[profiles] Character Profiles: Asia

Hey everyone!  Here are the character profiles for the Asian nations!  Since there are at least 22 nations that are listed in the site's "Country" section and several more scattered around, I figured I'd do them by sections.

So, here they are!

Translations by yours truly,  [profile] youkofujima .  Please feel free to point out mistakes.

Nation's name: JAPAN (Nihon/Nippon)
Capital: Tokyo
Language: Japanese
Birthday: February 11th
National flowers: Cherry blossom (sakura), chrysanthemum (kiku)

Human name: Honda Kiku
Height: 165cm
Age: "A secret"

A small country that appeared in the latter half of the world's history and didn't take more than several decades to become a powerful country in the orient.

As an island nation, he holds distinct cultures and customs which other countries see as mysterious even though he himself thinks he's perfectly normal.

Has a personality where he doesn't know much about the world, but is hard-working, serious, skilled with his hands, and needs time to adjust to other people.  Loves watching the seasons change by admiring flowers and the moon, believes elegance is the best.

KOREA

Nation's name: Dae-Han Min-Gook (here, we are referring to South Korea, most likely)
Capital: Seoul

Declaration of Independence (Birthday): May 1st, 1919
National flower: Hibiscus

Human name: Im Yun Soo (任勇洙 Imu Yonsu)  Thanks to [profile] rukawagf for the translation!
Height: Unknown (but taller than Japan and China)
Age: 15-16 (appearance)

An unbelievable nation in the south of the Korean peninsula.

Fundamentally, he is serious and puts the family first (the family is important),

but when it comes to Japan, he hustles more than usual.

Really muscular probably due his military experience.

Loves kimchi to the point of taking it into space and pissing off France.

Hobbies include saying he's the creator of things, watching dramas, and studying abroad.  Recently, he's been flashmobbing Canada.

Lately, he's even started to say things like "Aniki (Big Brother)'s aniki is me!" or "I'm the one who created kanji!" to the point where China is about to snap.

CHINA

Nation's name: People's Republic of China
Capital: Beijing (Peking)
Language: Chinese
Nation's founding: 221 B.C.
Establishment of People's Republic: October 10th
National flower: Peony

Human name: 王耀 (Wong Yao)

A nation that possesses a long history, a large territory, and the roots of Asian culture.

Ever since a long time ago, there has been a lot of disputes in the country that changed the nation, but the people are more or less the same.

His workers are quick to calculate the costs and benefits, and are straightforward in expressing their emotions.

Is also extremely superstitious and religious despite the times.

Also, because his nation is well known for its variety of food, gets irritated and nags if there is food that has a pattern of tastes.

The current image is China=pandas, but at one time they were handled mostly by Europe and America as an UMA (Unidentified Mysterious Animal).

IIRC, UMA in fen usually means 'Unidentified Mysterious Animal'? It does fit what the west thought of the east's fauna back in the days.

By the way, I was just discussing this with my Japanese friend just now, and we were wondering if Japan's name is really Honda Kiku. Kiku is also read as "Aki" as a name.

Dictionary source (http://dic.yahoo.co.jp/dsearch?enc=UTF-8&p=%E8%8F%8A&dtype=0&dname=0na&stype=0&pagenum=1&index=04741320865600). It's also read as "hi" but, I think Aki sounds more like a name (at least a boy's name. Kiku sounds more feminine). . . and from what I've seen on the internet, I don't think there were any ways of proper reading (as in the furigana) written with his name for anyone to know whether it's Kiku or Aki.

Unfortunately, Hidekaz deleted the entry in his journal for anyone to even back track the source so. . . I suppose this will forever remain a mystery until it's officilized.

I wondered if you may possibly know or possibly someone else? =X But, then I didn't think it was a big deal to bring it up on the comm. XD

And I'm sorry, but the author seems to like praise Japan a lot. O o;;

[identity profile] sainta9-alice.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I guess it's the translation that makes it seem so, cuz they're some interpretations that can quite differ there. Like in Korea's profile, the line '不思議な国' most probably meant 'a wondrous country' more than unbelievable. 不思議 mostly has a postive meaning in Japanese when it's used.
And in China's profile, it could've been more like 'They're hard workers, keen at reckoning their profit and loss, and also relatively frank in expressing their emotions.' Get the slight difference of the nuance? It's respecting the nations more than you think. Sorry for nitpicking^^; I just don't want people to feel bad.

Korea's National Flower

[identity profile] emitoria.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
The national flower is the rose of sharon by the way. Well, technically speaking, it is a type of hibiscus, but rose of sharon is more commonly known, and its different from just a hibiscus.

ahaha...im korean so i should know this X'D

[identity profile] 007dragonstar.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
(Pretty late)

Eh? Im Yun Soo? That's Korea's name? I think it's Im Yong Soo... well, that's what a lot of people are going with... (and with me being Korean) I think it sounds better...

[identity profile] bure-danshi.livejournal.com 2009-07-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for China.

[identity profile] xdayglo.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
yay translation~
love China and always though Korea was funny
though Japan sounds kind of boring .__.;
flaws are what makes people special~

[identity profile] dantedirenc.livejournal.com 2009-08-19 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps it is that Himaruya's afraid to touch on North Korea due to the...possibilities.
But I think that if he's ever to go into it, North Korea should be a shadowy figure for the most part, and all you can see of him is a black shape and the Slasher Smile. And of course Yong-Soo never talks about him. ^^

[identity profile] laykishi.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I thought the same. In my eyes, North Korea is a quiet and very surly type, such as Su-san. But the Su-San in truth has a soft heart and is very sensitive, in contrast to North Korea-San who is... as scary as Ivan... Also, he deifies himself and hates foreigners.
^^°

If I were Himaruya, I'd make sure not to let N.Korea appear too often or only draw "him" in sketches.

Dunno ._."

[identity profile] laykishi.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Pseudo correction: Instead of "Wong Yao" I'd write "Wang Yao", because it's the correct chinese spelling for "prince" and as far as I know, the first Kanji only can be read "Wang". Yao can also be Yue, but the Wang is always Wang XD Well, I'm not sure and sometimes I see people using "Wong", so feel free to ignore me ^^°

Regarding China's language. Chinese is not a language. We have two main languages, Mandarin and Cantonese.

[identity profile] fifuns.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry but, Chinese is a language. Mandarin and Cantonese are dialects of the Chinese language. The reason why Mandarin is a "main" dialect is because the national dialect in China (you are pretty much able to speak Mandarin anywhere in China). Cantonese isn't really a main dialect either. It's only usually spoken in the Guangdong (Canton) area of China and Hong Kong. I think you might be thinking it is a main dialect because some areas with high population of Chinese speak Cantonese (ex. Chinatown in SF, CA). The reason for this is probably because in the past, a lot of immigrants came from the southern part of China. Besides, if Mandarin and Cantonese are languages, what happens to the other dialects of Chinese? They'd all be "languages" themselves, no?

:D

I wonder about the names, their names don't seem to be correct.
Korea's name is Im Yong Soo, and China's Wang Yao.

I'm sorry if this offends you, I just want to help.

[identity profile] hetellkr.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Korea's independence was declared on March 1st. o-o I would know because I'm Korean (Yay for S. Korea @u@). I love how all of them look XD Asian countries FTW.

UMA??

[identity profile] emilly1275.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Lol of course they'll make japan sound better than the rest xD but seriously? UMA? If that's even true they didn't have to put that there, same thing about Korea claiming that everything is his, lol if that is also true, it was quite unnecessary to include it, unless they'll say something negative about japan too. :P

Do I sound straight forward? *is Chinese*
