America's adorable! But... I've lived in or visited 42 of the fifty states, and I've never even heard of deep fried butter. I wonder where he got that?
Now, in Scotland, I saw deep fried Mars bars for sale...
My first thought was that he might have misread the word "batter" somewhere (especially since it would be almost impossible to fry butter - it would melt). My second thought was that it might be hyperbole for the sake of the joke.
I've read that you can buy it at the Iowa State Fair, but I don't understand why anyone would want to eat it. There are three categories of fair food: (deep) fried, wrapped in bacon, and on a stick. Some people must spend time thinking of the weirdest things to fry (cheesecake, Coke, etc), and the most unhealthy combinations (like doughnut burgers).
That's what came up in google image search. I've heard of it, but never knew how it's possible to deep fry butter because it could melt :/ On a side note, the guy in green shirt and blue cap in the photo reminds me of the guy standing next to America in the last panel of this comic
Thank you very much for all the updates, Cass. My pc has often troubles of connection, and tumblr is very hard to browse from my mobile... LJ makes anything so easier! >w<
I searched by Google and I found out that this usage of Deep-Fried Stick of Butter (On a stick) is quite recent tradition even in Iowa, here the article I read. I think this could be the reason why it is not so well-known.
But it is one of the main characteristics of Al to eat things that none else would be able to, so I think Hima didn't choose it randomly. Harder for me is to understand how Feli could think about eating solid fat: I know that various types are used for cooking or mixed to other ingredients (in minimal amounts), sometimes butter is used instead of oil for frying (other foods, however), so are margarine and lard. But if I think about same hypercaloric food Italians would eat in its pure from, that is lardo (eventually di colonnata)! I will need to make some deeper research, could be there some food that caught his attention in Germany? I usually prefer the taste of South Tyrol butter than the average of Italian ones... ^///^

I think it might be because his head looks rounder than usual.
