[FANCOMIC] Greece’s Marble Fragments

Hey everyone! I have a comic I made based on a news article I read last Thursday. When I read this in the newspaper, I just HAVE to make it a comic. Damn this fandom for making me unable to read international news with a straight face anymore! XDD This is probably quite OOC, and bad scanner killed the quality a bit, but anyway. Enjoy! ;D

Title: Greece’s Marble Fragments
Author/Artist: arashiyukawa
Character(s) or Pairing(s): Greece, Austria, Germany, and a bit of USA and UK.
Rating: G
Warnings: nope.
Summary: Marble fragments from the temples in Athens were taken by other countries, and Greece do NOT appreciate that.

On February 16, 1943 -- in the midst of the three-year occupation of Greece by the Axis powers, led by Germany -- an Austrian soldier removed a marble fragment, measuring 7-by-30 cm (2.8 by 12 inches), from the Parthenon temple in Athens.

Tuesday, 02 Dec 2008, Greece welcomed back the marble fragment, which was passed from the soldier to his relatives, until the granddaughter decided to return the marble to Greece.

(Now that I’ve researched a bit more on the internet, it turned out that England and Italy also has Parthenon marble pieces. Oh well, let’s just say they -conveniently- missed the conference XD; )

The Parthenon Marbles, also known as the Elgin Marbles, were bought by the British Museum in 1816 and are exhibited as a prized part of its collection in London. The British Museum repeatedly has rejected Greek calls for the return of the 2,500-year-old frieze on the ground that its statutes would not allow it to do so.

Hope you guys like it! Sorry if my writing is hard to read ^^;

This is so adorable! I was reading yesterday about this return of the marble and the whole idea of it is so -- endearing. XD You portrayed this awesomely, fo' sho'. ♥ Not to mention your art style is so simple and awesome. Greece's cats oh god. XD

WHAT? THERE WAS NEWS LIKE THIS IS KOMPAS!? I HAVE TO READ MORE NEWSPAPER THESE DAYS orz;

This is awesome and i love how you portray each of the characters, especially how Greece is being bullied like that ROFL. And your drawing style is also cute and Hetalia-ish, good work! 8D OH MY, CAT RAMPAGE LMAO

[identity profile] sasorion.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, provenance. What a history fraught with high emotion and controversy! *used to work in a museum caught in its own lawsuit over certain objects*
The Elgin marbles are so beautiful, and while I so doubt the British will be returning any of them soon, I do wish someday people can see them back in Greece under the sun and not in a gloomy gallery! UK is spot on there, lol.

Haha, this is awesome, I love the way you illustrated this event. Great expressions! Hay gaiz, just give Greece back his marble already, it was never yours to begin with! >:V

[identity profile] moronokimi.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhhhh oh my. Man, seeing the world through Hetalia tinted lenses is so awesome.

(You might want to tag this for all the characters it includes too--Greece, England, etc)

Aw, this makes me sad. Stealing art and treasures from another culture disgusts me. Especially when it comes to things of historical relevance. Throwing it into museums doesn't make it any better.

At least it has a happy ending? Very cute comic.

Haha. This is awesome. XD Love the last panel.

Wonderful job. ♥

This was incredibly cute. I loved how after you found out more, you put the extra panel at the end. Does that mean Italy is asleep on Germany's/Spain's couch whenever Greece calls him/them?

And the kittehs . . . . the kittehs were epic. Just, so cute. ^_^

[identity profile] modorenai.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, happy Greece with the explosion of kitties was so cute. *melts*

And I like how UK is just ignoring Greece's phonecalls in your omake. :D (<--- *is a complete UK fangirl*)

[identity profile] delcirose.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, so cute. I love Greece and his cats~ That bit at the end with England and America was good! It's a wonderfully drawn comic.

[identity profile] synzunea.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
I like how you phrased that 8D

[identity profile] synzunea.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Poor Greece. Ugh, D: They should really give the marble fragments back 3>

[identity profile] mithrigil.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
So cute! I love the jubilation with the cats and the deathglare moment~

[identity profile] parzi.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Where I live, we love the Parthenon too! But we didn't steal bits, we just made our own (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenon_(Nashville)). I wonder what Greece would think of that.

(Probably not much. It's made of concrete, not marble. And there are no cats! But the giant Athena is pretty hot.)

[identity profile] parzi.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I was so busy chatting about my hometown that I neglected to compliment your comic. It's hilarious! I especially like Germany and Austria in the first few panels. They're such elegant thugs.

[identity profile] bipolarbliss.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Kompas had this?
I'd so ttly read that!

If I could understand it... the words are so tiny...it's intimidating... -fails-

Heheheh, England should just disconnect the phone xD

Awesome comic kk!

[identity profile] madhatterarashi.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
That was very funny, I liked it! You're style is so cute!
The question about the Parthenon's marble is quite famous and is similar to the one that sometimes pops back between Italy and the others countries' museums! So maybe Feli tought it was best to miss the conference because otherwise it would end into a GIANT and very troublesome fight about stealed paints? XD Something on the line "If I go, then Greece-san would ask for the marble, and the Nii-san would start a fight with France-nii-san and England-nii-san and...it would be too troublesome. Let's stay at home, it's almost 3 and it's SIESTA time" XD

[identity profile] fayeredgrave.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
This one was really cute, and interesting indeed! I love how your draw Greece-tan, he looks so expressive in the first and last panel of the second strip <3

Awwwwww~ That last panel with Greece and all the cats is too cute. *__* Awwwww... they look so happy! ;o;

I hope Greece will get back all the other missing pieces, too!

[identity profile] puzzle-dust.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Love that last panel! I'm so glad you realised this story as a strip, it works so well. (btw I really like how you draw Austria) ^-^
