Would you like to see Hetalia licensed?

Funimation is conducting a poll right now asking fans what shows they would purchase and recommend to friends if licensed. Hetalia is on both lists. Vote now!

Ohh, okay! I get what you're saying.

I was quite amazed to see a show with BL tones on Sci-Fi (Descendants of Darkness) a while back, but I couldn't take it seriously because the dubbing kept making me LOL. Can't say if there was any editing or not, I only watched two or three episodes.

In anycase, I'd hope to God there's no editing out stuff from Hetalia. The episodes are short enough as they are. XD

:)

Oh wow, Sci-Fi aired Yami no Matsui?! :o I'm surprised! I guess they figured they had more leeway with that audience, and it does tend to trend higher in age.

Hahaha, I have only heard about two lines of the English intro, but I made a "bzuh" face and started laughing. XD I don't know if the English is edited either in that one--I've only seen the Japanese. I can't even imagine how they would have handled Muraki's voice in English. *laughs*

Me too!! I joked to someone that Hetalia was too short to edit, then recanted and said, "Watch, they'll make them into 1 minute and 30 second episodes." XDDD Hopefully as you've noted, the content is not something they'd ever even try to air on TV, and as such, everything would be safe and keep a low profile. I am happy for the thriving fandom we have, but am reticient to see what a stateside release could do to it.

I really hope it goes directly to DVD with subs, and that such a release would keep it out of the warpath of mainstream because I am worried it could touch off nerves if the wrong people found it. I remember the huge controversy over the Enola Gay exhibit in DC a few years back when the narrative of the exhibit conflicted with what veterans felt was appropriate and respectable.

Well, their interest in Hetalia reminds me of their interest in Ouran High School Host Club, which I saw as they KNEW it had fans and figured they could count on the fansub fans to make it profitable. At least I see no other reason for releasing a 26 episode series straight to two DVD boxsets if no one knew about the series. I don't think it would have sold well without already having fans (but I could be wrong).

I think that they're even considering licensing an anime with 5 minute episodes, shows that they've taken notice of the current fandom. The poll is probably just to make sure they can count on the current fans to purchase it. Make sure it that would be profitable.

My guess from that would be that they would, like Ouran, release (at least) half the series right to DVD, include a dub and sub, and leave the rest up to the current fans to promote the series to unfamiliars. That's just my guess anyways. =x=;;

Ahhh, that could very well be. They are looking for already established markets, and I think they would have to be in the case of the five minute episodes of Hetalia. It would be difficult to market the show without someone having a taste of a full episode.

*nods* Yeah, I agree. That sounds very probable as a strategy should they pick it up. Word of mouth and recommendations are far reaching if they happen often enough.
