Used to be a super power nation that traveled around the world with its merchant ships--but was then tormented by England, beat up upon by a much younger America, and engulfed in poverty and war ever since he was stripped of his status as a super nation.

Was once a large nation in Europe that had the continent within the palm of his hand.

イギリスとは生まれてこの方とにかく仲が悪いが一応実力は認めてはいる。
Ever since England was born, they have been at odds with each other and are always trying to see which one is better and be acknowledged as such.

ナポ公がいなくなってからは戦うのはあまり得意じゃなく、ワイン片手に観光客の案内したり農業でワイン用のぶどう作ったりしている方が性にあってるようだ。
Ever since Napoleon passed away, hasn't really been very good in war, but became a country known to attract tourists by wine alone (such as showing them to vineyards and to touring the process of wine-making).

雄大なアルプス山脈と自然に囲まれた少し引きこもり気味の永世中立国。
An eternally neutral nation that lives seemingly as a social hermit/recluse, surrounded by the grand Alps.

平和そうなイメージなスイスだが銃の一大生産地でもあり、巨大な軍事力と世界中の財布を握っているため他の国が手を出せない状態だからこそ出来る永世中立国である。
Even though Switzerland has an image of being peaceful, he is the biggest producer of guns in the world, has the biggest military strength and holds the world's wallet.  With this, he is able to be the eternal neutral nation because other nations are unable to really lay a hand on him.

　元々強い結束のもと生まれた国で他国との関わりをあまり持ちたがらなかったせいか外国人嫌い。
Was originally born as a nation from strong unions/treaties, but because he doesn't have many relations with other nations, he hates outsiders (foreigners).

Nation's name: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (I am translating his name to "England" or "UK" purely because I have asked people from the UK and they said even the nation's name is pretty tricky/touchy.)

A rainy empire that was once a pirate, now a gentleman (?)

元はフランスの下っ端だったが、そのフランスの土地上半分ぶん取るくらい暴れまくって以後、フランスとは腐れ縁的なケンカ友達に。
Was once a subordinate of France, but after taking the top half of France's land and getting violent with him, it's spoiled their relationship and now they're fighting buddies.

元海賊なのをいいことにスペインを苛めたり、あちこち植民地にしたりヨーロッパ一の暴れん坊。
As a former pirate, used to torment Spain and set up colonies here and there and everywhere.  Was a pretty violent little boy.

　性格は皮肉屋で負けず嫌い、少し意地っ張り。
Is cynical, hates to lose, and is slightly obstinate.

最初は冷たいように見られがちだが仲良くなると意外と尽くす方だ。
Seems to be cold at first, but is surprisingly devoted to someone if he becomes friends with that person.

口は悪いが根っからの悪い奴ではない。
Has a real potty mouth, but is not a bad guy.

幽 霊や妖精や魔術、伝説といったものが大好きで幽霊の住民表や幽霊ツアーがあったりするほど。

In the manga, France calls him エロ大使, which might be loosely translated as 'Grand Ambassador of Sex'. And there's an intermittent gag or two about England's Naked Waiter service, sex ed videos, etc. (actually, France and England trying to make the other look more perverted is kind of a running joke)---so you might say he deserves it, in canon. I'm in no position to know the real extent of sex in English media output, of course!

You know, I just realize that though the edelweiss is everywhere in Austrian military paraphernalia, it's actually the Swiss national flower. XD I should read more carefully, really. (And on that note, it's amusing that France's carrying a rose for various gutter and non-gutter reasons---'country of love' aside.)

BTW, I've been thinking about this for a couple of days---would you like some help in translating stuff? My vocab is on the lousy side, but it just seems unfair to leave all the work to you, since the manga's huge and all over the place. If it's more comfortable to work alone, I'll still cheer from the ringside.

Duh, I have never heard of the surname Carriedo XD, but I guess it could be, though I believe the most common spanish surnames are López and Giménez. TOMATOES!? What about the "jamón serrano" and the "tortilla de patata" XDDDD, those are found in every corner of the country, I assure you XD.

They're all REALLY cute, and I've always liked history before, but this is making me even more interested in specific stuff and other countries.

I'm a bit surprised that his name wasn't something like Carlos Lopez or something--sorry for feeding into a stereotype, but it's so common O_O I guess the tomatoes thing comes from the huge tomatoes food fight they have? XD Not sure.

As you say, England/UK/Britain is a touchy subject, however, as his name is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, calling him "England" ignores Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, who he is also meant to represent :) Also, his flag shows the Union Jack, which is the British or UK flag, not England's. Just my two pence ^_^

yeah, saying the capital of the UK is London is kinda like saying "and the capital of Europe is-" The caracter can't be called UK, as Scotland and Northern Ireland are characters in the manga, and he can't be Britian, (Britian is a dead concept, kinda like the Holy Roman Empire), therefore by process of elimination he can only be England. I'm gonna get hated for this, but Wales isn't an officially recognised country, like Sea-kun. What's going on with the flag though? English Flag is the cross of St George T.T
