It's been that way since the end of WWII. This is not the same government as the People's Republic of China (which is the nation we commonly think of as 'China').

To Chapter 1!

Working on more, but enjoy this for now. I promise lots more zombies and Nations and wonderful stuff featuring some of my favorite parings: USxUK, FrxUK, ChinaxRussia, AustriaxHungaryxPrussia, GermanyxItaly, GreecexJapan, and so on and so forth. Will also be mentioning many nations who do not have representations in Hetalia---yet. Also, some surprise guests, :D

Hopefully I can update at least once a week, on fridays if I can.

Later chapters will be much longer.

Oooohohohoh~ You have my interest!

World War Z and the Survival Guide are two of my favourite books so i'm excited to read this. Be very interesting if you follow the political changes that happen to countries in this too.
