FINLAND

National flower: Lily of the Valley

Human name: ティノ・ヴァイナマイネン (Tino Vainamainen?  Oh dear) Tino Väinämöinen
Height: Unknown
Age: 20 (appearance)


サンタが住むといわれる豊かな自然とオーロラの国。
The country where Santa lives, is full of nature, and is known for the aurora.

林業や農業を営む傍らハイテク機器を作るなど多彩な才能の持ち主にもかかわらず控えめでおとなしく実直な性格。
Specializes in agriculture and forestry, high-tech machinery, as well as a variety of talented people. Is honest and quiet.

味覚に関してはイギリスといい勝負中。あの世界一まずいことで有名なサルミアッキを美味しくいただける舌の持ち主。
He's currently in a fight with England in terms of taste (note: Hetalia makes fun of how England's cooking is REALLY BAD). Is one who is able to say that the infamously disgusting salmiakki is delicious.

一時期スウェーデンやロシアの下っ端だったこともあったが大国相手に奮闘し独立、その後真面目にこつこつがんばっているようだ。
Was once the underling of Sweden and Russia but was able to gain independence after fighting with these larger nations and is now working hard.

また奇妙な祭りをやるのが大好きで、毎年じわじわとどこの国も考えないような奇祭が増え続けている。
Also loves interesting festivals, every year he'd think of weird festivals that no other countries can even imagine.

Age: 21 (appearance)

北欧の獅子と呼ばれた元ヴァイキング。
Formerly a Viking that was known as "The Lion of Northern Europe."

昔はポーランド・リトアニアやロシア、デンマークといった大国と戦ったり、リヴォニア、エストニア、カレリアなど広い領土を所有していたり、「バルト海の 覇者」と呼ばれていたりもしたが、時代とともに没落。
A long time ago, had actually fought with Poland, Lithuania, Russia, and Denmark and possessed territory in Livonia, Estonia, and Karelia.  Was called "The Conqueror of the Baltic Sea," but it fell as the times passed by.

最近は戦うことを止め武装中立を守り続けている。
Recently stopped fighting and is continuing to stand neutral about military matters.

　寒い土地出身のため、あんまり口を開かない喋り方をする。
Due to the fact that he was born in a cold area, he doesn't talk much.

性格は素直で真面目、議論好き。
His personality is honest, serious, and likes debates. (How does that make sense if he doesn't like to talk...)

趣味は家具作り、ガラス工芸と福祉。それと音楽。あとシュールストレミングという食品の最終兵器ともいわれるヤバイ缶詰を大量生産中。
Hobbies include making furniture, glass crafts/art, and welfare.  Is also currently making a ridiculously large amount of canned Surströmming, the food that can pretty much be used as an ultimate weapon.

(Note: in the manga, he speaks with a strange accent that is most likely an Akita accent.)
 Also, in the official manga, these two are very close and are called the "Northern Europe Husband and Wife" by the fandom.  They really are practically married.  They even own a puppy together.

I can't help but think the ヴ in ベールヴァルド is actually meant to be a ナ, making it Bernard. Sweden's last name is Oxenstierna, which is the name of an old family of nobles.

The first name of Finland (as other people have already stated) is Timo, considering that there's no Tino in Name Day's, but Timo is. And I neither know anyone called Tino.

Am I the only one that actually knows Finnish people named Tino in here? :D It's not very common so it's not in all the Name Day calendars. There was a time when Ella was a uncommon name and wasn't in any calendars, but I still think it's a pretty common name in Finland now ;D
And I think the weird festivals refer to "ämmänkanto"-contests and such, haha.

Oxenstierna is an older form of the name, and the form the rikskansler Axel Oxenstierna went by (where, presumably, Sweden gets his name). The spelling has been changed from stierna to sjärna in modern times.
