Fic recs recommendations
So I'm looking for fics recs, not as much for a specific pairing but for fics that are really good, epic, well written, with super good character development, etc.
I don't really mind the pairing (yaoi, yuri, het is fine) so I'm open to any pairing including crack pairings or strange pairings.
The only think I would like to avoid is genderbent fics where only one of the characters is genderbent.
So, any recommendations?

October Twenty Fourth (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5532690/1/October_Twenty_Fourth) - a human!AU in which Prussia is in the hospital with a terminal illness and Germany visits him every day. This is angsty as hell, so don't read it if you're looking for something happy. Includes some incest.
Out of the Fire, into the Frying Pan (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6995475/1/Out_of_the_Fire_into_the_Frying_Pan) - a human!AU in which Prussia is kidnapped and abused by Russia for eight years before he finally escapes and tries to rebuild his life. I'm not usually a fan of stories like this because abuse is so often handled terribly in fics and I like Russia, but this story is amazing. The way trauma and the struggle to heal and live a normal life are portrayed is fantastic.This will eventually become a polyamorous relationship between Prussia, Austria and Hungary. The story deals heavily with mental, physical and sexual abuse, so it's not very light reading. It's also not finished and hasn't been updated in a while.
The Road Not Taken (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6791743/1/The_Road_Not_Taken) - a human!AU in which America is a fighter pilot in WWII and crashes in Germany, after which he's taken in and looked after by Germany, an SS officer. I avoided this story for a long time because WWII stories are a recipe for disaster in this fandom, so I was very pleasently surprised when I finally gave it a chance. The characters are very real and human, and I love the relationship that America and Germany eventually develop. Not finished yet.
Till Death Do Us Part (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6735486/1/Till_Death_Do_Us_Part) - a human!AU in which France and England are in a relationship, but France dies in a car accident. The powers that be can't decide if he should go to heaven or hell, so they give him the chance to earn his afterlife. He has to return to Earth and prove that his and England's love was real by winning him over again - in the body of America, England's ex. This is a very touching and funny story, and one of my favourite human!AUs in the fandom. Not finished yet.
Wheel of Fortune (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5546752/1/Wheel_of_Fortune) - a human!AU taking place in 18th century Italy and revolving around Romano's struggles to improve his life and come to terms with himself and the people in his life. Features an ensemble cast and apart from some light Spain/Belgium, there hasn't been much romance yet. Not finished yet.
Maybe You're a Sinner (http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/10530.html?thread=18061090#t18061090) - various characters are trying to ignore the atrocities that they've commited in the course of history. The story deals with several real life horrors and war crimes and has descriptions of violence and torture.
Night Like This (http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/17942.html?thread=65217046#t65217046) this a sequel to a short story called Between the Spaces (http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/17942.html?thread=58610454#t58610454) They create an AU with the premise that the nations don't know about each other and are all resigned to a lonely eternity of watching everyone around them grow old and die. Germany and England discover each other by accident around the time of the first World War and decide to go on a quest to find others like them. This is probably my favourite story in the fandom. The development of the friendship and eventual relationship between Germany and England is wonderful, and the historical details and especially the rise of fascism in Europe create an intriguing and heart-breaking premise for the story. Not finished yet.
