[Fanart] Taking Offense

Title: Taking Offense
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen
Characters: Russia and US
Rating: PG
Warnings: Violent behavior, cheeseburger falling apart, sexy Slavic scowl
Summary: Russia finally does what every nation has probably wanted to do at least once--he socks the US in the face.
Artist's Note: I don't really draw in the anime/manga style very much, so I've decided to switch back to my original style (more or less) for this picture. Hope that's all right. ^_^

OH GOD, THE BURGER! D: NOOO! That's a waste of lettuce and steroid cow, damn it!

[identity profile] warpedbeing.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell no. I'd take a big chunck out of the hamburger and use it as a mouth guard. NO WASTING FOR ME. >8[

[identity profile] warpedbeing.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mah job~

[identity profile] uber-burger.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Screw capitalism and democracy!!!! Clearly America is the bad guy.

On a serious note, I really like your style! Purely animu/manga styles can be tiresome sometimes.

[identity profile] uber-burger.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha well, no argument about that here. But what nation isn't pushy?
Anyway ignore me I just like to be contrary.

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
My gleeful cackling is totally the wrong reaction, isn't it? I should rather be searching for a convenient bomb shelter if this ever happens. Well, I can't help it, this picture causes an uncontrollable surge of glee in me. (Plus, never has this icon been more appropriate.)
I like Russia's sexy slavic scowl and the lovely dynamic ounch. The hair and the fur on Russia's boots looks wonderfully soft. Also, yay for different shades of blond! And the details are really nice - is that a vodka bottle stowed away in Russia's coat? The fate of the cheeseburger fills me with compassion and inspiration (http://img54.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ruxusavsfinally2lj5.gif ).
Your style definitely looks best on Hetalia characters! After all, the point of fanart is to show the original from a new, different side, isn't it?

Just butting in to say you're both full of win. XD

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, thanks!

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have MAD LOVE for it too!

Aw, thank you! I think it's best to draw what feels natural to you, though. Now that I know they're anatomically possible, I'm in the process of reevaluating my views on long arms.
The bottle's not that easy to spot due to lack of a prominent pocket. Thanks to that, it is now canon for me that Ivan always wears holsters for vodka bottles underneath his coat. One for vodka on the right side, one for beer on the left side. When it's time to brawl, they double as weapons.

Hey, wow! These lines do look less harsh! I think colouring them would produce an even softer result, though.

By the way, a Nations Getting Punched In The Face series would be freaking awesome.

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Right, I totally forgot all about inside pockets! I haven't had any for a long time now. I probably won't get to drawing the holsters as soon as I'l like to (that is, right now), though, since the kink meme has come up with the most amazing Poland/Lithuania prompt, and then I also want to finish the Russia/France series, and there's a Russia/USA comic I've got all planned out... and I've also got to write things for school.

And I also really want to draw Poland punching Russia now. He'd have to jump as if he were playing basketball.
I wonder who Poland should get punched by? Lithuania, probably. Who'd ever want to punch Lithuania in the face, though?..

But how is colouring lines hard? You just put huge blobs of paint in the general vicinity of the line, and voila - it doesn't need precision or anything...?

[identity profile] autriemeil.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Poland did, in 1920. Although he claimed it was an accident (argh! Not only I started to call Poland a "he" instead of a "she", I also started to joke about history in such a way... I got Hetarised!)
Anyway, I'm speaking about this little monster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Central_Lithuania
Still I want to say some in some sources it's said Piłsudski wasn't planning to "take" Vilna region untill the Soviet-Lithuanian Peace Treaty (yeah, I hate when my country is a bastard so I'm finding excuses)
Actually, I wondered on making a fancomic about it, but then, I'm not sure if it would be a good idea... (I'd have issues with pulling any crack out of it)

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for this fascinating information! (As is probably apparent from my username, I am very inappropriately interested in Polish/Lithuanian history.)
I'd be very interested in seeing any sort of fanwork regarding this conflict, but I totally understand how you'd have issues with it. Well, at least in canon, your country has a history of being a bastard in absolutely adorable ways, so there's lots of inspiration available. (Mine, on the other hand, has a personality utterly unsuited to bastardly acts...)
Haha, yes, I got Hetalized too. Can't watch international sports competitions with a pure mind anymore.

[identity profile] autriemeil.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha... Yeah, he's all like that in Hetalia... I'd hate him for that if only I hadn't already loved him even before reading.
And what I've meant with the issues is that it would be a total angbox. It's all because Liet is such a sweetheart! I'm unable make fun of people being mean to him!
So I switched to PolandxHungary crackcomicstrip XD

And hmm... Haven't watched any sports events since finding Hetalia... Should I be scared?

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
PolandxHungary, seriously? It's my new ship since yesterday, when I learned that "Polak, Węgier, dwa bratanki, i do szabli, i do szklanki"... that sounds like the perfect relationship xD

I can totally understand how it'd be hard to make fun of people being mean to Lithuania. Actually the only reason I can ship Poland/Lithuania (which is all about Poland being mean to Lithuania, far as I can see) is that I strongly believe that Lithuania can deal with Poland. Uh, somehow. Through the magic of his strength of character, perhaps?.. ^^;;; So when it's Poland being mean, Lithuania is more-or-less okay with it.

Um, don't know if you should be scared. It's little things, like my Feliks-loving heart skipping a beat upon hearing that Polish fans were extremely rude to the Russian football team when it played in Poland (during the Georgian war).

[identity profile] little-lady-d.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
ooh, you could try having a separate layer for the line-colors, using linear dodge, and then merging them? *... isn't lj-stalking*

[identity profile] little-lady-d.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
oh, shucks, it's not introduced until 7.0. but it's a layer style -- if you have black lines on white underneath it, whatever's in that layer will only show up in those lines.

[identity profile] little-lady-d.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
*plays with photoshop* but wait, it looks like 'screen' can do the same thing -- !

[identity profile] little-lady-d.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
that's weird. try it again, when you have the chance? or just play with lots of different blending modes.

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh yeah, Belarus. Totally forgot about that possibility.
Perhaps Ukraine could do it instead?

... so your "Screen" option p-paints on the white bits too?! What the hell, Photoshop!!
Well, in Gimp the Screen option leaves the white bits alone, so that's the only thing I can suggest.
Man, that Photoshop. What the hell. *drifts off, muttering incredulously*

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, don't remind me, I want to draw them too (being friendly. Not slashy. No incestuous shipping for me. Even if it is as tempting as Ukraine/Belorus would be.), but still have too many other projects.

Well, I should hope that it doesn't happen in newer versions. What does this 6.0 Screen do anyway? (Er, this is just idle curiosity. You shouldn't answer if you don't feel like it.)

(I've re-read the Russia/Canada fic today. It's such a good way to improve my mood, I think I'll bookmark it for future quick access.)

[identity profile] polandlithuania.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I just don't think about how they'd work out. Well, okay, marriage is personal union, that's simple - but the rest of it... ^^;

Ah yes, that sounds like what it ought to do. At least it isn't something completely different, that would've been too weird.

I'll remember to thank her too! I hope you weren't bothered by the ridiculous essay I left.

[identity profile] sushigal007.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, that's AWESOME!

[identity profile] autriemeil.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say they look good in your style.

[identity profile] t3nsa1.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Is cackling happily bad... *sigh* I really need to move to Canada. He's adorably cute.

[identity profile] t3nsa1.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so very far away from the border! The only way to be farther is to be in Florida
