Cal-Reflector here. Been a fan of this series for a while. Yesterday I wrote a Austria-Hungary birthday drabble for a friend. Today I am a hopeless Prussia-Hungary fan and as a result greatly regret writing that drabble. nevertheless here it is:
Title: Beautiful Music
Characters: Austria, Hungary
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Het?
Summary: He plays, she listens.
****
Hungary followed the music through the series of hallways inside the mansion, the notes echoing off the vaulted ceilings and marble floors, drawing her feet towards him. In the afternoons, no matter the weather, she would always visit Austria at his stately home, and often she would hear him playing before she reached the front door. The first time this happened she had rung the bell and waited. Now she knew better and would simply let herself in.
Over the years Austria's fortunes had risen and plummeted. Even when the man had been Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire he made time for playing the piano; now, with the glory behind him he had all the time in the world. And though she had witnessed it all, had endured the worse by his side, inside her heart of hearts Hungary was glad, for she knew Austria's heart was never in conquest and colonies and empire, but in poetry, music, art in all its forms.
She paused in the doorway to his room, the door left open for her, and watched him as he played, eyes closed behind his spectacles as he immersed himself, pouring out his soul through his fingers onto the keys and touching hers at the same time; it was a song she knew well, by a composer from her nation. She rested her body against the door frame and waited and listened and dreamed.
When he finished, the last note fading into the air like a whisper, he rose and made his way towards her. She was still mesmerized when he reached her, brushing his thumb across her cheek where her skin warmed predictably. It was a pattern they knew well; the song always made her weak. "You've come again."
"You played a different Movement than usual."
"Liebesträume... Dreams of Love, movement two." He held her chin and brushed his lips against hers. The world traveled to hear Austria perform but this song he only played for her. The same deft fingers whose music tugged at her heartstrings now just as deftly loosened the buttons on her blouse. "I was dead from love’s bliss; I lay buried in her arms; I was wakened by her kisses; I saw heaven in her eyes."
It was a German poem centuries old, and the words raptured her all the same as when he whispered them the first time. She drew him into a deeper, wetter kiss as he lifted her from her feet--no man but he could sweep her off her feet--and carried her towards his bed, where they make the most beautiful music.
End.

I recently read a history of Prussia, which impressed upon me how precarious its existence had been throughout most of history. Then I saw the strips of chibi-Prussia and tomboy Hungary and how they used to fight against the Turks together. Then I was overwhelmed by the amount of wonderful fanwork devoted to Austria-Hungary which sometimes depicted a lonely Prussia on the outside looking in. Then I ran across this:
http://www.cam.hi-ho.ne.jp/popula/heta/april/walts1.htm
An high school parody, in which France and Spain coerce Prussia into asking a girl to dance a waltz on the last school ball before they graduate. Hungary happens to pass by, Prussia approaches her and is turned down... violently, and vows to take revenge by disguising himself as Austria (whom Hungary has a crush on) on the day of the ball and dump/reject her. In the process, Prussia enlists Switzerland's disciplinary help in teaching him aristocratic manners; he also teaches himself to play the piano in ten days, catching a cold in the process, in order to complete his disguise. Prussia's dedication leads France and Spain to wonder whether Prussia in fact loves Hungary, as they've known each other since they were children, but Prussia has never shared his own feelings.
I won't spoil the ending and what happened. But this strip broke my heart and firmly entrenched me. Thus, though I like alot of characters and pairings in Hetalia, my OTP is Prussia-Hungary. I hope we get along!

my OT3 is Austria x Hungary x Prussia
Anyway, that strip is probably one of my faves :DDDDD
Re: my OT3 is Austria x Hungary x Prussia
Re: my OT3 is Austria x Hungary x Prussia
read a Japanese fic where after WW2 Hungary and Prussia have their final meal together as the UN debates the new world order next door and Prussia's fate is on the line. They reminisce about over the centuries they were friends, then foes, then friends again. Hungary says she still hasn't forgiven Prussia for all the things he's done, and then starts to cry as she demands that he not disappear. Prussia asks her to smile for him and be happy and then he vanishes when the UN sentence is pronounced. Prussia is wiped off the map and ceased to exist after 1947.
Re: my OT3 is Austria x Hungary x Prussia

And when I think of the possibility that the war of the Austrian succession may have been an expression of Prussia's jealousy/envy/brewing anger towards Austria over Hungary, well, I'm gone.

"Just what do you like about that guy?"
He watched as she turned slowly towards him, Hungary looked at the boy--man--she first met centuries ago, a little knight back from the crusades who had no place to call home. She shook her head; it was no good remembering the past. "It's none of your business."
Prussia's visage darkened under his broad tricorn hat. "I have a right to know."
"Based on what??"
Based on the fact that I've known you longer than he has.
Based on the fact that I realized you were a girl before any of those other guys did, including him.
Based on the fact that I've saved your life and you saved mine when we fought the Turks again, and again, and again.
Prussia thought these things but said nothing. Why couldn't she understand him for once for a change? Could she know how he felt when she'd started living in Austria's house as his maid? Could she know what he felt to acknowledge that cursed noble as his Emperor, to look up to him always and see her by his side?
What did Silseia matter when what he wanted was her?
My God, not only am I ficing Prussia-Hungary I'm starting to do doujins of them now. I am in serious trouble.

Still, though, the years between 1867 and WWI are always referred to as "the good old golden times," so if nothing else, that was a period of "happiness." :D (Except for stuff that were considered "no big deal" at the time but came back to bite both countries in the ass during and after WWI.)
*is Hungarian :D;;*

1) The unequal political arrangement after Austrian expulsion of Ottoman influence from Hungary. (I suppose this shows in the fact that Hungary is Austria's maid).
2) Hungary having its national movement crushed by the Hapsburgs in 1848.
3) Hungary's continued active and sometimes passive resistance against Austra, i.e. quest for autonomy and finally formal independence in 1918. (This doesn't show in Hetalia, but I can understand that it probably goes beyond the scope of the author's intent)
What stood out to me about Hungary:
1)Much continuous warfare against her neighbors in the medieval and late medieval times; verily a great military power.
2)Hungary battled everyone. Lithuania, Poles, Turks, Russians, Mongols. In most of these conflicts Hungary used German mercenaries. (This is alluded to in Hetalia, in that Hungary might be the most manly of the bunch, especially in their youth).
What stood out to me about Prussia:
1) Served Hungary for a period of time as the Teutonic Knights before doing something stupid and being kicked out in the 1220s.
2) By far the weakest of the five great European powers after the Napoleonic wars; nearly ceased to exist during that conflict.
3) Settled the question of German primacy once and for all in the Austro-Prussian War in 1866, even though most countries expected Prussia would lose that conflict.
4) Austria-Hungary forms in 1867 as a result of weakening of Austrian position, giving Hungary much more equal footing in deciding her own affairs. Combined with 3) from above, I'm still undecided by how this would look like in Hetalia.
When all is said and done, I think I could envision a modern day Gilbert (who no longer has the name Prussia) meeting Elizaveta/Hungary. They reflect upon the follies of their youth, the good times and bad. Gilbert confesses that perhaps if he had not been so thick-headed--by picking continuous fights against Austria, by obsessing over his military prowess in order to obtain Hungary's attention or even separate the two--had he simply told Elizaveta how he felt about her.... things might have been different. Now, nearly two decades after the dissolution of the EU Hungary is her own again but Prussia has long since vanished. Elizaveta agrees and says they've come a long way, and that so long as Gilbert remained, it was never to late to make up for past mistakes.
A happy ending for Gilbert-Elizaveta/Hungary? Yes we can!
