[Scanlation] Magic Words For Denmark-san

This is how battles on the ice usually turn out, so in general it's best not to risk it, but when they succeed it's pretty cool. Upon seeing the Swedish army marching towards them on the ice, it seems that the Danish army promptly lost their will to fight. By the way, Sweden was in a terrible mood because Russia had his arm around Finland's shoulders at the time.
The manga kind of gives the impression that Norway is completely disinterested in Denmark, but they were actually working quite well together at the time and I think it was pretty nice.
Many years later, after Norway had been oppressed by the more powerful country, he and Denmark drifted apart. When Norway entered a union with Sweden, Denmark sent him a letter or something in which he threw a childish tantrum and cut their ties, after which the goodwill towards Norway seemed strangely decreased, but that's another story.

Things got a little better for him later, thanks to Denmark.

That's so beautiful to see the Nordics: here Sverige is creepier than usual, also a badass when walking on the ice.

Second, uh Commonweath-Swedish war of 1655-60 has really strange image in Hetalia. It was actually a huge thing, like Sweden invided and destroyed almost half of huge country and after many battles was kicked out. It was actually even worse for Poland that everything that happened in WWII and still we have more national treasures in Sweden than in our place since they were taking everything valuable from attacked cities(including building pieces lol).

Still, sad Poland are much more accurate than "let's no fight" Sweden from that old Tannenberg battle strip ;)

Hima just keeps getting better at drawing and weaving history into the manga.
Thank you for translating; I was really anticipating this one. :)

I think one of the common criticisms of Hetalia is 'well, the manga doesn't quite portray it right/misleads the viewer' when it comes to historical events. Hima's basically said here that the manga blends character dispositions with historical events, which may initially appear to create a conflicting depiction (like here; Norway's character in Hetalia is kind of blunt yet elusive with Denmark, but "but they were actually working quite well together").

Not wanting to look uncool in front of Norway -- Denmark, bro, your priorities need some re-examining. ;)

There definitely was tension throughout this strip, more on the serious side. What really kicks it is Sweden. He does not speak one word as the ice cracks around his feet and just goes straight to Denmark, which terrifies me so much (and he's one of my favorite characters!). I don't know much about what happened to the Nordic countries during this time period to be honest, but from what it sounds like, it was pretty serious.

I love it! Thank you so much for working on this translation!
If I may ask, what's the story behind the term Norway uses for Denmark, 'anko'?

Has this been tagged with Netherlands? I found the blog post and scanlations around Tumblr and LJ but everyone seems to be forgetting him.

I love everything about this strip and it was cool that Hima even commented that the characters and the manga in general don't always portrays things 100% accurate! I know it's kind of obvious, but since there's both people that takes everything serious while others don't like Hetalia because "it's not historically accurate", it's good to have a remind from the author stating that.

I always think that Norway is Denmark's unimpressed girlfriend. And this strip pretty much solidified that impression. Not that I'm complaining. (DenNor fangirl)
