One fiction is Poland/Lithuania in which one of them is transported from their empire days somehow and must struggle with modern life and being a modern country without an empire.

And one in which the world finds out about the nation personifications and chaos ensues.

The first, I believe, is by daegaer and can be found on her journal -- she wrote one where Lithuania is magically transported from the past when he was with Poland to the present.
