London Olympics

Hello everyone

I was just wondering, as the Olympics are bascially tomorrow for me, is there any place to discuss Hetalia and the Olympics together? Like a running hetalia sports community or something?

Other than that, another quick question(s)~

How do you think the hetalia characters feel about the olympics in general, and/or this London 2012 one? :)
Also, their favourite sport to play/watch!

That's the sports community but I don't think they're very active nowadays

I haven't seen any place to discuss it together, sorry.

Hetalia-wise? I think they like the Olympics. Not because it's like another huge world meeting, but because they can compete against each other in a friendly manner, ya know?
I don't really know what country would like what sport (America would probably be upset since there's no American football or baseball). The European countries especially would like football. I think England would like archery and Canada to hockey. Korea would like taekwondo, and I think Spain and France would both like fencing (France would also like cycling). Italy bros football and swimming, Japan judo... America I think would like boxing and/or track and field type of sports and maybe the same for Russia. Hungary would like wrestling... Liechtenstein gymnastics. Ah, but I'm only going for what I think the Hetalia characters would like, not necessarily the actual country. Like I said before, I think Alfred would like boxing and/or track and field type of sports, but for the country I would say swimming or other water sports.

Which is ironic, considering how he almost drowned once...
He should get lessons from Michael Phelps or something, haha.

According to Hima America swims so fast that he's 'like a shark,' so I think he's good. XD

Oh, yeah. Prussia. XD

I imagine Taiwan would get annoyed that she isn't allowed her name, flag or national anthem in the Olympics.

Yeah, definitely. :/

I was wondering the same thing. I'd sure like to geek out with fellow hetalia fans. I'm hoping to see some cool fanart this year, or even an official comic strip or something.

As for each characters's favorite sport, I'm going to go with the national sports for each country. However, not every country's national sport is featured in the Olympics.

I'll look around and see if I can find a community or a forum, something like that.

On kind of a side note, if there was a video game for this, like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, but with Hetalia characters- I would flip out. I know it'll never happen, but seriously, that would be cool.

I wish I saw this earlier but Hetalia Fandomly (http://hetaliafandomly.livejournal.com/) was spazzing about the opening ceremony. I don't know if they're going to discuss the rest of the Olympics

I've kind of grown out of fangirling Hetalia when I watch international events like this, I enjoy them for the events themselves. That said sometimes hilarious things do happen. And I'd like to know everyone's reactions to the opening ceremonies. Because James Bond and "Queen Elizabeth" parachuting into the stadium? That was important.

...I enjoy them for both? I've ALWAYS watched the Olympics (to the point of being more than mildly obsessed with multiple athletes growing up), so that's nothing new, but it is fun to see my favorite characters 'incorporated' into something I already enjoyed. And tbh I think the Olympics are pretty good for that, because they are intended to be fun and a celebration, as opposed to being too serious to joke about like a lot of other events people fandom-ize.

All I meant by that is that I used to do it but don't anymore. It wasn't even an active choice. I just don't find myself connecting Hetalia to these things all that often anymore, personally. I don't think there's anything wrong with it (so long as you aren't doing it in a horribly inappropriate place, like say sports forums or in comments to news articles). It's just something I've moved on from. It was fun to do in the past, though.

Maybe "grown out of" was the wrong way to put it since a lot of people take that with negative connotations, but I couldn't think of a better way to word it at the time.

No it's totally fine! I HOPE no APH fans are posting comments on articles/videos/etc. Yeah I definitely tend to take 'grown out' as a term meaning that one has matured past it, which did kind of make me side-eye.
