Cosplay armor advice?

I want to make the armor for my fem!Teutonic Prussia cosplay, and I was wondering if anyone on here had any advice as too what to make it out of. It would have to be relatively cheap materials and something I can easily put on once it's all put together. I was thinking craft foam maybe, but maybe someone knows something better I could use instead?

This reminded me of the time I had to make a breast plate and I used to tutorial. It's pretty awesome. I don't think its too expensive to make.

I actually have a similar situation, I need to make armor for a Germania cosplay, but I'm not sure how to do it or what material to use. I can't tell what the armor is even supposed to be made of, leather or metal. XD
